carryfiasco
Yea, i'm quite happy going places on my own that aren't kind of based fully on the socialising side. i go to gigs and theatre shows and snooker matches on my own all the time, but you don't really get much chance to talk at those anyway, so it doesn't make a difference whether you're with people or not. and conventions i tend to like making new friends there, or just sparking up conversations while i queue so i don't mind being alone there. at cons it's probably easier being alone to be honest because if you have slightly different interests things will probably clash anyway, in which case you either have to make a sacrifice or split up. I did start seeing a guy a year or so ago and started going out to pubs in glasgow after work, but i'll be honest i prefer to get home from work, and then just crash out or just have a shower and then do stuff in the house. it's not that i don't drink i just don't see the point in wasting money on alcohol when you don't really get anything out of it in the end. work is pretty unsocial too really, the only time they ever go out for drinks on friday is for peoples leaving do's or special occasions with clients, so it's mostly just a lunch time chat with them. being an engineer as well, (25. female) the majority of people at work are a totally different generation, married with kids my age so it's not really like i can tag along on nights out with them in an attempt to meet new people haha. Like I said, you won't be the only one attending by yourself. Last year I asked my friend to go along with me simply because I didn't know what to expect. He had his 'I'm too cool for this' head on which resulted in us coming home pretty early on. It was a good thing that Robert Englund's talk was on later in the afternoon or we'd have went home even earlier. This year I'm actually looking forward to going along by myself as I'll have more time to look around, meet the guests, buy some unnecessary stuff that my wife will hate, and hopefully speak to some of the nice folks i've met on here. yea i'm kinda looking forward to being on my own. i'd just like to get to know a few people before i go that i can maybe meet up with during the weekend. i'm the kind of person that enjoys people watching and listening to other peoples conversations so i tend to just go on impulse talking to strangers. i have a habit of answer questions for people near by if they're confused and i over hear them not knowing what to do. haha. :)

vodkawrestling
sooo this will be my first collectormania event... any advice for a newbie going alone? :) you'll be fine, just dont believe the 'everyones friendly' stuff. Last year I went alone the first day then took my wee boy (dressed as Iron Man) the 2nd day. The venue was mobbed, staff were was great, vendors superb but tons of visitors were grumpy, rude and honked of BO. Way to go on the stereotype killin, folks! My buddy is coming up from Croydon this year as he is just getting into Comics which is all kinds of awesomes for me If you can, grab a bud or meet someone from here, I'd say it would make your day/days a lot better. I fired over a wee follow on Twitter, there should be some chat there on the lead-up

vodkawrestling
I'm a freak mate, I don't go to meet people at these things. I've the most screwed up moral compass on earth thats hard to explain but something doesnt sit well with me paying a person just to meet them. I love the occasion, meeting random people and learning. I dont do signatures or photos with anyone in any walk of life. Id rather just meet them and say "you're awesome for such and such a reason, thanks for those cool memories" and walk on like the oddball I am haha.

I've started think a lot more like this recently too, after having a huge inner debate about if I wanted to go see Stan Lee, I had the tickets all booked up and everything then realised, hang on obviously it's a big deal to me but to Stan I'm just another guy in the line he won't particularly remember me out of all the other fans. I then came to the conclusion that I would rather meet any famous person in a natural way rather than just hound them for a photo/auto as I know it's not what I would do in the event I did bump into them, so why go out my way to do it for these kind of shows? I don't collect autos or anything so it seems weird that I do it for these things. So yeah from now on my focus is on the event and being more social throughout the whole day. _ItsWilliam_
Stupid question... If a Scotland goes independent in September will we still have CMG?
Marky242
Why wouldn't there be any more CMG's if we vote YES to independance? Or is that another scare story that Better Together have started, along with we won't be able to use the £??
modern_day_prophet
I like the idea of this conspiracy we've concocted that goes right to the upper echelons of the government in Westminster. Are we suggesting that If the Scottish people dare to vote for Independence, they'll somehow place an embargo around our future guests? haha... Making up excuses as to why certain celebrities cant make it and all that... "Would Mr. Radcliffe like to attend GCM?" "Oh er...He's on holiday. Wont be back for ages,"....that kinda thing? Suddenly no-ones taking Scotland's con-related calls...hahahaha. I'm sure if we do go Independent, CMG will still be the event it always has been, don't worry, William :) Brilliant.
thewizard
im sure if we go.independant anyone from outside scotland will need to apply to come here.then we have our own scottish pound which will probably be worth.more than the english pound. carnosoul
Hi What did everyone think of Penny Dreadful i wasnt sure about it after i watched the first episode but by the second and third episode i was hooked, the storylines was good and a unique take on the novels,Timothy Dalton,Josh Harnett and Eva Green were really good in their roles, iam looking forward to season two and see how they tie all the stories together
OverGeek
im sure if we go.independant anyone from outside scotland will need to apply to come here.then we have our own scottish pound which will probably be worth.more than the english pound. An independent Scotland will NOT have any border controls, this is a fabricated scare tactic by the "Better Together" campaign. We already have the Scottish pound mate, it's exactly the same as the English one except for the fact outside Scotland it's treated like it's not legal tender. We are highly unlikely to ever use any other currency than the Pound (£) and it's always carry the same worth regardless of where the coins/notes are issued. Stupid question... If a Scotland goes independent in September will we still have CMG? There's no reason why there wouldn't be anymore CMG's though obviously that is in the hands of ShowMasters though hopefully it would give them more opportunity to grow and create more Scottish conventions. I wouldn't ever use the possibility of none (if that was to happen, don't forget there will always be other events) as a reason to be against independence.
