Deap
I know I'm gonna get crap for this but as I am anal by nature I must say it. "The Legend Continues" Currently the tag line/slogan for Eclipse 2 Can anyone see an issue with this statement? "Legend" :-a nonhistorical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical. Obsolete. a collection of such stories or stories like them. "Continue" :-to go on after suspension or interruption, to cause to last or endure; Ok so there is a mixture of past and future tense. How, I ask Can something that is in the past and finite, Continue? What does this really matter. Well, It doesn't really but its not correct and that bothers me is all... Zarina
Pretty sure they mean "legendary" but "the legendary event continues" may sound too long for a slogan.
Deap
Pretty sure they mean "legendary" but "the legendary event continues" may sound too long for a slogan. I thought this may be the case too. In that case I would say they are being rather self righteous... Edited April 1, 2008 by Deap
Moderators DavidB Posted April 1, 2008 Moderators Share Posted April 1, 2008 Self righteous? What would you rather they put? "The event-that-isn't-too-bad continues!" "Eclipse 1 wasn't rubbish. Come to the second one!" "Want mediocrity? Eclipse 2 is for you!" It's called marketing.
Kenny
Legend doesn't have to relate to something overly historical, you can have 'modern day legends' and 'urban legends' to name a couple, even a living person can be described as a legend. The one I'd apply to this usage though would be 'legend in the making', which makes sense.
Oregon-snowglobe
I don't care what they call it as long as it chuffing happens!
fray101
"The legend continues" is an awfully common phrase (whether rightfully used or not) - this is over-analysing things just a bit, isn't it?

Come to the second one!" "Want mediocrity? Eclipse 2 is for you!" It's called marketing. In this day and age I would rather attend an event that can see itself for what it truly is. I would but the shirt where the tag-line is, "Eclipse 1 wasn't rubbish. Come to the second one!"

CosmicAvatar
I find it highly amusing that this is the first time I've seen this thread and I am wearing this very T-shirt as I type. And I'm happy to wear it in public too - pickiness over terminology be damned! I love DavidB's alternatives, though.
