Well I think Paul could be possible, his next movieproject will start in 2011 (de stille kracht) and he doesn't live far from the UK. London is just an hour by plane from the Netherlands. And he seems to be a nice bloke!

The allmighty Paul Verhoeven (for those who don't know the director of ROBOCOP, TOTAL RECALL, BASIC INSTINCT, STARSHIP TROOPERS, THE BLACK BOOK and many others... his films made + 2 000 000 000 , yes nine zeros, dollars internationally) :

1. is living in Holland

2. just a week ago was in Santa Monica signing his book (and other stuff  at Aero Theatre.

3. and , yes, his book is available in the UK

4. and ,yes-yes-yes he has returned to Holland from the US a few days ago.

And regarding popularity of Megan Fox. There is a tool which measures star's popularity. It's called

IMDBPro starmeter.

STARmeter rankings provide a snapshot of who's popular based on the searches of millions of IMDb users. Updated weekly, these rankings also graph the popularity of people over time and determine which events affect public awareness.

Megan Fox - currently on the position number 52 (all the stars included even RIP ones) - and without any new film at the moment.

For comparison...

Denise Crosby - currently on position number 4344.

Denis "Wedge" Lawson - currently on position 8500.

Have to say - i'm slightly freaked out by some of these posts. Somebody here is clearly stalking Anderson, Verhoeven, aykroyd and Fox - while another Guardian reading forum member has never heard of any of the above (apart from Anderson), has only a vague idea what Dallas is, and has never seen Ghostbusters (while still claiming to be a sci-fi fan!!!!). TSK!!

TSK!!

First, Dallas was before my time. I never came across it as a kid because my parents brought me up on Trek. So Dallas... like I said, I knew it was popular, I knew there was a guy called JR who got shot and something about it being a dream. I didn't grow up with it, none of my circle did. I suppose one could argue that I love Yes, Minister and that was before my time. But a lot of it is to do with what your parents show you.

I didn't say I haven't seen Ghostbusters, I said that I've not sat down and watched it in one go (to my knowledge). I was too young to be taken to the cinema, it's not one that I've ever had on video / DVD and is on my long list of things to rectify. I've only recently seen Bowie's "Labyrinth". I have never had much interest in full length feature films. I have other areas of interest that take up a lot of my time, and it's particularly difficult to make time to see films that are shown on inappropriate (for me) times on television. When I do, it still tends to be when I'm studying (though I'm no longer a student, I am still learning further languages) or whilst I'm marking. A 45 minute episode is far easier to slot into my day.

I did admit my stupidity with Aykroyd. Having done the imdb I realised I did know who he was, it was just me not connecting dots. Perhaps I shouldn't have admitted it, but I was trying to point out that one person's "big guest" is someone who doesn't interest the next at all, and it's far from "everyone would want to meet them".

As for sci-fi fan, that doesn't mean you have to have seen every sci-fi piece ever made. Heck, it doesn't even mean sci-fi in film or television. I love Stargate, Star Trek, Dark Angel, BSG (both new and classic), have recently got into V (both new and classic), Firefly, Babylon 5, Andromeda, Red Dwarf, The X Files, Logan's Run, Back to the Future, Men in Black, Doctor Who, Roswell, Invasion: Earth, Galaxy Quest, Twilight Zone and so many more. In terms of written sci-fi, I love Asimov, Wells, Lovecraft, Verne (though in the original French), Ellison and many of the new wave writers.

I particularly enjoy other areas of speculative fiction, such as fantasy. Many of my preferred shows/films/books fall into this category, such as Buffy, Lord of the Rings, Sanctuary...

Seeing as these areas are the primary source of my preferred recreational material, I don't see the issue in calling myself a "sci-fi fan".

I will freely admit that I've not managed to see Star Wars, I've never seen Dallas, I've never heard of this "Megan Fox". I suppose it's quite funny, the strange little bubble that I obviously live in. I'm going to assume that Keith was having a bit of a joke, poking fun at me like that, and that's part of the reason I did mention the SW and Dallas. It's rather laughable.

But one of the things that really gets me about fandom is this sort of internal hierarchy that is propagated. We're already seen as the scourge of society. If you mention "sci-fi" to the world at large, people think of "comic book guy" from the Simpsons or some of the over-zealous types from Galaxy Quest. They think that we're all misfits who can't function in normal society and that we're freaks.

My experience may be different from yours. But the vast majority of fans I know, and with whom I converse, are normal people who just happen to love sci-fi. They have normal jobs (I'm a teacher, one friend is a lawyer, another is a nurse, a third works in a casino) and have friends who aren't in fandom (my best friend rolls her eyes and says "that's nice, dear" when I come back from an event).

So instead of banding together and accepting that we all have different tastes and experiences of fandom, we end up attacking and ridiculing each other, and creating a catty and sniping hierarchy amongst ourselves, so that we don't feel so inadequate, so that we know there's someone lower down the ladder, someone sadder.

Fandom isn't about credentials, what you've seen and what you've not seen, what you've read or haven't. It's not about getting one up on the next person... or I didn't think it was.

Tammy, I'm not saying your guest suggestions aren't ones some people would like to see, I'm saying they're not for me. I don't care if Megan Fox is a lot more popular on IMDB than Denise Crosby. That was not my point, because I know that not a lot of people will go cuckoo over her. I'm saying that for me Denise is a much better guest. Yes, I decided to give your suggestion about asking people a go. Four people knew who she was, the rest didn't (there were a lot who didn't). But most of them aren't film buffs, so how would they know?

The whole point is that each person has their own opinions and things that they prefer. I know that some people are dying to get Lawson's autograph to complete a collection. I know others are extremely excited about Michael Biehn (another one I had to imdb and felt like an idiot for doing so). But, for me, I'll be over the moon at meeting Glenister (I missed him in MK), Armin Shimerman, Mercedes McNab and Jennifer Blanc. I am excited that Miriam Margoyles and Chris Judge are there, but I've met them many times before.

These shows would not work as well as they do if everyone had exactly the same taste.

Rant over. Sorry.

For what it's worth I haven't heard of half the people on the latest page of the guest suggestions - except for the Buffy related ones, and a few others

I think that means at 33 I'm too old rather than too young :D

(while still claiming to be a sci-fi fan!!!!). TSK!!

I've never seen 2001, Lord Of The Rings, have yet to see Iron Man, Star Trek 2009, it's a funny web some of us weave.

I work with someone who loves Horrors - who'd never heard of David Warner. So I said he was in The Omen - he's never seen it. And he's two years younger than me.

And there's a lot of people born after 1980, that if they didn't have elder siblings missed out on Star Wars until 1998.

Amazing opportunity: SM could invite 4 amazing guest (November or never)

Because of star alignment ShowMasters could invite 4 amazing guests for Collectormania.

The catch is – they could come in November or… never ever!

Here is the big four:

1. DAN AYKROYD – he is promoting his Crystal Skull Vodka and is open to travel anywhere ‘til the end of the end of November. Later he’ll be doing a play in the US and from the beginning of 2011 he is doing... Ghostbusters 3

I would give my right arm to meet him

Dear Jason,

I'm very very thankful for your wondeful convetions! I've attended many of them and have wonderful recollections.

This is why I brought up these 4 super big guest that you could get for CM. Instead of writing "I want this one, this one, this one and this one..." I told that these people probably could be invited for Collectormania, because they are free at that time and there are high chances they would agree...I said why there's a huge possibility for that. You shouldn't get angry beacuse someone is givning you advice or a clue. Take it or not...

What's the point in comments like..."do it yourself" or "i can stop running my own conventions"???

You prefer to invite "Johnny Smith" instead of "John Doe"? Ok. That's your call.

I don't want to make my own con...I just gave you vital info that these and these guys are available...Did I insult you by that??

I'm not even doing this for myself because, for instance, I actually was at Verhoeven's signing last week in Santa Monica, so for me he eventual presence at Collectormania is not that important.

-----

And regarding popularity and IMDBPro starmeter. I just pointed out that popularity is not a matter of a one fan's opinion "I prefer Denise Crosby over Magan Fox", but something that you can measure. Millions decide who's popular and who's not popular.

------

As regarding to the person who called me a stalker I won't even comment on it...or maybe I will. This very rude to call someone a stalker. Is it ok to call someone a stalker on this messageboard just like that?

If not

I'm asking moderator to delete this rude, pathetic and unjustful comment about a stalker.-----

The 'star' thing doesn't really take into account the context of a convention though does it? Someone may not be high up in that, but they may be rare as an autograph signer and so demand is far different to what you'd expect based on that.

And as far as I can tell, there has only been jokey comments in here, and nothing needs to be edited.

You had to google to find out who Pamela Anderson and Megan Fox are?

I certainly had to google (well, wikipedia) to find out who Megan Fox was. 4 biggest guests ever? She wouldn't even make the top 4 of my "list of people called Fox I'd want to meet". Which goes to show what a funny old world it is.

That would have been me! It was said in jest, as even you have to admit, knowing the exact habits of any A list Hollywood actor, does come across as just a wee bit unusual. I can't imagine even Megan Fox would be able to tell you when her next free time is going to be.

Sorry if you felt offended by my comments, but in the paraphrased words of the immortal film director (and insurance salesman) Michael Winner " CALM DOWN DEAR, IT'S ONLY A FORUM"

You lot are all rude and unjust. I demand these hurtful comments are removed immediately by a moderator, otherwise I may need to seek counselling.

You'd be well advised to do that in any case!

Actually, I think the title of my new Sitcom can be amended to "Keiths Behaving Badly", the cameras follow Keiths Chegwin, Harris and Porter around in their day to day misdemeanors. It'd be a bit like the Chuckle Brothers, but probably not as funny in all honesty.
