Thirdof7
I have taken it upon myself to do the ice bucket challenge at Winter Comic Con to raise money for Macmillian Cancer and for Teenage Cancer Trust and I thought I would post here not only to let people know but to see if I could possibly do it in the con - perhaps on one of the stages when its not in use to raise money for charity as well as 10 minutes of silly cosplay humour seeing me get two or more buckets of ice and water thrown on me? Moderators DavidB Posted August 25, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 25, 2014 I doubt you can have buckets of water going everywhere on a stage inside.
dogsoldierspoon
Maybe if you bring an inflatable pool?
Gmorris2504
As much as I love the idea and the charitable movement behind it I very much doubt that health and saftey would be happy with you doing it on stage in October. I'm more than happy to support it though! It's great fun for a great cause
jael001
My personal feeling is that the ice bucket challenge should stay as being for ALS/Motor Neurone Disease and other causes/charities should have their own thing. MND is so under-researched and under-funded and cancer charities get a lot of money annually from donations already. Please let this particular charity/cause have it's day with the ice bucket thing and find some other way to raise money for Macmillan etc. Sorry if that sounds harsh, I just think it's unfair for cancer charities to piggyback onto this when everyone and their sister is doing Race for Life or other cancer related money-raising events.
Clarkey
I don't think it's a good idea to do on stage at LFCC. If you want to raise funds for charity just donate money.
Starbuck17
It is a great idea, I was nominated last week and did it for ALS/MND, it was very cold and water went everywhere which is exactly why I don't think you could do it inside. Health and Safety and all that. Maybe you could do it as a group thing outside?

Leacroft
ice bucket "challenges" are a self-aggrandizing, boorish pox. I very much doubt Earls Court or Showmasters would appreciate a stunt of this nature. As if, post- Summer LFCC (& subsequent introspection) the organisers need individuals with buckets of iced water running amok. Maybe consider highlighting the great charity & raising money in a more appropriate manner? Edited August 27, 2014 by Leacroft

You could have an area outside where you pay some money into a charity box to either have a go yourself or nominate a friend. I think that's the best you could hope for though. I don't know where you'd get enough water from though.

Totally agree with this! If you're going to do it, do it for the chosen charity! It's a nice idea but like others have said, I doubt you'd be able to do it indoors, nothing stopping you outdoors though! Where are you planning on getting the water from? Actually Macmillan started it back in July, but no one seems to be aware of that so they have taken some very heavy abuse on their facebook page. Luckily no one has even dared nominate me yet for ALS or Macmillan, but if they do, I am flat out refusing, as there are other charities that deserve my money just as much as they do, but as always are ignored!
Kuato_Lives
The Ice Bucket Challenge's 5 minutes of fame will probably be long forgotten by October's WLFCC.
jael001
actually it started for ALS in the US back in May, long before Macmillan decided to get involved

To be honest I don't care who started it! Seems a lot of people don't either as I went and donated to my favourite charity and many had done their Ice Bucket Challenge for them instead! I totally agree with this! I also totally agree with it. I wouldn't do it any way for the same reasons that Pamela Anderson turned it down. I choose to give my money to animal related charities and that's my choice. As for the complete waste of water when there are people on the other side of the world who have none... I won't even mention that.

The animal testing is the reason I turned the challenge down as well. I have a small number of charities I donate to when I can. They are only small and don't get the huge publicity like some charities do!
andini
There is no exclusivity on charity, people should be able to donate to whatever charity they want whenever they want, not bullied into it by peer pressure, which the whole ice bucket hysteria is basically doing.

I got moaned at for saying pretty much the same thing on facebook! They wrote a long post explaining how awful ALS and therefore I should do the challenge and donate (Did not do the challenge but did donate). So I turned round and said no one really knows about or understands my condition, and this includes medical professionals! Shut them right up! The way I see it, is all charities need publicity and donations, but none of them deserve it more than the others.
