Namine
So...I'm in a bit of a pickle, I'm hopefully going to be able to go to LFCC this year, however, I have a huge question to ask the mods and to the peeps here in this forum. Last year, I took my MIB noisy cricket and neuralizer props (toy versions, not real things) and never got told off due to the fact that the noisy cricket doesn't have a orange or coloured tip, I'm wondering whether toy guns like cap guns or airsoft guns obviously unloaded would be fine to take into the convention, as I am planning to go as either Red Hood or Big Boss from metal gear solid 3 if I can go to LFCC. I'm totally not sure whether the rules have changed the last time I've went.
Queen_Sindel
Okay, first of all I need to say I am no expert and go what has been posted on here before. I honestly can't picture what a noisy cricket looks like right now, sorry. You may have got through okay because it just didn't look like a real weapon. EDIT after being able to get Google to work: yes, that noisy cricket would have been far away enough from looking like a real weapon to not require the tip. Anything looking like a real gun needs to have the orange tip for sure. I would definitely not bring a working airsoft gun, even with orange tip. You might know that it is unloaded - someone calling the Police "OMG, someone's carrying a gun into that Event!" will not know. Sebster118
I think I've seen some weapons at some events. A couple of friends had weapons (1 last summer LFCC, 1 at the recent Spring LFCC) but they kept them in their bags before and after the show, especially when travelling on the tube. Queen_Sindel
The rules for the Cosplay Masquerade are here: http://www.darkcleopro.com/cosplayterms.html 6. covers weapons pretty extensively. The part of what is allowed and what is not allowed can be used as a Guideline for the whole Event. So: airsoft gun a definite no, toy cap gun would be working under the restrictions given. Namine
Thanks Queen Sindel and Sebster118, I've managed to find my old toy gun with the orange tip and it's painted blue so it doesn't look like a normal gun. Appreciate all the help :)
Sebster118
Came across an article from another cosplay group that have some guidelines: Concerning guns, any that are unrealistic, toys, foam-firing (presumably without the foam) or clearly sci-fi based are acceptable. Realistic imitation firearms must have a coloured tip on the end of the muzzle, or part of it must be brightly coloured. Regardless of how realistic it looks, ensure they are hidden when travelling and be aware of your surroundings, attire and display of props to ignorant bystanders when outside. Failure to do so could cause problems for the event and the police. One of my cosplays will involve a video game light gun which could be considered a toy and brightly coloured. I will also keep this in my bag when I'm outside the Olympia (except when posing for photos, after which I'll put it back in the bag).
CrazyHorses
How about sword of protection, made out of plastic.
Sebster118
As a guideline, if the plastic's light enough (as light as LARP foam swords), it should be ok. If it's heavy, it is likely to be a no-no.
Queen_Sindel
Anything that can potentially hurt someone is a no. So heavy plastic would be out, correct.

If you break your legs in half you have more urgent trouble than a convention.
CrazyHorses
Anything that can potentially hurt someone is a no. So heavy plastic would be out, correct. It is foamy plastic so would be LARP. Can we ban stilletos as they hurt like hell if someone trods on your feet wearing them and Power Ranger helmets too, you can never tell what they are made out of, could be hard plastic. Foamy plastic should be okay. But ultimately the venue security will have the last word. Maybe try stepping on their feet with a high heel shoe and test their reaction if in doubt. Sebster118
I do see the funny side, but I think we're going a bit too far here. I think there's a Klingon proverb: "There are always weapons" Edited April 14, 2016 by Sebster118

KizamiZuki
Okay, on the same note, I've made Captain America's shield from a satellite dish. It's aluminium so pretty light and I've glued foam around the edge so there's no danger of accidentally scraping against someone. Does that sound safe enough? I promise not to frisbee it across the hall :)
Queen_Sindel
Sorry, but you are getting really specific now. I will try to refer out cosplay specialist to this thread. I would say it is okay (especially because I remember seeing other Captain America cosplays before), but neither me or the other mods are experts. Namine
xD. That's just my opinion. I don't think they'd allow that to be brought into the convention itself. I could be wrong though.

Helara
I seriously recommend taking a bag to store prop weapons in for going on public transport. It may sound hilarious but I have heard of cosplayers getting arrested for having realistic props walking around and concerned citizens calling the police and have armed personnel turn up. Not a situation you want to find yourself in. I did for the spring LFCC when I had only a few prop weapons and I will be for my second day in the summer LFCC because I have all of the prop guns and knives I need for Winter Soldier (two combat knives, fighting knife, two pistols, one Scorpion and my prop M4 sure I haven't missed anything) so if I were to walk around outside the convention with all that and my mask on I can expect a bit of bother!
