At the end of the day, we have all voiced our opinions about JCB, William Sh!tner oops Shatner but will it make any difference to him at all. This most likely will be his last convention in the UK before he pegs it, if not, well we shall see what he does then.

hey guys,

i would just like to say one thing.

at least you got to meet/see him.

i was supposed to be both attending and crewing the event but was taken into hospital the night before i was due to leave so i missed him, majele barrette and nick stahl.

i have been to many cons and outo signings so i have learned not to get my hopes up about guests.

personaly i hope all of these guests come back so that i might get a chance to meet them.

lots of love

sarah

He ows us nothing, nearly everyone on here was told by one person or another that he was like this.

And in the end you where not brain washed into handing out £25 a pop.

Shatner is a good guest but he is the way he is and he has always been that way every time i have seen him. COLD

The story is, and these are rumors so please don't kill me if I'm wrong: William Shatner cancelled the German convention because this convention was financialy more interesting. And that hurts......

I sure hope that is nothing more than a rumour!

879628[/snapback]

Yes, it is nothing more than a rumour, since the official reason provided for Mr. Shatners cancellation was that he had some work commitments and was not capable of fulfilling his German obligations.

But in the wake of what happened next, this rumour turns out to be a bit more than that, since the next thing we see is Mr. Shatner signing up for three days at CollectorMania. In the same weekend he was originally scheduled to appear in Germany.

Now it is well known that Mr. Shatner is not going to conventions to socialise with fans (after 40+ years of doing that I can imagine he's not particularly keen on doing that anymore), but that is the purpose of the German convention. Not so at CM, that's as its name indicates a Collector's trade fair. THat could be the explanation but it still is a slap in the face of the German and Dutch fans who hoped to meet him in Neuss and who purchased tickets in advance for this.

The two times I met Mr. Shatner he was polite but nothing more. He replied when spoken to and he shook hands when invited to. Not overly cordial, but again, after so many years seeing it all, doing it all and hearing it all I can forgive him something.

Sounds like he really could!! No wonder people call Marina "the Queen of the Convention" when she makes a genuine effort to be nice to the people who come to meet her at events (well, in my experience, anyway). Collectormania was the 5th time I've met her (unless internet chats count), and she not only remembered me from the website (despite going online disappointingly rarely!) but also liked the cartoon pictures of Deanna Troi that I gave her, and even hugged me!  Apparently she went for coffee with two other fans from the website before I got there, as well. Now that's better than getting an autograph where you don't even see the star signing it, I must say...! (That said, Marina's queue was probably less busy - when I was there, I *was* the queue...!!)

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Marina twice at CM8, once when I got her autograph :P then again outside when she and I were having a fly ciggie :P She took time to sign autographs for people going into the centre (despite a collectormania staffer reminding her that they should be paying for the autographs  ) She just told everyone that "I'm just like everyone here, I'm common I am" Which got a rousing laugh from the hastily assembled crowd. She also plugged her "blink and you'll miss it" role in Crash :o My friends and I went to see the film that night, and we all must have blinked at exactly the same moment

But she truly is a pro, and a kind and generous soul at that.

I repeat my earlier statement, shatner could learn a lot from her!

Oh, btw, here's a sneaky photo of her, with ciggie stealthily stashed behind her back :o

Excert from an interview with the Shatner in todays Metro:

Interviewer: What's your relationship like with the Star Trek fans?

Shatner: It's really good actually. I hug every one of them. You've got to be

careful, though, so I wear rubber gloves, ha ha ha.

I know this is a bit late, but I spoke with some people at autographica.

Firstly, Shatner speaking with people.

He was a busy person, but he was also the type of person who wanted you to initiate a conversation. Therfore those of you who complained he didnt speak to you. If im not wrong, if he didnt speak to you, its probrabally coz u didnt speak to him first.

Secondly, handshakes etc.

Mr. Shatner was willing to have contact with people but only knuckles to knuckles. His reason for this is he is in his 70's and is still working full-time, if he gets ill then it will cost him alot. And if you imagine the number of people that wanted to see him, he did not want to become ill and so that was his reasoning.

There must of been a good reason why Snather didn't personlise or pose for pics. there was no need for that behaviour. I'm amazed you didn't get banned from the event.

When I was at a Trek event a couple of years ago Kate Mulgrew was doing the same thing but no one complained as it was understanded that she was trying to sign for as many people as possible.

Sorry, that's not true.... I tried to engage him in brief conversation, as did a bunch of other people.. he didn't even look at us when we spoke, let ALONE actually reply...

I apologise for that then. I was just speaking from various conversations I had with visitors and people who were crewing his area, saying that he did.

I have no answer to your upset in that case.

Well, why wouldn't she, hmm?

Any celeb who likes/wants an audience for their acting work and public appearances with any sense at all would be at least moderately civil to their followers, right...? And having met her 5 times I'm now pretty sure Marina goes beyond "moderately civil", which can only be a good thing. She doesn't have that "I'm famous, you're not, therefore you're inferior" attitude some people expect stars to have. Either that, or she does a bloody good job of hiding it!! :D (lol)

[As for her internet forum...well, that's another story I shan't burden you all with. :uhoh: ]

~St*r [star Wars is kind of boring apart from :yoda: !]
