important things you should know about this years event

Recommended Posts

from what I remember ( and I could be wrong) there is usually only one queue for this event. Do you plan to have a special queue for the main guest on each day to allow people to get their 'virtual tickets' for an autograph without a mad rush when the doors open with no one knowing where to head to for the virtual ticket?

I seriously doubt it. "Main guest" is really down to personal choice, so they would need several entry queues to cater for all guest then.

well it worked quite well at MK when there were a few hundred people queing for a virtual ticket for Alex Kingstons' autograph -- just not sure if they have the room at this venue to cope as well with the number of people that will probably be queuing. No point having a queue if it's a ' free- for - all' when the doors open

As a lot of people have said, I hope that the big names are spread to Saturday aswell as Sunday as a lot of people have no choice but to leave on Saturday evening. It would be unfair to restrict such big names to Sunday only when Saturday is probably going to the most attended day.

Other than that, the line up is amazing and I am looking forward to attending for the first time. Showmasters have done a great job in securing these guests, just keep them coming and think about scheduling them for Saturday aswell as Sunday please.

I stand corrected. It just surprises me, that they did that for the reason I wrote and also because I would think, that unless said main guest is completely isolated from the rest of the venue, then what is to stop people from entering the shorter queue and gain earlyer access to another popular guest or just the venue in general.

I'm not sure as there is only one entrance at EC2 unlike at MK. There certainly will not be a 'free for all'. Running is prohibited for a start. The queue will be guided in by crew.

The two queues at MK went in separate entrances and were kept apart by the crew. As there is only one entrance at EC I'm not sure if that is an option. Especially as there are two queue anyway, pre-paid and pay on the day.

It's not an option, there is just not enough (large) doors for it. There's a couple of smaller side entrances, but most go through backstage areas. Using those would be quite dangerous.

I was unsure if it would be possible to have an extra queue, I have only been a couple of times to this venue but have never seen any queue escorted anywhere. When I visited it was a case of show your ticket to get inside and then left to find the signing desks at the back with no indication of which where people would be signing, so it did take us time to find the virtual tickets for the people we wanted to see.. I really hope something can be sorted to make getting there early worth the effort as I think it could be manic.

To be fair to SM, its 99% (if not 100% of the time) up to the guests what day they do. SM will ask but its down to what days the guests want to/can do.

For example, Alex Kingston has a matinee of her play on the saturday, and so can only do sunday. Other guests, for whatever personal or professional reasons, can only do the saturday (Derek Jacobi for example)

SM will ALWAYS try and get a guest for as long as they can, its just not up to them unfortunatley.

They are slaves to a guests pre-arranged work, upcoming work or personal preference :P

I think Jason meant currently Saturday only guests doing Sunday as well.
I have to admit that I read that as new additional guests for the Sunday only.

So did I as at present there are still about 10 more guests on Saturday than there are on Sunday. I think Jason just wants Sunday to be as busy as Saturday.

Thanks Too Tall, I fully agree that you need both days to be busy. Just putting it out there that there are a lot of saturday only attendees who are happy and keen to spend at the event and Sunday seems to be a day of travelling home for quite a few of us with a long way to go, so the more guests who do both days, the more we can pitch in. I always rip through about £1500 at big cons and this would increase with more guests added. As I've said before, if you're bringing, I'm buying!

Thanks for all youre doing, this is going to be a fantastic show.

Just look for the large posters above the signing tables. It is very rare that guests have their own signing area which is blocked off - I assume it could happen for Karen and Alex this year. But before it's only happened three or four times with William Shatner, Mike Tyson and Elijah Wood I think.

The main guests will always be at the back of the hall. There's smaller signing areas at the sides near the entrance, but those are usually for the dedicated areas like Star Wars guests.

This is looking excellent. I think you need to rent even more space though SM, it's going to be packed!!!

From the OP:

8 this years event is going to be 25% bigger than ever before , we have had to take more space this year as

we have some much going on over the weekend , and we know you are going to love it

They have it covered

At least at this venue I believe there isn't a hotel in the building. Rather disappointed to hear that somebody staying at the stadium in MK turned up an hour and a half after me but got a ticket 50 better that me for Alex Kingston!

Yeah I know they took more space but will it be enough? Last year was a bit 'pushy' in areas and there's going to be even more attendees judging by everything that's happening this year! Look like the extra space has already been taken up, lol! :(

Oh my God this is fab so far, more guests would be awesome but as someone else has mentioned Sunday is the day for travelling home so I hope they're big but not too big so that it gives me time to get autos, photos, and then my 6pm train home!!!!

I really must make a start on booking photoshoots now, god bless my bank account :D

Yeah, pleeeeeease don't put any more guests exclusively on the Sunday if you can help it. I've had to forego staying over to have more cash for the event so I'll be gutted if I miss anyone.

Selfish I know, but I'm sure there are others in the same boat.

We want to give our money to YOU, not to a hotel!

I'm not a die-hard Collectormania attendee (this'll be my third), but I regularly keep tabs on ALL Collectormanias and like a music festival parting with your hard earned cash depends on the line-up and this line-up looks one of the best I've ever seen. The promoters/bookers have acquired some spectacular guests, ones that'll get both die-hards and casual punters through the doors. From a personal perspective the additions of Sir Derek Jacobi (big Cadfael fan) and Clive Barker (big Nightbreed fan) has made this as an exciting prospect to me as Bruce Campbell being announced in Manchester a few years back.

So enough sucking-up, just want to say props to you all – you know who you are!
