I agree that the casino wasnt part of the victorian theme, just two themes on one night really.

But the bag thing. All you HAVE to have with you is your pass, your autograph and photoshoot checklists and the photos provided (and even those are up to you)

ANYTHING else you carry around is your choice. M.E arnt making you carry a bag full of heavy things or a big painting to get signed or anything more than what I stated above.

M.E didnt say there was a bag room, and so it was your choice as to whether you carry more than you actually NEED to get into the event and get the autographs/photoshoots.

A bag room would help some people, but as M.E have stated, people abused it last time and a lot of people dont want to leave their bags in a random room that anyone can access (me included). And for those two reasons they didnt have one. Stop demonising M.E and other attendees for little things that annoyed you.

Wow that's quite the list of complaints!

WHOAH just a minute here...why the heck are you jumping all over me for MY opinions...you don't have to like them and they aint being too picky ok. Firstly i don't really care whether it's named a drinks reception or blooming cocktail party...the bar could be opened easy as that...and simple as that. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO DISLIKE WINE...secondly if you read the rules of the hotel you would see you ain't allowed to bring outside foods and drinks into and lastly i payed for a gold pass which was blooming expensive and yet seemed to offer less than last tme so why should i have to pay for a drink becase it aint avaliable...thank god for the free coca cola is all i can say.

There WAS a bar open, it just happened to be slightly further away than the one in the actual drinks reception. No one is asking you to bring in 'outside food or drink' just to buy it at the other bar and then mosey on back to the drinks reception afterward, I know a fair few people who did this.

The gold pass prices are the same for every event this year, and yet no one else has complained that "why should i have to pay for a drink becase it aint avaliable" - the fact is that you get some wine and nibbles for free, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that ME should provide you with the drink that you specifically like purely because you bought a gold pass.

There is a bar open and serving a wide variety of drinks, if that is what you wish I don't understand why you can't go there and get your drinks before the reception starts.

If SM or ME whatever they get called did a poll to see what drinks people would like avaliable they would possibly save a hell of alot of money on providing stuff that don't get drunk......it was just like the cocktails that were created....only 2..not 4 i might have...just different names....the barman on the sunday night was complaining to me how so much of it is a waste because no-one was drinking it....he said he literally had jugs upon jugs to get rid of somehow and it was such a waste of the spirits used...i rest my case...heres what i'll say...your all right and i'm wrong for having an opinion..its clearly what you want to hear.

Luckily a obsevent crew member came to my rescue and moved them. i now nolonger look like a gummi bear.

Although when i was in one of the photo queues, myself, my brother and 2 ladies standing behind us were very shocked to hear one lady SWEAR at her child to be quiet. I don't know what other people in the queue must of thought either !

I heard this as well and you are right there was silence after.

I wish I had spoken to someone about not being able to sit in the Gold pass seat but alas I didn't - next time!

Oh one thing I forgot earlier. Whoever made the decision to have rounded corners on the passes is a star! I couldn't even count the number of times I cut or scratched myself on the corners of mine last year, this time not a single scratch! Thank you so much!

At the Twilight event the wine ran out before the end of the reception. At this event, I believe there was one bottle of Rose left over, and some red wine. But not much. So I don't know why you would think that SM/ME are providing stuff that doesn't get drunk, clearly it does. And clearly since it gets used they are not wasting their money as you have suggested.

The cocktails are created by the hotel bar staff and not ME, this is a completely different matter. And I always think they taste lovely, and tend to see plenty of people walking around with them.

I'm not saying you are wrong to want to drink something else, merely that you are complaining on this forum asking for SM/ME to fix something that there are solutions to. SM/ME provide free wine and various other juices for during the reception and yes, it does get consumed. There was a separate bar open down the corridor to get other drinks from if you wished to. And your complaint about the cocktails is irrelevant as they were made by the hotel.

EDIT: a note about the cocktails - while there were only 2 made specifically for the event, the hotel do offer all the usual cocktails one would expect to get, so just because you don't like the 'special' cocktails doesn't mean that there aren't other regular ones for you to have! I know my friend at the Twilight event was drinking loads of Woo Woo because thats her favourite cocktail. And it wasn't one of the 'specials' made up for the event.

WHOAH just a minute here...why the heck are you jumping all over me for MY opinions...you don't have to like them and they aint being too picky ok.

Because it's a relatively free atmosphere here, and people are free to disagree with the opinions of others if they wish, so long as they are relatively polite about it. You see seem to be suggesting that you should be free to voice your opinions but that nobody should be allowed to disagree with them? Many words spring to mind at that, but "fair" ain't one of them...

The bar in the reception room could be opened, but no doubt the hotel would charge for the facility, being as how the hotel is a money-making concern. Given that most people at the reception will be quaffing the free wine and soft drinks, the barman will not be selling enough drinks for the profit on those to cover the overheads, so that'll be another charge for the event to bear. Seems pointless to me. If you don't like the free drinks, it's hardly beyond the wit of man or woman to slip out to the other hotel bar and purchase something that you do like, is it? You're not locked in the room, are you? Just because you don't like the drinks at the reception, does not mean that you should automatically have a free replacement. Where will it end? "Actually I don't like guest X really, so please arrange me a free autograph and photoshoot and talk with somebody else." Sure, there's room for the organisers to re-consider what drinks they do serve, and perhaps asjust accordingly, but given the costs that the hotel is likely to levy, I'll doubt you'll get a full service bar in there.

As for the bag room...well me and my mates thought it was handy to have, some of us don't really like having to carry a bag round and round and round all morning and afternoon....even though we all sttayed in the actual hotel..you still have to carry stuff around.

You seem to be in a minority on this one - I've eseen nothing but praise fro the new system (and a few people denigrating the old one). You seem to be the only one objecting. And if you're staying in the hotel it's hardly like it's much longer to go back to your room.

And lastly if they did really listen to what attendees have to say why then when a large majoirty said they would prefer a logo on the tshirts to be on the front was it yet again on the back....sorry no excuse for it...it ain't no price difference from front to back.

You really should consider a career as a spin doctor. Having re-read the feedback thread on the The Hub, and then checked the results produced by searches for "logo", "tshirt", "t shirt" and "t-shirt", I can reveal that the "large majoirty"(sic) that you claim consists of yourself and two other people that agreed with you. I guess that in the context that nobody actually disagreed with you and lobbied for it to remain on the back then 3-0 is an arguably significant result, but 3 out of 100 or 150 people who got a T-shirt or 3 out of however many at the event, or indeed 3 out of any number bigger than 5 does not constitute a large majority. The thing is, the bit about the logo on the back being obscured by long hair is not an unreasonable point (although not an unanswerable one), but you do tend to rather undermine your position by over-egging your case and then being rather sensitive (IMHO) when people disagree with you.

I have had my rant and clearly some people on here don't like people with opinions.

No, we love opinions, and we love debating them. It does rather seem, however, that you don't like people who disagree with your opinions.

Ahh! you know, I was wondering how I had never seen or heard anything about the logo before now, I had a quick flick through past threads looking to see if it had bee mentioned and came up blank, I never even thought of doing a search! Lol! Good thinking!

I personally had never heard of this before, so it was news to me that people actually cared about the logo placement. I have long-hair but it doesn't bother me one lick where the logo is, since it is an event name, and date - which always tends to on the back when you get event T-shirts (concerts list their dates on the back, etc.) so I never thought anything of it. It just seemed like the 'norm' to me.

Actually I remember the point being raised and although I didn't voice my opinion, you can add that of me and my partner to those who would prefer the logo on the front. Me because I'm succeptible to the cold, so unless it is VERY hot would wear a jacket or cardigan which would cover up the logo, and my partner so he could wear it to work (again because he tends to wear a jacket at work). I'm sure other people have reasons for wanting the logo on the back, but both views can be equally valid.

Can I just say that I've read a lot about Matt being surrounded on Saturday night...

I must have gotten there before most of them, I met him at the bar. XD I had one of those massive punch balloons. We had a short conversation:

M: Why are you doing that? I mean, what's that poor innocent balloon ever done to you?

Me: (a little stunned) Erm... well... you see... it's fun, it's damn addictive!

M: Oh really? Give me a go.

(he takes it and has a go)

M: Oh, you're right. I could do this all night!

(he hands it back)

M: I've got to get one of those for myself!

And then I got my Red Bull and left.

Seriously people - MATT RIPPY STOLE MY BALLOON! XD

Positives

- Organisation, which was great. ^^ Full set of autographs.

- The crewmember who Never gave my lost autograph booklet to for keeping hold of it till Never pointed me towards him.

- TooTall for putting up with me when I was going a bit rude having lost the booklet (I'm sorry if I was overly rude, truely I am! )

- The guests for being so epic

- The fact that I was able to leave my cricket bat and ball on the table on Friday and no one nicked them

- The good choice of music

Negatives

- Crowding of the guests, I'd love to have had a word with Kai. He's local to where i live... ^^;

- Erm... nothing else really!

If anyone is really that fussed about the t-shirt logo then just wear it back to front?!! Problem solved!

Tried that, it was the first thing I thought of, but the neck line feels awkard. Nice idea but it just doesn't work in practice

Was the drinks at the reception more drinkable then the first Hub? I think if the drinks are more drinkable rather then cheap p*ss that might be better.

The Adrift cocktail tasted like fizzy pineapple juice, frankly if I hadn't paid so much I would have left it.

I was peeved one woman took my seat after I went to the writers workshop as I couldn't sit by my friend. Leaving stuff is all fine and good but what if someone stole my wallet? That fear alone basically stopped me leaving my bag there as its the only thing I had I couldn't leave anything.

I think I'll combat this by bringing David Tennant with me and leaving him in my seat.

As for the casino night...unless you are into your history and eras i wouldn't expect you to understand...not one aspect of it was victorian and sorry but i don't feel an aspect of a great nigh is to stand around a casino table staring at Gareth playing a game of poker that my friends couldn't even get into....no insult to G Man there as he's a lovely guy but i like to take part in things not just watch.

As taken from Wikipedia:

'Popular forms of entertainment varied by social class. Victorian Britain, like the periods before it, was interested in theatre and the arts, and music, drama, and opera were widely attended. There were, however, other forms of entertainment. Gambling at cards in establishments popularly called casinos was wildly popular during the period: so much so that evangelical and reform movements specifically targeted such establishments in their efforts to stop gambling, drinking, and prostitution.'

Where as yes it may not have been a traditional victorian casino or gambling establishment, the main purpose of the Turn Of The Century Torchwood night was to have fun, and to give costume themes for attendees that wished to use the theme.

I must also be confused about logo's.THE HUB 2 and the date is on the front, that would be a logo, on the back is the advert for Randy.

At least the Northampton hotel did offer cocktails.

I was quite disappointed that there were no special cocktails offered at the bar in Bedford at Chevron 7.2 - I had really liked some of the cocktails offered at Chevron 7.

So I made the mistake of asking the guy at the bar if they had a regular cocktail menu. I would have been happy with one of the usual cocktails, nothing fancy. The guy at the bar looked at me as if I had two heads, consulted with his supervisor and then told me no, they were not offering any cocktails.

I was rather surprised, but got something else instead. When I was about to go back to our table the supervisor called me back (he had been digging through papers meanwhile). He handed me a rather old menu with the incredible amount of three cocktails on it. One was New York Ice Tea, one was Pimm's and I can't remember the third one.

I just wanted to say before it gets lost in the criticisms, that I prefer the small logo on the front and another print on the back of the t shirts. It is my personal taste to wear t shirts like that.

And by way of feedback on the event itself...

Positives:

The bag check system was more helpful run this way.

The big schedules worked really well.

Although I was a gold pass holder, I also sat elsewhere in the hall, including right at the back for Eve's talk with Kai and I felt that it was still a pretty good view although obviously had I wanted to take photos they wouldn't have been great. The screens at the side help enormously and the sound system was mostly very effective.

I love the thought that went into the Saturday night party theme. It was really well judged and all the little extras (I don't mean the tribe of pygmies - though it could also apply to them as well!) added enormously to the atmosphere.

Negatives:

I was ill before I got to the event and missed stuff by going to bed early. Next time can Massive Events please ensure I don't get ill and/or send guests direct to my room so I can say hi? :D

I loved it, all of it I wasn't even to stupid this time around the geusts(mostly) even went up to Roderic and asked if he was a giant cause of the group shot thing. I loved the bag systme it really worked, the huge schedules and just evrything. I think SM listened to evrything that was said last year and made this just perfect (for me and all my friends)

As for Kai it can't be easy to be bouncy and entertaining all the time. In front of so many people I thought he was great

I am also now toatly fan girling the DJ at the partysXD

loved it, see you in October x

Dunno what that means ! But thankyou anyway, the parties need people to make them go with a bang, you lot were awesome all weekend. Felt like a part in my front room no strife at all !! Good effort see you all in October if not before !

The weekend was brilliant. I think it ran much more smoothly than the last one. Really liked the way you left your bags at the photo shoot rather than taking your bag to another room. So much easier. I'm not a great fan of having my photo taken but am so pleased with the way all my photos turned out so thank the photgraphers for a job well done. The shedules in the pack were great and easy to follow. Also getting the gold, silver and standard tickets to que in different areas before being let into the hall was a good idea too. I spoke to a couple of people who said that they got bitchy looks because they were let into ques and talks before some others because they had a disability. My mum as arthritis and does her best to que like other people she did find it a lot harder this time. At Hub 3 I told her that she shouldn't stand so much but after hearing about the reactions of some people to this couple my mum is a bit aprehensive about asking to be let into the hall for the talks before others.

If the bitchy looks were on the Sunday, then (as one of those with a disability myself), it may have been because some of the disabled were incorrectly shown to prime seats rather than being scattered according to their ticket number. This was no fault of the disabled, who were only going where they were told to go (and in some cases even when they queried the seating were told it was OK!). And it only happened on the Sunday, and Tall Tall was made aware of the situation shortly afterwards and has hopefully put a mechanism in place so that it doesn't happen again. I am sure nobody would begrudge someone with a disability going into the hall first, as long as they didn't sit closer to the stage than their ticket number warranted. Luckily at the Hub I had a high enough ticket number that no-one could complain about where I sat, but at other cons that won't necessarily be the case, and the last thing I want is resentment from others, I have enough on my plate coping with my disability as it is, all I want is to be able to enjoy the cons in comfort.

Tina,

I think I remember seeing you and your mum on Sunday coming into the hall and by then it was too late for me to help. Please do come and see me at the HUB 3 and we'll look at getting you sat down early.

It annoys me that people give funny looks and that it then puts off genuine people like your mum asking.

I'm sure these looks are aimed at people that "don't look" like they need help. Trust me I'm sure no one will think twice why your mum needs to come in early, as I saw you helping her into the hall. So please do come and see me.

Stuart.

Yes this appeared to be a miscommunication between myself and the crew. I said one thing and another was heard. I will be making sure it doesn't happen again.

We run a policy of "equal" access for disabled people, not preferential access. So this was a mistake.

I'd be interested to know when these "faces" were pulled.
