Moderators etmuse Posted April 3, 2010 Moderators Share Posted April 3, 2010 I was on the fence about Matt Smith as the new Doctor - after watching 5x01, I have ZERO doubt left. I absolutely adored the episode, loved Matt's energy. And if the writing stays as high quality as this for the rest of the series, we're in for a good year!! adriangill
Orange Tardis aside, I enjoyed it. Impressed with Matt and Karen. The story was a strong start. One issue. Fish fingers will always be boring from now on unless...maybe...just once...
Avengers7
Had my reservations about Matt Smith - I thought he and Karen were excellent. However, I was unimpressed with the story, it was dreadful - however, that said, it looks like we have some excellent stories to come.

I know what you mean, I felt the same way too, but then I felt the same after 1.1 Rose. Not sure what they've done to the title music!
Moderators etmuse Posted April 3, 2010 Author Moderators Share Posted April 3, 2010 The title music was the only thing that I was disappointed with. Who knows, maybe it will grow on me.
TerraHawk
It's better in full http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/episodes...videos/p00765br Possibly more will be heard on TV if it starts in the next episode teaser
Moderators etmuse Posted April 3, 2010 Author Moderators Share Posted April 3, 2010 *nods* - listening to that full version I do like it better. They didn't give it time to get into it properly in today's episode.
adriangill
The new visuals distracted me from listening to the theme at the start, and the announcer talking at the end destroyed that attempt. Wish they wouldn't do that. A show ends after the credits have finished. If you must talk then that's what the gaps in between shows are for! Im-A-Future-Wombat
I really enjoyed it Originally like most I suppose I wasn't sure like most, if Matt would Play the Doctor well but I was wrong, If he continues like this then it will be great. The story-line I wasn't to sure about but I think there are good things to come. Karen was excellent too
timelord81r
right, well , I loved it. aside from my initial WTF reaction in the new doc confidential last year i always said matt might just be an inspired choice, and i think im right, he was just brilliant, he was the doctor, much more than tennant. I loved every line and delivery that came out of his mouth. i thought the script was great BUT the plot was very similar to smith and jones, take away the doc amy story line and it is basically smith and jones on earth. BUT this ep felt so magical and fresh u dont really notice it till u think about it after and i liked smith and jones anyway lol. karen was brilliant as amy, great character and hot, I even liked rory aswell, I loved the imagination and the feel of it. and although it was so lord of the rings i loved the axatri alien police. loved the past doctors bit loved how he beat then, when i saw the computer thing i though oh please no not a ID4 style virus upload, (rtd would of done that) i loved how clever it was but again after all that how they catch the alien is very like smith and jones. now the theme music and titles, humm I really dont know, i want to love it but im just not sure, as i said above online it sounds better with the middle 8 , in the ep it felt a little out of sync, i sorta like it but sorta dont. so bit confused, i guess im also disappointed there wasnt matts face ;-) the time vortex felt very slow also in it. humm, over all loved the episode, love the new doc so much and the next time coming soon trailer, wow, all looks so amazing. is it me though or is there a shot of toby jones dressed as the doctor in it? Don't think it was. You can't hear but the end title sequence is over very quick so I don't think there would have been time for the middle eight to play. TerraHawk
It wasn't in the credits, you can hear and (see!) the end titles in the I-player version. Don't forget in the RTD era most of the time the first 30 seconds of theme would be under the next episode teaser. When teasers had their own music it would mess up the music duration. So hopefully thats what happened here.
adriangill
....loved the past doctors bit...i guess im also disappointed there wasnt matts face....is it me though or is there a shot of toby jones dressed as the doctor in it? Also liked the previous Doctors montage followed by the "Hello, I'm The Doctor...basically...run". There hasn't been a face in the titles since Sylvester so no real surprise there. I have gotten used to that. No idea about Toby Jones but I thought I saw John Simms in the trailer. Had to go back and check it wasn't
sdog
It was definately Toby Jones though not sure if he was wearing the Doctor's clothes. I believe we have to wait for episode 7 to find out. Personally, I thought it was an excellent start - the plots of opening episodes are rarely the strong point, but it introduced the new team brilliantly. Looks like it could be a cracking series. BACYLON
The new version of the theme music sucks, it's like a version of the theme you would expect to hear on a £2.99 'sci-fi themes' CD.
Brockie76
Loved the new doctor, loved the new companian. i am so excited about the whole series!
Christoff
I enjoyed it, think Matt did well as the doctor, better than I thought he would, the new TARDIS is nice too and the rest of the series looks great They have ruined the theme though, what was with the lightning effects? It was too much noise on top of the music in my opinion. I just listened to the full version that was posted, and it's better than what aired, but still not as good as the previous version. KEVRAIL
I haven't actually seen this yet as I was in town when it aired but thanks to iplayer I'm going to catch up tonight. My first impressions are: Red head companion..................... Pretty, red head companion....................... Pretty, red head companion in a police woman uniform............. It's got my vote already! (I may add some more worthwhile observations later)
timelord81r
the scene on the roof top with the questions then "what you've got to ask yourself is what happened to them?" bit then "basically run" is just amazing, i keep re-watching it over and over also love the new doctor music (the one from the trailers) all the various versions of it in the ep work great. i think aside the silly music cues like the opening scene and the food scene the music was brilliant you know even though the baddie plot part of the ep was very similar to smith and jones, and I think you can tell its had a bit of a budget cut in regards the cgi (the effects were still good though) this episode felt so fresh and magical karen is brilliant and love her big wide eyes, how great was her reaction to matts perfectly delivered line "im a time traveler" matt is just amazing, i love his doctor already. how cool was the line "im def a mad man with a box" and that weird laugh after, loved it
Moderators etmuse Posted April 5, 2010 Author Moderators Share Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) There were so many great quotes from the episode. 'I've got twenty minutes to save the world and all I've got is a Post Office. And it's shut.' 'Hello. I'm the Doctor. Basically... Run' 'Beans are evil. Bad, bad, beans.' 'I'm saving the world. I need a decent shirt.' (I've already watched the episode through 4 times... I'm going to be able to recite it soon at this rate.) timelord81r
victory of the daleks? humm, I liked it but it was rushed, should of been a 2 parter, the whole way they kit out the spitfires for space in 5 minutes was ridicules also i dont mind the new daleks colours but why do they have bloody hunches and massive plastic looking mid sections? dont like that at all. i liked the way the daleks have been brought back especially having them as pure daleks, i like that they are taller also, and the fact that the whole RTD years daleks invading earth seems to of been wiped from amy;s memory, i do like things like that, why doesnt she know and who is she? when she told edwin she knows how he feels when he was like im a machine ect, somethings up with amy. mcniece as churchill? half good half bad, ive never been a massive fan of his acting, but he was ok. overall very enjoyable, but a bit rushed. and the crack appearing in every ep is annoying me, I dont like it, i didnt like torchwood and saxon being shoehorned into every episode either. if they are gonna do it, it should be discrete like in episode 1 not zoomed into like episode 2 or with a slow reveal in ep 3. but the big plus points to this new series is so far no bad or silly bits and smith is just SUPERB as is the way he is written! he really is forcing himself into second fav doc spot behind pat for me
Moderators etmuse Posted April 17, 2010 Author Moderators Share Posted April 17, 2010 I for one am utterly intrigued as to what the crack does/doesn't have to do with the whole 'Amy doesn't remember the Daleks and the planets in the sky' thing. (And is it just Amy that doesn't remember? Are there others?) Admittedly I giggled slightly at the rainbow Daleks... and the jammy dodger. I am still loving Eleven and Amy - they're coming together really well as a team, and I love the dynamic that's developing as they do.
