lingham
I, like others missed the opportunity to meet Leslie recently and I was going to go but just couldnt financially justify it and now RIP Leslie, Just goes to show if someone is a Hollywood legend and attending at a show and you want to meet them - MAKE SURE YOU GO and think of the costs afterwards as it could be your last chance! Still kicking myself to this day I didnt go....

pnuthall
Pat Morita is the one I kick myself about - I was at that show, I saw him, but opted not to meet him because I assumed there would be another chance. There have been others who have been due to attend, but sadly passed away before the show - like Frank Gorshin, who I was really looking forward to meeting. Others I have suggested on here that have gone before anything could be done to get them over (eg. Robert Culp). The bottom line really is: if you have the chance then take it with both hands!! zebredy
There is no one on this earth that I would want to see that badly.. I mean there are a few people that I have missed seeing over the years (some down to them passing on before I had my first chance in the UK to see them) but seriously come on guys. I don't think there is anyone in this world I would go into debt for (well except my hubby and me if we desperately needed to in order to pay a bill, which fingers crossed will never ever happen) "Think of the costs afterwards"? WTH All I can say is each to there own... No one will ever be that important for me that I would think about spending my last pennies for the month on them... Lizzy
Yeah, each to their own- and if collecting autos/meeting people is your main hobby, then yes it is a big blow to have a person die and you know there is always going to be that gap or that missed opportunity. I think your post was a little harsh... I missed out on James Doohan once as I was young, with my Mum and the queue was too long and I wasn't allowed to wait in it. I stood by and got a wave from him though, and I don't really think people were getting too much of a chat anyway. Majel Barrett I met at MK a while back... Andy Hallett is one I regret. He was a con regular and I missed him as I was at uni at the time and on limited funds and it was a con where I could easily have met half the guests! But of course, no one was to know he'd die so young For me, it was a case of £15 that wouldn't have made that much difference looking back at it now. I can see if you're not planning on doing the con at all, travel etc is a lot to spend, but at least now-a-days there is the pre-order service! Though that's not much help with photoshoots! JacknDaniel
I agree that if there is someone you really want to meet, grab the opportunity while you can. I have thought like that for quite a long time, but especially in the last couple of years, and thanks to that thinking, i've managed to meet a heck of a lot of people that I wouldnt have if I hadn't gone to that extra little bit of effort. Yeah there have been a few months when i've been left a bit short of cash, and i've endured some very long coach trips, gone about 48 hours without sleep on a couple of occasions, but right here right now, i'm extremely glad I did, as the memory of those things fades and what I do remember is getting to meet some people i've admired all my life. The one thing you should never do when you grow old is think 'i wish i'd done that'.
TurkFox
There have been a few times I've had to make choices and not meet people or attend certain events because of money - mainly on occasions when it was either attend the event or starve, because money has been tight. But I think for my hero, Greg Ellis, I'd max out both credits cards to be at an event he was signing at - after 17 years, I think it's about time I met him Edited December 10, 2010 by TurkFox

GoldenGreen
I was just thinking about this the other day when I heard the sad passing of another actor and it got me thinking about all the great ones that I had met that were sadly no longer with us. I think the one that affected me the most was the untimely passing of Andy Hallett from Angel , far too young to go and he was such a lovely guy. I was fortunate I did get the chance to meet him at a Convention. I was looking back at my photos with guests and realised how many now had sadly passed away that I fortunately had had the chance to meet. Kevin McCarthy Milvina Dean Norman Wisdom Corey Haim Pat Morita David Carradine Zena Marshall Ingrid Pitt Michael Sheard Peter Graves So I guess it just goes to show, meet them while you get the chance. KingRichard76
This reminds me of how I felt last week at Trafalgar Square, the weather was typical British weather, my thickest jumper was slowly drying off and I was wondering if camping out was going to be worth it, I then thought nostalgically of 2005 and being in Leicester Square and hours away from meeting George Lucas. - Last week, rather than think, oh well, it was nice a good experience I'll go home now. I stayed and managed the unbelievable task of getting Alan Rickman to Sign my Harry Potter DVD and getting J.K Rowling on it as well. - 2005 I stayed and got George Lucas's Autograph. Point is, I dont know if I'll ever have such a chance again... And to be fair it was worth camping out for a number of days just to get Rickman on something he would normally flatly refuse to sign. Its all about grabbing the moment whilst you can, because you never know if or when the situation will arise again. N.B. I realise this topic is about Actors that have departed but felt this would be okay to say.
SlippDigby
...Majel Barrett I met at MK a while back... Andy Hallett... I just yesterday found the my recording of that event at MK. I could have really kicked myself too!! But, as the thread shows regarding other folk's similar experiences...we were on a really tight budget for a couple of years back then so we just could not meet every one we wanted to. And too late now! Such a shame. Still, we more tahn made up for it at this years SM prime events...CM and LF&CC. Thank you SM.

SlippDigby
I would've been kicking myself over Leslie Nielsen, and though we did not actually meet him, we did pre-order his auto from the online system, so we did actually get it. Would have still loved to have met him as he starred in FORBIDDEN PLANET probably one of the best, certainly one of the most iconic, SF movies ever made and a clear fore-runner to STAR TREK...another favourite of mine. I've got some pre-digital camera ones from some earlier shows I went to around somewhere that I must find and scan and add to the collection. Not even sure exactly what's on them. Gradually putting other stuff on too. Don't think I've met anyone else who's no longer with us though.
