TommyT
do you need your birth certificate if you have a new job cause im supposed to be starting a nice highly paid job wednesday and was told i need it, my house is now a state from reaging and looking.did you need one? 854329[/snapback] Who told you that you needed it? If it's one of your mates, I wouldn't worry. If it's your new employer, then time to make alternative plans. I've never needed my birth cert when starting a job, but it has been a while, and in these times of increased paranoia... I would suggest as evidence of your date of birth you take along new-style (photo) Driving Licence and/or passport (preferably both). Then something like a utility bill or bank statement to prove your address (try not to take the bank statement along that has your monthly DD debit for "The Sheep Abuser's Journal" showing ). They usually want the P45 from your last job too (but that's in your interest too, as otherwise you'll be paying emergency (elevated) tax until your tax coding gets sorted out). I can't think of any specialist job where they would have to see your birth cert rather than passport etc, but no doubt there are a few. (Archivist for one - not because they need to see your birth cert, but because it's a good test of your personal filing and archiving!)
theoden_of_rohan
No, I can't remember having to need a birth certificate for a job...just ID, National Insurance blah blah blah Oh, and a passport for a couple of them
feralmoggy
I huess my employers have always been exceedingly trusting of me. Unless its a gov or security job I don't see why they need you birth certificate. If they need proof of your birth just stand in front of them howver if they want proof of your birth date I don't see why a passport wouldn't do! luvme7754
Like everyone has said, they probably just want proof of identity - that sort of thing. So something like a drivers license or passport should do

Or did you turn up with alternative documentation? If so, was it accepted, at least provisionally? Or were you unceremoniously drummed out on your keister? Don't leave us in suspense mate, spill the beans!
