Showmasters Admin showmasters Posted April 19, 2010 Showmasters Admin Share Posted April 19, 2010 We are very pleased to announce our latest guest for Autographica SIMON WESTON OBE On 8 June 1982, he was with other members of his regiment on the ship the RFA Sir Galahad in Bluff Cove, just off the Falkland Islands, when it was bombed and set on fire by enemy Skyhawk fighters. The ship was carrying ammunition including phosphoric bombs and thousands of gallons of diesel and petrol. Twenty-two out of his platoon of thirty men were killed; all together the Welsh Guards lost forty-eight men and ninety-seven were injured. Weston survived with 46% burns, following which his face was barely recognisable. “My first encounter with a really low point was when they wheeled me into the transit hospital at RAF Lyneham and I passed my mother in the corridor and she said to my gran, "Oh mam, look at that poor boy" and I cried out "Mam, it's me!" And as she recognised my voice her face turned to stone. †

Will Jones
My eldest brother was in the RAMC (Royal Army Medcial Corps) during the Falklands conflict. Based in the UK for returning servicemen, he dealt with the psychiatric side of the injuries. I know he met a lot of aforementioned servicemen and women, but not sure if he met Simon. However, my brother was never so proud to be in the services when he saw how hard the injured servicemen battled to get better. Simon Weston has done so much for charities and is such a tribute to our brave servicemen and women. Edited April 20, 2010 by Will Jones
Nick
What a brilliant guest he will be. Can I ask, will he have profile photos of himself or falklands war images to sign, or both? Not sure where I could purchase appropriate pictures from, any ideas anyone? Thanks all

madmilburn
Saw him and was an absolute pleasure to meet, Reckon must've spent best part of 20minutes talking about all sorts things from a question about a possible incident at the Royal Tournement in one the filed gun messes, football (was going straight london 4 vase final with Whitley Bay), how he's talked to David Prowse and Kenny Bkaer and that the pair of them are real gentlemen, people who just sit on their bksides picking up dole money and how i couldn't live like that- cuase i've pride and rather work for a living. Great guest and easily my favourite guest at this event as proven by- me mam at home ringing me dad and says get ready for some Simon Weston worshipping. Top guest and so pleased took the time to meet him
