His Aurora 7 spacecraft attained a maximum altitude of 164 miles (264 km) and an orbital velocity of 17,532 miles per hour Carpenter was the first American astronaut to eat solid food in space one famous quote Speaking from the blockhouse at the launch of Friendship 7 , Scott Carpenter said "Godspeed, John Glenn," as then Lieutenant Colonel John H. Hi There Scott Carpenter will be there and is as confirmed as i can possibly make it. I have spoken to Scott and Pattie and they have confirmed they will be. There seems to be a certain paranoia about who we have got and who we havn't. I don,t really care who says what about who if i say we have a guest we have him. Good enough !!!!!
