Liking the idea of a Moulin Rouge theme and the masquerade/labyrinth Ball.

Actually, that sounds pretty awesome!!

it does, but I personally can't see the link to Torchwood, and I'd rather have a theme related to Torchwood rather than just a cool one :P

What you guys dont understand is the party themes are like a guest anouncement for SM.

They dont announce a guest before they have everything confirmed and in order, and its the same with the themes now.

You saw (or maybe heard) how much stuff they set up for each party last time, so untill they have all that stuff sorted and locked down for the themes they have picked, they wont tell us.

If they did, and then stuff fell through and they changed the theme, you guys would all be annoyed that you had started/bought costumes for one theme and it was now another.

So just let SM get all their cool stuff for the parties sorted, they will announce them as soon as they have everything 100% sorted and awesome for us

I think we do get that but SM must understand as well that getting costumes together takes time and money as well.

Why are partys for next year all sorted but a event that is only 11 weeks away doesn't

I know I keep going on but it's getting to the point that ther is no way can dress up the the partys and that sucks cause I love the partys.

I get SM are bussy with so many events going on but so are people who are going to the events.

Maybe the themes are sorted for other events because it is just a theme for the people going in costume, and SM arnt getting anything set up for those ones.

And I know making costumes takes awhile, but as it is just for one night, maybe people can consider just buying what they need instead of making it.

I wouldnt go all out and make a brand new costumes JUST for the themes at an event. I reserve that sort of costuming for ones I will wear at various events.

With the themes I either modify or use an existing costume I have, or come up with something simple.

Um, I didnt mean spend loads. If your that into costumes surely you have plenty of stuff from previous ones to make up something that fits the themes, with maybe 1 or 2 new things that you could oick up from say a chrity shop or something.

I spent £4 last year getting a purple waist coat off ebay so I could do my Joker costume for the carnival theme. I had a black suit and shoes already, and I had a green shirt and purple tie.

It really isnt that expensive or hard to do a costume on short notice if you pick the right one.

But have you considered that a lot of us aren't 'that into' costumes? The only times I've done fancy dress type parties for years now are at The Hub. So no I personally don't have a supply of clothing that can be turned into costumes at very short notice.

I understand that you're not worried about the themes and sorting out your costume because you feel confident in your ability to do so quickly, but please consider that other people don't share your confidence and optimism and like to have more time to put things together.

Personally I'm not too worried about when the themes are announced, although I would prefer sooner rather than later, but other people are and telling them that I'm not worried so they shouldn't be either isn't going to help them or change how they feel.

I agree I enjoy dressing up at the partys but they are the only time I do fancy dress so I don't have a lot of stuff I can easily put together and presto have a costume ready.

Noy evry one has easy access to the type of shops that they could get costumes from because of work or college so all I and others are saying is the sooner they are announced the better.

I have to agree with Bexy here, as making costumes takes a long time, and those of us without the creative ability to make costumes have to go buy them, which can cost a lot (my costumes for the Hub 2 [including military coat, admittedly] cost me over £200) which I could only afford because it was so soon after xmas so my Jan paycheck was big for me), so we need a couple of months notice so that we can budget from paychecks...

I've not got a stock of costumes either, so I'm going to have issues finding the money to put together anything particularly exciting at this rate

I'm not nagging Showmasters, as I really appreciate everything they do to organise the events and both Hubs have been amazing, but we are getting to what can be called 'short notice'... so please consider this a polite request, at least for some reassurance that the themes are being organised and will be released soon...

Ah but im not that skilled at making costumes either. My point was that I dont consider costumes for a party like these to be the best times to try and do skillful, complicated and time-consuming costumes.

Its a party, there is drinking (or people with drink if your not a drinker), dancing, socialising and having fun. Some costumes (the ones that take while to do and are 'hard' to wear) are not the ones I would choose to do and wear for a party.

There would be too many things that could make it uncomfortable to wear or easily damaged or too hot for me to do a costume that takes a lot of prep to make.

Hence not worrying myself, as I think doing an whole elaborate costume is a bit, not wasted but would be better suited for another event (wher eyou would be in it longer and such).

I will be doing costumes for the themes, but eitehr ones I have made to fit the themes or ones that dont need me to worry about making them. I want to feel comfortable at a party rather than worrying about doing and wearing my costume. Id rather feel like I wasnt wearing one at all at a party.

I know last year after about an hour I took my Joker make-up off because it was more of a hinderence in the party than a help.

I think people should really weigh up costumes they would LIKE to do against what would be realistic for an event like this.

I feel you missed my point a little.

My point was that while you are confident in your ability to throw together a costume that you'll be happy with in a short space of time with only a small amount of money, other people clearly aren't and have every right to be concerned that they won't have enough time. Telling them how you feel isn't going to change things for them.

Nobody is being rude (as far as I can see) but are politely asking if there is a chance of the themes being announced soon. They're not bothering you so let them do so.

I also have to point out that just because someone spends a lot of time or money on their costume doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be making something impractical or uncomfortable. It's possible to spend a lot of money on very simple things sometimes.

Fair enough lol Didnt mean to be rude or anything (hope I wasnt). Just I know how much work SM put into these events (I have slowly and very basically started to be on the 'working' side of events now)

As with any announcements they make on here, they do it as and when they are ready. No amount of us asking them will get them to announce them before they are ready to.

I thought this thread was for peopel to suggest themes, not just keep saying 'Can we have them now' every few days.

Just relax and be patient, SM will announce the themes when the time is right and they will all be awesome, I'm sure.

P.S Last year they were announced pretty close to the event, yet at the actual parties I saw loads of very cool costumes. Has everyone forgotten that as a group we can still make soem damn good stuff at short notice :D lol

Fair enough :)

Yeah I think the thread is supposed to be about theme suggestions, but it's always going to eventually turn into people asking when they're going to be announced because after a certain amount of time the regulars have suggested everything they can think of and are left with nothing better to do. The same way people will start asking when more guest announcements are coming, etc.

I'm very aware of how much work SM must put into these things, and I really do applaud them because no matter what happens they always come up with a great event.

I'm really looking forward to the Hub 3 regardless of when or what the party themes are because I know it'll be awesome

I'd quite like a 'fallen through time' theme because its soooo widespread anyone could put anything together very cheaply and quickly. the general idea being you have fallen through the rift from another time (or planet) and you come in costume from any era you like (past or futureistic).

if the themes are anything specific like 80s we need to know them asap so we can push costumes together. if its widespread there will be much less of an issue.

Well I never thought the themes woudl always have to be torchwood related, but I suppose it would make more sense.

Although on a side note, how are 'decade' themes specific and not wide, especially later one slike 70s or 80s

Think of how many bands, films, tv shows, fashions and famous people there are to cosplay from just one decade.

'Fallen through time' gets my vote though, that opens up a wide selection...and gives me the chance to use a costume I already have lol
