Showmasters Admin showmasters Posted July 24, 2008 Showmasters Admin Share Posted July 24, 2008 ok 1st they ARE FREE 2nd they ARE FREE 3ed you cannot go and buy images from the copyright holder for every film and tv show that a guests has worked on "WHY" because most films and TV shows dump there photo library's after around 5 years after the show has aired as they make no money from them, so if you want images from Sharp or the blues brothers it is nearly impossible to find the images also we spend days finding the best images we can and as sometimes we only have a week to find images its very hard As to copyright we try to seek permission if we do not have a source to get licensed images and in lost of cases we get it and in some cases the guests them selves have rights to images which we reproduce at our cost,we never make any money from images given away at the show they are FREE items we always recommend people find there own images, we are only trying to help the people that cannot find images, and this is what we get for helping, so now you all know wear we are coming from its not an issue we never address, Andrea addresses this every time its just something that is a gigantic task every show we run and we only just get the images together in time its a lot of work and you will never know how much work it is in less you try it we will try our best as we always do, if this is not good enough sorry jason
keithporter23
Jason , I was more than happy with the photos on offer - sure there were a few pixellated/grainy ones, this cannot be helped. For every single guest I met, there were more than enough high quality photos for me to choose from. I can understand the problems you face sourcing good quality images, especially at such short notice (Christopher Lloyd), and with a million other things to do. I always try to take my own back up 10 x8 just in case, and I had a hell of a job finding high quality Lloyd/Doc Brown images!! I think people should be a little more grateful for what they get. Some guests were only charging 10 quid for a signed picture - so lets say Showmasters provided official 10x8 pictures to be signed - they would have to be paid for somehow (licensing, copyright, printing etc is very expensive), and the autograph would have to increase in price to cover costs. I'm sure people would be less happy if this happened. As I spend hours trawling the internet looking for pictures to be signed for myself, i'd be more than happy to try and source some decent images for future shows, if it would help at all, just let me know. Crow T. Robot
Well I'm thankful that you guys provide us with free photos and give us a nice selection. And I don't mind about the quality because if I can make out what it is, then it's fine with it.
Ship01
and thank you for confirming that the actor are happy to sign pictures such as screendumps. You could help us fans by telling sean harry about screen dump should be allowed to be signed , Weird, weren't you just complaining about the quality of the photos yet you actually want to use screen grabs? Showmasters Admin showmasters Posted July 24, 2008 Author Showmasters Admin Share Posted July 24, 2008 thank you for your answer I understand All I ask is please show the pictures you are going to use for each actor on the website before an event so we know to source out a better picture if we do not like the quality or the selection free on offer. we do not have the time to put up each guests photos that will be on offer mate as we only just have the time to get them ready for the show if you work it out thats 5 images for 51 guests =250 images that have to be found some in the last week before the show jason

You cannot win either way. The simplest solution is the one used. If you want a specific picture signed, bring it yourself.
SikozuShanu
I just wanted to say that I have never been even slightly disappointed with any of the photos on ofer. I got a 'grainy' (although it looked goodto me) photo for Brad Dourif to sign because it was a great image, it captured the character he was playing perfectly. I'm an artist. When I work from photos I require a certain quality... and even those 'grainy' ones are more than sufficient. Stop complaining about a FREE item. I dunno, I think all this 'high definition' balls has gone to some folks heads. Thanks Showmasters for a GREAT event!
Doudou02100
Hi and thanks for the answer, I understand your position, that I don't understand is for example for Wolf Kahler from Indiana Jones Raiders of the lost Ark, when you go on the website londonfilmandcomiccon you can see a very good colored picture of him but when you go for meeting him the same photo is in black and white while it was the most beautiful photo of him. nicky
I never get the photos on the desk signed, only my own posters. But sometimes I have liked them enough to pick one up if its a nice one, even more if it's a rare image I havent seen before.

Maybe the colour photo couldn't be printed in large size, even if it was the same image. There often have been rather nice looking photos on the main pages that never showed up on the table. I've always guessed that this was the reason. Although this would definitely be the first time that I remember with the colour/black and white variation happening. I'm going to pin this post now to make sure it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
Avengers7
There was nothing wrong with the photos that I had so I don't understand what all the fuss is about. If I'm not sure there will be a photo from a certain show - I bring my own. Thanks again for a good weekend
Metal Gear
I suppose it just depends how critical you are of photo quality. Some of the photos are slightly grainier than others (for the reasons given above), but I would not describe them as bad quality. Maybe slightly less perfect than some others, but never bad. When you consider they are free, that's a pretty good deal. Also the content of "screen-grab" photos are often really rare. For example, for Ernie Hudson I got a great photo of him and Brandon Lee together from The Crow, which would not be available as an "official" photo. I do try to bring my own photos as often as possible when it's a major guest, but am happy enough with the choice on the desk for the ones I don't have anything for. (Well, I always hate horizontal pics... but I know its easier to have them with screenshots and I'd rather than than my own blurred screenie lol- tis just me bein fussy )

riversidejon
Sorry SM, to ask more questions but... If you can bring your own photos, are there any copyright issues for these images, for example could you put the shows logo onto a pic, e.g. Lost, Heroes. (as on many photo at the event). Count Fooku
I completely understand the issues that SM experience in obtaining images for guests. I think it's easy to take the free photos for granted without really considering the effort that goes in to sourcing them. I do have a suggestion, its a bit of a one off the top of my head so I can see a few logistical problems with it already, but... As it's not always possible to get a peak at the photos before the guest starts signing (with popular guests sometimes a queue is formed before the guest has sat down or in some cases crew members aren't keen for people to go and look at the pictures beforehand, that has happened to me a few times) so how about having a board somewhere which displays what pictures are available for maybe the most popular four or five guests. That way if you know for certain a certain image is not there you have the chance to go and buy something before you are in to a queue and realising you are going to be disappointed. Like I say I can see some issues from the kick off, would need to be quite a large board if a guest has a lot to choose from and the pictures may run out so whats on the board may not fully represent whats available. It just struck me there might be an option there worth exploring. End of the day though its like penalty shoot outs in football, I suspect there will never be an answer which will 100% please everyone!

I was looking for some good quality BTTF photos. Would there be any chance you could email me the one or 2 I am looking for? Not to get signed, just cos I've always loved them. MikeDonovan
Like I've said before, I really don't understand what the fuss is about. There are plenty of dealers there, or alternatively bring your own stuff. Done.
Noddy
I have no problem with that. My only point is that other events consistently offer a higher quality of free photos and that this could be an area that SM might wish to improve.
