What a Sell Out.

923197

All guests are subject to work commitments. This is always stated on each website for each event. Work is obviously their priority, and Ian's coming to a future event anyway so he's hardly a sell out.

923208

That's true but I'm sure they knew earlier funny how they got replacement so quick funny that the forums were down all weekend a lot of people can cancel hotels etc the week before but not now.

I wasn't going just for Ian but something doesn't ring true.

923240

And here me thinking the forum was down due to the amount of people on it!

Alot of hotels can be cancelled on the day before a certain time!

And if you think the forums were down because of this then you're just being stupid really. It always overloads at guest announcement time.

923244

How dare you call me stupid. yeah it over loads for a couple of hours but not for 3 days it doesn't.

923249

Far be it from me to stick up for David (he's old enough and ugly enough to look after himself :P), but he did say "if you think" as your previous post alluded to some deep dark conspiracy on SM’s part to avoid telling the truth. Presumably, you should then only take offence if you *did* think that… in which case I’d have to agree with him.

On the other hand, if you *didn’t* believe that the boards went down on purpose and that the SM PTB might actually have priorities at the weekend outside of the forums (for example trying to secure a suitable replacement for us and actually having lives), then his statement should not cause offence.

It would have been quite easy for SM to not bother telling us about the cancellation at all, choosing instead to leave it to the day of the event in order to collect ticket money from Ian’s fans. They didn’t do this and most hotels have a 24 hour cancellation policy (some as late as an hour before check-in), so chill out ^_^

EDIT - Oh my God, I just supported DB. Somebody PLEASE shoot me in case it's fatal!!

Just because I don't post all the time does not mean I don't read I only post when I have strong options.

923327

Well, as you have options you shouldn’t be too offended as I assume you also have a back up plan ^_^

I just don't like being called stupid that is all.

923327

Again, in fairness, he didn’t actually call you stupid, you just inferred it :P

I'm just making a point that is all a question saying it was funny I didn't say that defiantly was the case.

923327

Hang on; do you think it’s amusing or rebellious? The lack of punctuation in that sentence has confused me and I wouldn't want to jump to conclusions about something you hadn't said.

Seems like I can never question anything.

923327

Of course you can, just don't make silly assumptions or talk bollocks

To avoid further confusion, please note that I am not implying that you DID, I'm only suggesting that you DON'T.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear I'm not the best speller in the word.

What I meant was.

I think we might of all misunderstood each other a little bit. It is always good to question each other, maybe we should just all leave it as we are thankful that Ian is doing c9 so we have 2 lost guest there now.

OH NO! I have a friend who was travelling just to see him.. argh and she's booked her tickets and everything, oh no!

Can we still pre order for his autograph? We wont be able to attend the MK event :P

I just preordered his autograph, will I lose my money or will I just get an autograph from MK instead?  *worries* :(

*prays that robert wont cancel*

923172

Yes you can pre order his autograph for Milton Keynes, we can transfer your order for you but you need to contact us.

You should have received an email explaining the procedure, as everyone who ordered through the approved showmasters method was sent one tonight.

Anyone ordering through MSPG would be guaranteed a refund if the need arose.

Oh dear god, the temptation

Strangely enough, another site I frequent, on a completely different subject (music-sharing, actually), had a similar problem, the previous weekend. Database overload, and in such a way that as well as database repairs that the website people could do, there was also something that needed resetting at the server. Which is offsite with a separate company whom they pay to host their server. Much cheaper than doing it yourself unless you're a sizeable company with specialist IT staff. Unfortunately their hosting company only work 9-5, Mon-Fri, so since it happened at 6pm on Friday, they had to wait until Monday morning for somebody from their hosting company to come into the office and pick up the e-mail and problem reports. With webhosting being so competitive in terms of downward pressure on prices, I gather that this sort of lack of 24/7 tech support is not uncommon.

Don't know if such a situation applies in this case, but if it does, it would have been way out of the hands of SM to have done anything about it until Monday.

I didn't misunderstand anything, sweetheart.

Defiantly = to do something in a rebellious manner

Definitely = clearly defined; explicitly precise or indisputable; certain

In any case, at least Ian will now be at the longer event and more people will stand a chance of meeting him, even if they'll have to wait a little longer (plus he won't be locked away behind an entry fee  )

Good on him for coming to C9 though, which is right on my doorstep

EDIT: I just saw Jorge Garcia is the replacement so now im defintly still going

For chrissake!

4 days bleeding notice!

Bet you knew about this earlier!

There goes a £60 train ticket down the effing drain!

923390

I know it must be annoying, but it's always the risk with booking tickets for an event if you're going to just meet ONE guest which I assume you are based on your reaction.

Some people will have booked non-refundable hotels, non-refundable travel etc. That's their choice to take that risk. It's always stated about work commitments, and often regardless of WHEN the guest cancelled it wouldn't make a difference to some people!

It's no benefit to Showmasters to withold such information. Do you not think they'd want to advertise Jorge Garcia in advance if they could? After all, not all "Hurley" fans are "Boone" fans and vica versa. It's certainly not an ideal situation for them as much as you. Some people will probably just not bother coming now, or go to Manchester and do something else! And no doubt some people won't find out about Somerhalder's cancellation and SM's will have to deal with angry attendees.

It's perfectly understandable that people get annoyed about a guest cancelling, but accusing the organiser of witholding information etc isn't going to change anything unfortunately.

I was disappointed when John Schneider cancelled C8, as he was the main reason I went, but as has been said so often" Subject to work commitments". I was lucky there were other guests I wanted to meet.

It's not as if Ian has cancelled altogether, he has been announced for C9, and in what must be a first, We now have a guest appearing at both Manchester and London within several months of each other.

So those who cannot attend GMEX for Ian, now have the chance to meet him and Jorge at the same event.

FANTASTIC!!!!

I'm not attending G-Mex, and was gutted about missing out on Ian Somerhalder.....but how things have worked out perfectly  :headscratch:

I can attend London to meet Jorge......MK to meet Somerhalder

All is right with the world again

923261

Fantastic eh? Thats one of the most selfish things Ive read on here. Many people were going to Manchester to see him but who cares about them, aslong as YOU get to see everyone right!?

Things have worked out perfectly for you on this occassion, but I do hope someone you want to see one day pulls out of an event four days before and we'll see how you like it.

Things are not right in the world, not while people with your attitude are around.

If he's cancelled, darn well put it on the Gmex site!

923471

I have to agree on this one ! Unfair for people that don't look at the forum. It takes only a few minutes to add a note on the main page about his cancellation :headscratch:

When I question anything or get upset people just seem to get on my back why is everyone so nicey nicey to others who are unstandably more upset if they are going just for one person.

Yes work communiteds come first but even most work places give more notice.

That what made me question the fact showmasters might have know a lot longer in advance.

Nice to see that the GMex page still has Ian as attending.

Rake in the extra money from those going who know nothing about the forum, and Ian's cancellation.

Typical!

If he's cancelled, darn well put it on the Gmex site!

923471

Well they're not selling advanced tickets anymore, so the likelihood of raking in extra money between now and the event = slim to none, unless of course you're talking about Showmasters being in cohorts with every travel and hotel company to make them money? Then maybe it is some kind of conspiracy!

Should the cancellation be on there? Of course, but then so should the ADDITION which could bring them in extra money too! So they're losing out there. Not everyone can go to LFACC to see Garcia, so it could be a great opportunity for some but they just don't know about it!

its a shame that he's cancelled n obviously this has upset fans but it could be worse at least he is going to c9 so people still have an opportunity to meet him.

and as for showmasters only giving four days notice maybe a compromise was tried like Ian getting time off from work to still make the event, then when they found out this wasnt possible and he definately couldnt make the event then post that he's cancelled. also they might have wanted to confirm that Jorge was going instead so as to lessen the blow.

thats my opinion any way.

David,

the problem is not that they want to make money from Ian's fans or something. You're right, they should also announce Jorge Garcia ! I think this is a very important line-up change and most of the potential attendees should be aware of that. Of course Showmasters can't do anything about hotel or plane reservations but some fans of Ian might decide not to come, so they probably could save money on the day and maybe with their hotels (most hotels accept cancellation a few days before the date).

And I don't think it would take a lot of time to add a quick note about it on the main page. Just my opinion.

TBH in this case I feel it is because of the way you voiced your opinion that got peoples backs up.

Yes others have said "Why could they not have told us before". And have implied that SM have known for a while. This always happens with a cancellation at the last minute. We all expect people to be upset about it, and sympathise with them. I'm also sorry you're upset about it.

But you came on with what was a ludicrous conspiracy theory that SM purposefully took down the forum for 3 days so they didn't have to announce Ian's cancellation. I'm sorry but that is just a ridiculous suggestion and I believe that is why people may have come across as harsher towards you.
