Well im sure from a dealers point of view thatd be a disaster and its a small market for people who watch crime shows that would actually attend a con.The majority of folk who watch CSI etc wouldnt dream of attending a con whereas horror folk cant get( and dont )get enough in this country.

Times are tough for dealers and theyd make more out of horror folk who are usually at the high end of buying merchandise at shows.

Horror fans like to spend in my experiance and spend a lot as theres a lot more stuff out there.I know CSI fans dont JUST like CSI but horror is the safer bet.

Such is the fickle world of the tv show viewer, where once sat Lost magazine in my local newsagents now sits the Heroes mag and many see Heroes going the same way another season from now to be replaced by the next big thing.

Sure the Lost con may have sold a few tickets but these shows cannot compete with a whole GENRE and thats why a horror show is an odd omission.

That's why you have to strike while the iron's hot, no one will be inviting them to specialist conventions after their five minutes has passed.

Could you fit a whole genre into 4-12 guests?

I would have said though if there's enough of a market of CSI trading cards and signed collectables there's enough of market for events. Not my cup of tea though.

Just as well, I have enough cups already !

The four episodes are in production now and are expected to be aired some time in 2009 on UKTV's affiliated channel Dave.

Well theres the answer why i didnt know it was coming back.

As for organizers liking tv shows and putting on events because of this i fear with this forum being so tv orientated i reckon wed have a better chance of getting a Lazytown con than a horror one.

I don't know how aware you are of other event organisers, but there's a very common theme with conventions in this country, and that is that the majority are for TV shows. It's certainly not a Showmasters/Massive Events exclusive approach to conventions.

As to why this is, I suppose that's a debate that could go on for a long time. But if so many organisers choose to take that approach, there must be some validity to it. I'm certainly not saying ALL tv shows would be worthy of a convention as they wouldn't. It takes a certain popularity mixed with a certain type of fan to make it a success. And at the same time, there must be reasons why there isn't a regular horror con here unfortunately.

There is actually a horror con in this country, the website currently refers to last years con.

Can't post the site address, but think horror related words and you should find it no problem.

I think it's preddy damn cool! :P though a shame it's the weekend after C15 AND it's in BEDFORD - whyyyyy!!!!! :D

though more chance of me going as it's only Saturday and Sunday so there's no Fridays and Mondays involved, phew :D

as to CSI/Horror con debate, think if there was to be a CSI involved con, then it would likely be a CRIME con that way fans of NCIS Dexter Without a Trace Bones etc could all be happy ;) and don't forget that there are 3 different CSIs and there have never been any main cast guests of any of them to the UK, at a SM event or otherwise, which is why it could be popular :P Where as, SM and others have horror guests from time to time B) not to mention that there are SOO many horror movies, maybe it's just too much to tackle? how do they know which guests to approach? how to theme the con? which horror movies to focus on? with CSI is would certainly be alot easier to organise in terms of guests as there are only like 20 main cast guests and maybe 15 lab techs/other characters. I am not saying CSI guests would say yes, and this is likely why none have been to events over here :( but saying it's easier to focus on than allllllllllllllll the many many many horror movies that there have been over the years! B)

also, if you take alook at the CSI topic you will see pages and pages in the pinned discussion topic talking about a con and you only necessarilly need a few (2 or 3) hundred people to make it work, as evident with another event organiser and their smaller conventions

I don't think I can afford the hotel (not atm anyway) but meh, when I'm paid, I'm thinking I may get a ticket and just do one day if I have to- seeing them all together will be too good to miss!

Any group photoshoot? I can't remember what it was for the other shows... can you only get group shoot if you're a gold pass-er, or can you buy it separately? Cos If there is one, and it's only for gold, that may have made my decision for me...

Question, with this Red Dwarf convention, if you buy a £50 ticket for the weekend, do you have to go on both days or can you just go on the Sunday or the Saturday?

Thanks,

Mark

You can go on both days if you wanted or if you want to go on one particular day you can do that as well.

The schedule for the event is based around 2 days really, so there's never a guarantee that you'll get everything if you can only attend one day. So day tickets aren't available obviously

However if you have a word with crew at the event, they'll do what they can to get you through if it's needed.
