They shouldn't have a problem - I was working photoshoot Saturday and we found and put all your pics together with your description (inc the diagram of the K necklace!)

Collectormania Midlands – March 1st 2008-03-03

Had been looking forward to this for a while now, the chance to meet Bruce Campbell doesn't come around very often!

The event was at Coventry's Ricoh Arena, which meant an early start to the day for us (up at 5:00am to catch a train at 6:42) and we made it to Coventry at about 9:00am after some delays, thankfully there was a free bus service to the arena from the train station.

The room itself was a bit soulless to tell the truth, had an "empty warehouse" vibe but there were stalls everywhere, the first thing you see when you enter the room is the Bumblebee car that was used in Transformers, what a treat! I obviously couldn't help but have a couple of pics with it.

We then got our tickets for some of the talks later (George Taker was doing one and Marina Sirtis / Brent Spiner were doing a joint one) and then picked up some autograph tickets to later meet George, Leonard Roberts and of course, Bruce himself.

We had some time to spare now (our photoshoot with Bruce was scheduled for 11:55am) so we pottered around the various stalls, Carrie bought a rare Jorg Buttergeit DVD that included some of his super-8 movies. Overall though, the stalls were either disappointing or too expensive to consider (though it is great to look at some of the stuff they have on sale, if only money wasn't an issue!).

The first person we met was Leonard Roberts, who is now known for being D.L. Hawkins in Heroes (the guy that can walk through walls) but was also in Buffy for 12 episodes so it was great to meet someone who has been in two of my favourite TV shows. Leonard came across as a very nice guy, I asked him if he was hoping to get a part somewhere in Joss Whedon's new show that he's currently writing (called Dollhouse), he said he hasn't seen him in a long time now but it would be great.

We then met George Takei, I'm a Trekkie, for my sins and with George also being in Heroes, I was excited to meet him. I'm not sure I've met a nicer bloke, we talked for a few minutes about Heroes and how great it was to see him on TV again, he asked us where we'd came from to get here, etc, incredibly nice man. I couldn't help but do the geeky Vulcan greeting (I noticed there was a picture of him and Hiro doing it) and get our picture taken. I apologised for being a geek about it and he said "you're a geek too?" and then when we were done he said "carry on, geek!".

Then it was time for the Bruce Campbell photoshoot, I knew that Bruce would be too busy to allow for pictures to be taken over the desk like Leonard and George so we bought some professional photoshoot tickets, much like we did with James Marsters last May. We made sure we got there early because George Takei's talk was at 12:20 and we didn't want to miss it. By the time Bruce was visible you could see what a clown he is, joking around and pulling funny faces in the photos, which often meant the photographer had to take another picture (good news for the fans as they'd get another photo, as Carrie ended up with!). As much as I love Bruce I did have the slightest doubt in my mind that he would disappoint (not much, but it always lingers when you're meeting someone you like so much), that he might be grumpy from having such a busy day or just not really be "into" it, but he really was, at these photoshoots you don't really get much time with them, it's very much a case of standing there, get a picture, shake hands and be on your way. When it was my turn Bruce shook my hand and looked puzzled at my shirt, then read it out loud and chuckled (at which point I completely made a fool of myself and got my tongue in a twist trying to tell him to watch a film called Slither. Photo was taken, another handshake and I was on my way.

Thankfully we were just in time to go to George Takei's talk, the first talk I'd been to at one of these events (they were free here and it felt like a good way to break the day up), he once again came across as a thoroughly likeable man, he spoke about being in Coventry (the last time was about 20 years ago at a Star Trek convention) and how he loves the UK, he was then asked some questions from the audience (I was too far away from the microphone but I wanted to ask what super-power he would like if his character in Heroes had an ability), he answered questions about racism in his early years and his upbringing and a lot about Star Trek, it was an interesting talk, they only last 30 minutes and it seemed to fly by.

We then had 30 minutes to kill before the next talk we wanted to go to, which was Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi) and Brent Spiner (Data), who were of course both in Star Trek: The Next Generation (of which I am a big fan!), they were a great double act and incredibly funny. Contradicting each other where possible, Brent taking the mick out of our "English" accents and how he only understand English (American)! I've heard people say that Brent can come across as ungrateful but from seeing this talk I just think they must misinterpret his humour, everything was a joke to him (I can relate!) and it was a great talk.

We walked around the stalls a bit more and then we queued up to get Bruce's autograph, everyone before us was asking him the same questions (I was hoping to ask him about My Name is Bruce and Burn Notice but the previous 3 people all did!), first he greeted us "you must be Chris (shaking Carrie's hand) and you must by Carrie (shaking my hand)" to which I replied "well, it is the weekend" and he said "RIGHT! You've got your frock on!" and laughed, I then said I'd noticed everyone had already asked him about My Name Is Bruce and Burn Notice so I asked how his lavender was doing "it's fine… I don't have to do anything, it grows!", I hate how after I meet people I think of a hundred other things I want to say, but ho-hum! It was great to meet Bruce and I was so glad he was upbeat and happy, my illusions were not shattered.

I then haggled a few quid off the price of a really cool Army of Darkness… thing, I'm not sure what it is now I think about it, it's a heavy poster-type statue. Anyway, here's a picture:

And that was it really, we hopped back on the bus to the train station and had a while to wait for our train so found a nearby pub and had a pint before heading home.

A great day, expensive but worth it!

It's a 3-D poster and not a good one at that - the McFarlane ones are far superior like their ones for Jaws, Alien, Robocop, A Nightmare on Elm St, Friday The 13th and The Godfather. They're about £18 and worth getting - I have Alien and Robocop ones on my desk at work. :D

Anyone got any of me in my Roxas costume? Preferably with my keyblade. xD

i think my friend Giles did, he was one of my pro photo guys...if they're anywhere they'll be up on his flicker account and you can ask him about maybe getting copies. When they're up.

Lala,

Thanks a lot for that! I've only got 3 pics and I can't wait to get'em! :) Thanks for letting me know though, I really appreciate that! Sorry about the crap diagram, I got my friend to draw it in the end, considering I'm the artistic one she did a way better job of it... I just helpfully drew an arrow with looks like this written next to it!
