nicky
I went to the Aliens Fan Club con in Shepperton Hotel back in 1999 and it was great. I'm sure the fanbase is even bigger 10 yrs later. Ralph Brown (who made a special effort for that specific con) and Colette Hiller attended in 1999 as did some FX guys, Harry Harris and his prop collection, the AVP game developers, the Alien War guys and the writers of The Aliens Colonial Marines Technical Manual book. There was a props display and some items were auctioned off at the end of the day. There's at least 4 proper films to cover including comics, games, toys and an expanded universe of one of the most suucessful movie franchises ever that has lasted 3 decades and spawned some of today's best film-makers and stars. With the addition of AVP movies, demand is still obviously going strong. Edited October 1, 2008 by nicky

MikeDonovan
I could have sworn I heard Nicky acknowledge a fourth movie just then .... Nicky's a bit more forgiving than I am - I don't even acknowledge the third movie. As far as I'm concerned, after the events in Aliens, Ripley & Hicks made it back to Earth, settled down, adopted Newt, and lived happy lives far away from the horror of LV-426. BondageBarbie
I'd pay good money to go to an Alien con. For some reason (usually lack of disposable income) I always manage to miss the guests at other events but it would be great to have a group of them together. Come on SM, please make it happen! And I think an Alien Quadrilogy con would be a brilliant idea, although I would definitely lean more towards the Aliens guests.

nicky
Joss Whedon (writer of Alien Resurrection) But Resurrection is crap??? Daniel isn't even an Alien fan I dont think(?), I think he prob just wanted a reason to post Whedon as a suggestion. If we're gonna have the writers I'd much rather meet the writers of the other films than Whedon anyday. Edited January 7, 2009 by nicky
Daniel
I love the Alien films . I have them all on DVD, Resurection included. Joss is the person who worked on any of the Alien movies I would like to meet most (and Sigourney Weaver but I don't think that is likely). MikeDonovan
Joss Whedon (writer of Alien Resurrection) But Resurrection is crap??? I remember watching the film (and this is from the perspective of someone who prefers to pretend Alien 3 never happened), and thinking "right. Winona Ryder's in it. That's good. Ron Perlman's in it. Also good. I'll give it a chance". And I'm not kidding, by the end of the film I felt like I'd been mugged. It wasn't quite the feeling I had after seeing the Phantom Menace for the first time - not quite like having your childhood violated from behind by a 60 year old man with 2 necks. But it was close. Let's put it this way - after that stupid Alien hybrid turned up on the screen, I suddenly felt an overwhelming need to have a shower. In the following 10 years my expectations have dropped dramatically. I saw Live Free Or Die Hard (Die Hard 4.0 is the campest title I've ever heard of), and I came out thinking "that wasn't as bad as I expected" just purely because my expectations were so low that if Bruce Willis had turned up and read poetry for 20 minutes I'd have been content. That's what films like Alien : Gimpotron have done to me. Edited January 8, 2009 by MikeDonovan
Matt2006
I love Alien 3, it's no Alien or Aliens but I still think it's a great sequal. Also I think it's visually stunning! But I share the same views with you about Resurrection. More Alien 3 guests please ....and Alien and Aliens

My alarm bells started ringing as early as the opening titles when we were treated to that awful cliched title card followed by that horrid brown/orange background of the stasis tube - the previous films always had the background as outer space. So Nicky what do you really think of the AVP films? I saw the first one, and just could be bothered watching the second, even with Reiko Aylesworth being in it. The only thing I liked about it was the idea of casting Lance Henriksen....

I saw the first one, and just could be bothered watching the second, even with Reiko Aylesworth being in it. The only thing I liked about it was the idea of casting Lance Henriksen.... I'd been waiting 14 yrs for AvP to be made and I consider us fans lucky that it actually got made in the end. We were even lucky to score PWSA as director, we could have had much worse ie The Strausses. The first film was only as good as we could realistically expect - it was major sc-fi fanboy sequel territory and no credible A list director would ever touch something like that so again, we're lucky we got PWSA. I actually think its OK and much better than AvP-R which was horrible.
