Moderators DavidB Posted September 30, 2010 Moderators Share Posted September 30, 2010 http://www.empireonline.com/interviews/int...ew.asp?IID=1086 It’s funny how things come full circle.Yeah, that’s going to open in Houston in the brand new theatre complex they’re building, in May next year. Can you imagine at this time of my life that I would get an opportunity like that? That’s like winning the Lottery. And you get to say “nobody’s perfect!†(laughs) At long last! It’ll be on my gravestone. ‘Tony Curtis: Nobody’s Perfect’.

keithporter23
'Nobodys perfect.......' Wasn't it his co-star Jack Lemmon that said that? RIP Tony. It certainly was Jack Lemmon, and it was said to Joe E Brown - it was the very last line of the movie 'Some Like It Hot', and it is probably the best final line in any movie. Tony said he was going to have it inscribed on his gravestone... If anyone has never seen the movie, I implore you to beg, steal or borrow a copy. Voted the #1 comedy of all time and will never be beaten. Tony was one of the last of the Hollywood greats, we need to see a few more of these remaining legends at Autographica before it's too late.... spocks-brain
RIP Tony. A true legend. Thank you so much to Autographica for getting him as a guest in 2008. One of the greatest guests we've ever had. it was the very last line of the movie 'Some Like It Hot', and it is probably the best final line in any movie. 'Some Like It Hot' is definitely my favourite comedy of all time. As well as meeting Tony, I was lucky enough to meet Jack Lemmon after seeing him in a play with Michael Gambon at the Haymarket Theatre in London and he was great too. And I got a reply from Billy Wilder once through the mail - great signed and personalised card, plus a separate card saying that he didn't send out photos because that was just for actors lol. Could almost hear him saying that about actors. Everyone should definitely see that film. I'd also recommend 'Sweet Smell of Success', and 'The Defiant Ones', to anyone who hasn't seen them. Two brilliant films. And yes we really need to try and get as many of these older true legends as possible. The one I've been wanting to meet the most is Lauren Bacall, but any of these type of stars will get me to travel to any signing show, no matter where it is in UK. And they definitely bring in a lot of extra attendees at shows. Edited September 30, 2010 by spocks-brain

spocks-brain
Lauren Bacall and Jane Russell should definitely be invited before its too late. We should treasure these iconic greats, as we will never see the likes of them again.. Exactly. We don't like to think it, but as we've seen with Tony Curtis today - someone who was still doing lots of public events up to a few months ago - it really is a case of now or never. These are definitely the film guests that mean the most to me for meeting. With Autographica being only twice a year, and stars like this not always available at those times, I think these iconic stars would fit in well at any SM signing show during the year. After seeing Tony Curtis at Autographica in 2008 I saw him again in London a year later at a non SM event, where people may not have thought he'd have fitted well as a guest. But he did, and was very popular, because of course so many people, young and older, like to see the true legends of film history, no matter what the setting. I could easily see these type of guests having some of the biggest queues, even at shows where they may seem like an unlikely guest. Most fans would want to take the chance to meet them, and even collectors who are there mainly for other guests would think about meeting them, as they'd know it would almost certainly be the last ever chance in the UK. Let's hope over the next year that we get a few more of these older iconic film legends than we have this year. Whichever show they're at, I'd definitely be there. spocks-brain
Just in case anyone hasn't read the Tony Curtis thread in the Autographica section, I thought I'd repeat this info here. It's still possible to get authentic autographs from Tony's official site. They're still selling his handsigned autographed photos, books, posters and more from the online store. I guess he signed a lot in advance. http://shop.tonycurtis.com/main.sc They put a message up on the homepage after he died, because there must have been an obvious increase in orders - -------------- NOTICE: 9/30/10 Due to the large volume of orders, there may be a delay in receiving your items. We have everything in stock and will get all of the orders processed as soon as we can. Thank you. -------------- The good thing is that all the prices are exactly the same as they were before his passing. And theres a great selection of items onsale. Plus, we know its definitely authentic, unlike all the 'signed' items that will appear on the auction sites. Worth checking out for anyone who didn't get his autograph, or those who want to add extra ones to their collection.
