rob86uk
Hi all, Quite a big star trek fan and would love to go to this convention but have only ever been to one before a very long time ago. I don't have anyone to go with (or rather I don't have anyone to go with that enjoys star trek). Just wondered if it is worth me going as don't really fancy wandering around on my own like a lemon! Does anyone else go on their own? Thoughts??? Look forward to hearing from you! Rob
Queen_Sindel
We already have a quite similar topic here: http://showmastersonline.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=91325 Maybe it gives you some ideas.
rob86uk
Thanks but that topic is more about what to expect - I specifically wanted to know if anyone else has gone or is going on their own or if its the sort of thing where I'd just be on my own all day if I went on my own. I really want to go but don't really fancy the idea of wandering around on my own.
Count Fooku
I've been to several events like this on my own and never found it a problem. In many ways I almost prefer it as it means I can pretty much please myself when it comes to deciding what to do and when.
Raylenth
Agreed, I go to event's on my own and like Count says you don't have to contend with friends all wanting to do different shoots ect There will be tons of people there on their own, you won't feel odd -you won't have time to frankly. Just strike up a conversation with people you in the queues with.
Littlemisstrouble6179
I've been to several events on my own before and although the first time I was apprehensive I had a great time and found it great fun and spoke to loads of people in the queues. I'll be going to DST on my own as well and looking forward to it.
Moderators StuartG2198 Posted February 28, 2016 Moderators Share Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) Like others I only ever attend on my own, I actually can't imagine going to an event with someone now if I'm honest. The first show I attended on my own was DST in 2012 and I was absolutely fine as others have said you will end up just chatting to people in the queues, before the talks etc as we are all there for the same reason. Whenever I go to a show now I end up speaking to loads of people who I have met through being on this forum or jus doing shows over the years it's a great community, you'll be absolutely fine!! Tony1975
Same views as others. Sometimes I go with mates other times by myself. To be honest for me it doesn't make much difference as we often end up separating when we are there and doing our own thing.
Jamesmd85
I'm in the same position. I'm going down from Dunfermline on my own as I don't have any friends who are fans. This is my first ever convention and really looking forward to it. I'm sure I'll get talking to others as we all have a main similar interest.
rob86uk
Thanks everyone for the comments - reassuring to know that others go on their own and that they don't feel silly doing so. Also good to know that people often strike up conversation with people at talks and in queues. As it's my first convention (at least for a very long time) I just needed some friendly reassurance which you all very kindly provided - thanks! :-) You've given me the push I needed to buy a ticket - now got to decide which package to buy! Maybe see some of you there - be good to meet some fellow trek fans as, like Jamesmd85, I don't have any friends who are also fans.
Raylenth
James and Rob, you will both have a wonderful time. Just remember that one of the most important things is to know the schedule - work out where you need to be and when and speak to the crew straight away if there are any issue (don't like your photo from a shoot, have a big clash ect) as things cannot be rectified afterwards if you don't speak up - just take a deep breath and talk to people if the opportunity arises.
rob86uk
Thanks Raylenth - I'm sure we will. I'll try and talk to people if the opportunity arises as you say and hopefully they'll be friendly and I won't be on my own for too long! Does anyone know what the Friday night/Saturday night parties are like? Gd place to meet people and have some fun/chat etc?
robmoriarty
I'm sure you won't have any problems finding people to talk to, especially at the parties - I got chatting to quite a few last time including this one!
