Showmasters Admin Too Tall Posted October 16, 2007 Showmasters Admin Share Posted October 16, 2007 My response to this is the same a some other "everyone should remember that Showmasters events are about variety". Just because you don't want to see a specific guest and can't see why anyone would does not mean there isn't a market for it. You maybe a huge Star Wars fan but the person next you may not be able to understand why on earth you'd want to get the autograph of a person that was in a film 30 years ago for 20 seconds in a rubber mask. You maybe a Star trek fan and that person next to you may not understand why you'd want to met a person that dressed in a very large baby romper suit and pretended to fly around the universe. To them it makes no sense there is a market for your fandom. To them you are as mad as a hatter! It's horses for courses. SM have obviously decided that "YES there is a market for Bill guests" or they wouldn't have got them. How big or small this market is we shall see. I agree with DB that having a couple of them will increase the likely hood of people getting them. They may have be thinking, "I'm not sure I want to have one Bill autograph in my collection", but then seeing they can have 3 or 4 all at once may sway them. Also to say that these guests are "fillers" or that they will be taking the place of someone you'd rather have is simply not true. Collectormania 12 currently has about 40 guests on the Saturday, at C11 we had over 50 guests on the Saturday and Sunday, there is plenty of room for more guests. They were the very finest one-piece-to-avoid-space-drafts-on-the-kidneys articles of clothing (and were generally two pieces anyway ), and were very practical for those long away missions (though the ever present question of toilets and space does raise it's head again!). To get back on topic, while there is no one at c12 I want to see except for a romper suit wearer, this lot will certainly grab a lot of passers by in much the same way Dirty Den did. Remember that in Milton Keynes a lot of people are in the centre for other reasons, and won't be at all impressed by 3rd stormtrooper from the left or rubber coated Dr Who alien. And they are classified as CULT TV on here? I guess that makes an offshoot of an offshoot of a movie that made its money on DVD sales and tv plays mainstream then does it? Granted I have no intention of getting any of The Bill cast's autographs, but to ridicule SM for getting folks with a wider recognition factor than Stargate Atlantis and class the ITV guys as 'cult' just beggars belief. Last year, I think it was, I got ridiculed for suggesting at the GMEX show, having Hollyoaks or Corrie folks. I could think of a couple of mags Roxanne McKee, Tina O'Brien and so on could sign, and for the ladies, Ken Barlow.. I'm sure if Ken Barlow did a book signing there'd be a few more present than if Michael Shanks did a book signing in Manchester on a wet Friday night. I'm not that fussed about Heroes either - it's an alright show, but I've got no interest in meeting them (except for George Takei). To be perfectly honest, you can fill the whole shopping centre with soap guests as far as I'm concerned, *as long as* SM also get Jeri Ryan along. PS : - I don't think Shanks will cancel this time, since his mate Chris Judge is coming as well. They're probably planning to go out on the tiles on the Saturday night - take in all that Milton Keynes has to offer. That should take about 30 mins then! Although talking to number of the ST crew I hear they were a bit wedgie-tastic at times Of course I did, hence the tongue poking blokey and please DON'T get Jeri thingy - it's bad enough seeing her on TV, I don't want to have to get within 50 feet of her 'in the flesh' as I may then have to curl up in a corner and sob. Going back to romper suits, why is it that you see the men fiddling with them all the time (ST:NG, all that top tugging) but the women have to trot around in much tighter ones AND heels without re-adjusting (I know wher this is going but don't take the bait!). It would be great if we could get Christopher Ellison and Mark Powley! I'm not a big fan of The Bill particularly, but I quite like some of the actors for other roles that they done. In fact if they got Gillian Taylforth and Gary Lucy it could be the start of a Footballers Wives Reunion as well and all you would really need is the fantastic Zoe Lucker! Hint! Hint! I think it would probably be really popular especially if Showmasters stuck to popular duos or groups of actors from a show. For example Simon Gregson and Suranne Jones from Corrie would be good. If they were chosen carefully one actor could even still appeal to the regular Showmasters groupies for example Craig Charles for Red Dwarf and Corrie fans and he would be would be good with Eileen and Steve from Corrie.
