Faerie Tanith
I hope it isn't just me who's done this! For years I pronounced Katie McGrath's name wrong. (The 'th' in McGrath is silent, which it took me two years to find out ) And I won't insult myself by explaining how badly I've been pronouncing Leigh Whannell's name. (His name is pronounced Lee. I should have known that.)
loveamyadams
how about Saoirse Ronan , the Irish actress from The Host. I've heard at least four different pronounced versions of her name when people have called for an autograph. Its actually said as Sursha!
Not_Pennys_Ship
Last year, we had Sibel Kekilli as a guest. She said it's pronounced as "Sy-bell". Although it is easy to mistakenly pronounce it as "See-bill". Edited June 28, 2015 by Not_Pennys_Ship

I've heard at least four different pronounced versions of her name when people have called for an autograph. Its actually said as Sursha! A name like Saoirse is a trick name anyway, like Siobhan. After the 'S', none of the letters make sense. No offense to anyone with those names of course, but only recently did I work out the actual pronounciation for both names and wow did I feel stupid. Oh, another was Daveigh Chase. Granted, I was eight years old, but I thought it was pronounced 'Day-vie' at first, when it's actually 'Duh-vey'. jael001
I got told off by Cillian Murphy at a premiere once for pronouncing him name wrong lol. It's a hard K sound apparently.
bonniesrg
The Worst is when one year someone will write it correctly on a Christmas card, then the next year get it completely wrong. Or they spell it one way on the envelope, then they do in the card.

KingRichard76
To THIS day I don't know how to pronounce Cary Elwes surname - El-WES or Eullles is still a conundrum to me. I was speaking to a Friend yesterday and mentioned that Alice Krige had been announced for #LFCC and totally pronounced her surname wrong - but as iloveAmyAdams says about Saoirse I wasn't sure how to pronounce that. But yep even now I don't know how to pronounce Elwes.
Faerie Tanith
Oh, Cary Elwes! I absolutely have the same problem (he's up there with Leigh Whannell in terms of how much embarrassment this causes me ><), although I learned his last name is pronounced 'El-wez'.

Faerie Tanith
His IMDB page and a youtube interview have confirmed this. I had to watch multiple youtube interviews to figure out that Leigh Whannell's name is pronounced 'Lee' (and sometimes with the Australian accents, it still sounds like 'Lay')... interviews are your friend!
Moderators etmuse Posted June 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 28, 2015 My sister and I sat and repeatedly listened to the first bit of a DVD commentary on Agents of SHIELD to learn how Iain De Caestecker pronounced his surname (he has since explained it in a much more simple way - 'remove all the Es and just read what's left')

KingRichard76
I got to admit that I began pronouncing my favourite artist's name wrong - H.R Giger It is GEE-GUR not GUY-GUR Gee - Gur as in GEE GUR :) Ahhhh now i know I've not heard of H.R Giger but admittedly I wouldn't have known how to pronounce that either... o.o He's most well known for designing the concept art for Alien - he attended the Prometheus Premiere in 2012 and so both him and Sir. Ridley Scott are on my Alien DVD. IF I had the money spare I'd get Sigourney to sign it as well. H.R. passed away some time ago.
Wrong Name
I've not heard of H.R Giger but admittedly I wouldn't have known how to pronounce that either... o.oHe designed the original Alien (the Sigourny franchise) And did a lot of work on Species too. Very dark bio-mechanical/sexual artist. I'm a fan, but he's definitely not for everyone's taste!
Faerie Tanith
Ah, well, Alien isn't my fandom of choice so that explains it.
