The Thank You Showmasters post

Well, another superb event from Showmasters.

Got all autographs and photos done with ease unlike other events where a whole day can pass just queuing for one thing.

The guests were superb and the talks (my personal best bit of these events) were very funny. Having the questions moderated is by far the best way of doing it. I know some people like to ask their question themselves but for the rest of the crowd it can be painful watching someone ask something inapropriate and then drag it out with half a dozen follow up questions. This system allows things to move at the right pace.

Having the roulette etc was a great idea for the parties too and gave an extra thing for those too ashamed to get on the dance floor.

The hotel was dire as noted elsewhere but I'd like to stress the staff were very good and I guess they are limited with what they can do about the standard of rooms.

All in all superb stuff and can't wait for 7.3

Special thanks to the crew who as usual make the event work.

My first event of the year and what an event to start off with. Everything Went so well. (Ok the wee fire Alarm thing mellow: )

However The talks were great. The guests even better all so fun. Got all my autos and photos with ease. Well run and planned out. So big that to all The Crew and everyone that put the event together.

This was my first Massive Events convention and it was excellent, all the guests were fantastic. The guest talks were a highlight, organising the questions prior to the talk is far better than the travelling microphone from LFCC's. Thank you to all at Massive Events and the guests for a great weekend.

My first massive events con and a real joy. The organisers and crew were polite and helpful, which makes a lovely change from other events were I felt like we were treated like naughty schoolchildren rather than paying adult customers. Having a trusted crew rather than unknown stewards works well.

Photos and autos were organised exceptionally well. It was great to not have to queue for ages - just pop up see if your numbers been called and if not go away for coffee, drink or chat.

Having a small room for photoshoots lessened the tension and stopped the need for someone to yell for quiet every 10 mins. A photographer who checks the photos was great and for the first time I got pics without my glasses reflecting light - thanks a lot!

I do disagree about the moderted talks. They lack spontaneity and for me, I find it easier to ask a question this way than to speak to guests at the auto queue - it's different for different folks. I think Joe was spot on when he said the questions were like journalism 101! Also given 5 male guests and 2 male orgnanisers could you really not have found a female crew member to read the questions! (If not, pm me, it's been part of my day job for years!). My suggestion would be to mix it up and have some one on hand to move things on if people hog. In my experience guests tend to deal with nutty questions or people who stick around for too long quite well. So some questions on slips and some from the floor would make for better coversations.

Another little suggestion - how about raffling 2 places at each guest encounter so that it's not just about the size of your wallet. I'd have been happy to pay say £5 for the chance to go to one but one look at the bids on Saturday and I knew it was out of my league.

I thought I'd put this up as Jason did ask for suggestions, which is part of that nice positive attitude that values us crazy people who come to the events and these are meant as constructive criticism and not complaints. My overriding impression is of a great event. The added extras of bronco, scalextrix, casino night, free 10 x 8s for signing, the montaged designs special made for the event, stick of rock, a well written programme, quiz, skits were very appreciated.

I will definitely be back for more!

Ooh, I thought of more to add.

Julie's skit on the Saturay afternoon was superb like last time and well done all those who got up and took part. I wish I had your confidence!

Also wanted to say it was good that Showmasters took on board what people said after the last one. It was excellent to know we could go to the talks ten minutes beforehand to be called in our group rather than people queuing for 2 hours beforehand. A far better way of loading the hall.

Firstly I'm glad you had a good time. I know we did :(

It's a real catch 22 with the Q&As. I don't think your idea of a bit of both is too bad. Maybe look at still getting people to write them in advance. We want to avoid the...

"When I was at....(30 secs)......... and you.....(2 mins)......and I......(45 secs)....do you remember that?" questions.

It's been mentioned before but the raffling off of 2 of the seats at the GEs I think is a good one. I'll mention this to Mark.

Hi there,

First, I'm glad that you had a nice time.

The idea about raffling 2 seats at the guest encounters is a fantastic one and one which we will adopt for future events. Thanks for that! :(

Personally, I like the idea, and it's been done at other events. However, I think you'll be lucky if they're only £5. My experience is that they are more in the £20-£30 range - dependent on the popularity of the guest.

I'd just like to add my thanks to Too Tall and all the crew members who were a real help to me and my mum(who was in a wheelchair) without all their assistance we migth have struggled to get everything done. The hotel itself wasn't be best for wheelchair access but I know that is out of your control. I thought you guys did a great job and as it was my first con I was sure what ot expect but we shall certainly consider another.

I would also like you to pass on our thanks to the photographer and all the guests who were so patient with us when having our photo's - and also all the other con going who didn't moan about the fact we got slipped in - we don't like queue jumping but with the access to the room being limited we did appreciate eveyone's help.

You're more than welcome Pam. See, I told you it would be OK :(

I'm glad you and your mum had a good time and that we were able to make the event as accessible as possible for you.

Thanks for coming back on the comments - again nice to be asked, listened to and replied to with a bit of respect.

If someone suggests something and it looks like it'll work better than what we currently do, we're always up for stealing using other peoples ideas :P

Pretty much exactly what Becs said! I thoroughly enjoyed this con but it would have been even more wonderful if I'd had a chance at a guest encounter with Joe :)

Thanks to the organisers and crew for making a con that ran so smoothly with relatively short queing and thanks to the guests for being incredibly friendly and entertaining. And hi to all those I met over the weekend. I have a hideously bad memory for names but a good memory for faces so please do come say hi to me at future cons :)

It's great talking to the brilliant crew, who are all so familiar now. They really are some of the nicest people. Especially when they offer you popcorn and then join in staring at Jason Momoa with you :)

oh, and yet again, another full set of pictures i am totally happy with. i always hated photos of myself before chevron 7, and now my 7.2 ones are great too...god bless soft lighting and all that! :D

thoroughly enjoyed the addition of the roulette and stuff on the saturday night. and it was rather interesting watching mark go on the roulette!

Hahaa, it made me laugh :)

Especially when my mum got a sort of.. Hitler looking Colin :)

He was a great guy though wasn't he? :)

It wasn't Hitler! It was supposed to be Charlie Chaplin with the bowler hat. Art is not exactly my strong point. *grins*

The devil was my favourite, which is why a lot of people got it! But thanks again, I'm glad!

Colin was a great guy. He really wanted to spend the weekend with the fans, which is the best kind of con guest!

Thanks to SM, Crew and other fans for making this a great con. Special thanks to the guests for wearing the red noses at the photo shoots, they are on the official Red Nose Day FB site now. Will be trying my damm hardest to come to C7.3 as it's only up the road from me. :YAHOO:

Con dancing was fantastic all 3 nights, and well done for Sunday after all the hassle you still managed to get the music on. :D
