  1. is it one of those strange anomalies of life, that you either love movies OR you love football but not both? i know there are exceptions, but do most film fans feel that way? i am a movie fan as far back as i can remember, but never had any interest in football, despite having brothers and my dad who were mad on it.to this day i have never been to a football match and have no desire to.each to their own i suppose, but its funny that these two interests seem rarely to mix.i know lots of footie fans...none like sci-fi......and vice versa. i wonder if the sportsmania fans only go to cons to meet the sports stars and give the actors a miss? i must say,i have given the sports lot a wide berth, but did get a couple of autographs for friends/family; sir stirling moss, lester piggot(for my dad!) and on one occasion,i did meet the late henry cooper...because i like boxing. come to think of it,i dont recall ever seeing someone wearing a football shirt at a convention....lol
  2. would be interested to hear how far people are travelling for the convention - foreign or domestic.its a sure sign of the dedicated fan, that they will travel great distances to attend these (amazing) conventions. personally i have only ventured as far as manchester for one, even a die hard movie buff like me couldn`t quite bring myself to trek all the way up to glasgow.but i know there are lots of people who even come from abroad for the cons. so convention fans..............have you got an early start this weekend?
  3. i have several action figures signed over the years, and all of them signed in sharpie on the plastic blister pack and all still look fine.just make sure the surface is flat, and that your pen is good...in my experience sharpies never let you down.i will definitely be getting a signed amy pond figure.
  4. the excitement is surely reaching fever pitch like never before for a convention.london film and comic con 2011 looks like being THE convention by which all future cons will be judged.it wil be a case of; "were you there?" and if not why not? get set for a classic weekender movie fans.but don`t leave anything to chance on this one......there are so many fabulous guests, but methinks you will need military style precision to negotiate your way through the times of the signing sessions together with the talks and the photo shoots...lol.....it`s not for the faint hearted(even an old con veteran like me is making a list.....something i never do!)......you don`t want to be disappointed...lol
  5. i hope the auctions this time around are gonna be better than previous ones i have attended which have mainly consisted of mugs and t shirts......................
  6. just a query...i have bought advance tickets for the karen gillan photo shoot and talk, but might have to leave the convention early now because of work commitments(typical!!) and probably wont have time to attend them.is it possible for the organisers to resell the tickets on my behalf on the day? there certainly will be no shortage of people looking to buy them on the day for these events,so i know they would definitely sell. i am not building my hopes,i just didn`t know if you did that.so thought i would ask.
  7. anyone else here been wondering wether there will be enough hours in the day for karen gillan to get through all her signing, her talk, and photoshoot??...i have....and it seems a bit stretched to say the least.i got my ticket through for the photoshoot for example, and i am number 740!..and i bought my ticket a few weeks ago.add to that the enormous queue i can almost see already.....despite having an early bird ticket, looks like its gonna be a bunfight for the virtual queueing tickets come 9am!!..........this has shades of hayden panettiere back in 2007. looks like its gonna be an interesting one............lol
  8. thus far; karen gillan(photoshoot/talk/plus 5 autographed items....rather an expensive one that...lol) sylvia anderson(legend!) derek jacobi( I claudius...top notch) christopher lloyd(for cuckoos nest interest) walter koenig(another sci-fi legend,my 4th TOS guest....VERY excited by this) cliver barker(for a certain film we all know..........no...not "nightbreed"...lol) ashley laurence(as above) nicholas vince(as above) lisa marie(my tim burton interest) stephen furst("toga..toga!!"........those of a certain age will know this reference) sophie aldred(ace was so cute.....i fancied her) ....and er...the batmobile and monkeemobile....lol
  9. just want to say a big thank you to the organisers of LFCC for what promises to be one of the best events yet in july, and with a fabulous line up of guests to really get excited about.its gonna be a great weekend. bring it on!!
  10. however much you are planning to spend...you will almost certainly spend more. take a camera...plenty of ops for photos, and definitely take a folder to put your autographs in.and i take a tube with me,in case i buy posters or larger rolled items.a smallish daypack is ideal to carry the whole lot.
  11. i would be very surprised to see christopher lee at an event like this now.i think its very wishful thinking. he looked pretty frail at a recent awards event i saw.i dont think he has been very well lately.i was lucky enough to meet him some years ago at a signing.and was due to meet him again last year at an event, but which he,unfortunately pulled out of at short notice. i think even if he did attend,i couldn`t imagine him signing all day.i think it would be a few hours at most.
  12. theres nothing wrong with it atall, unless you consider paying your respects to someone you admire creepy. i have visited several graves over the years,in various countries.and its my intention one day to visit the grave of my favourite actor james cagney.on a future visit to the states to pay my respects.
  13. stan lee....yes please...legend!! would love to meet him,and at £30 would have thought that was a bargain to meet a childhood comic hero. others on that list a bit of a grey are though....£55 for hayden christensen?? are you sure this poll isn`t more about finding out how deep the fans will dig, than about what guests they want?? sorry to sound cynical. i do like the poll idea in general though, gives the fans the chance to choose the guests they want to see.just not so sure about the figures.
  14. i have been hoping to see a horror con here for years.they have them all the time in the states.and just think of the great guests you could have.i would definitely be at that event.
  15. i am totally with you guys on this one,i always wondered why we hardly ever see apes at the cons.its a total no brainer.if i was gonna do cosplay, thats exactly the character i would do(well, that or a stormtrooper.....uber cool),for two reasons;one is looks about as cool as you can get,and two, nobody else bothers to do characters from POTA.i have only seen apes at one con in the last four years, and that was at birmingham this year....i didnt even manage to get a photo either which i really wanted.......they must have disappeared into the forbidden zone...lol GO APE!!
  16. great to see the wookie at cm17...some good photo ops for that one. who was the person under all the fur?......funnily enough i saw too tall walking around...he would have been ideal for that costume...he would have given peter mayhew a run for his money...lol
  17. i went on the saturday, and have to say it was a pretty good event,i thought it seemed somewhat quieter than i had seen it previously, but maybe that was down to it being a bank holiday weekend, and lots of people who otherwise might have attended had gone away.i think the sooner they get the event indoors there though the better for everyone,i know its down to the builders so no fault of the organisers.it was blowing a gale and must have been pretty cold if you were sitting there all day.but fortunately the shuttle bus was on hand to warm you up if you sat upstairs,as the heating was on and it was about 100 degrees in there...lol i only had two people i wanted to meet on saturday;jill curzon and david warner, who were both delightful. many thanks to the staff, all doing a great job as usual,no doubt overworked and underpaid....lol and how considerate of the organisers to even lay on a football match to watch that afternoon for those who wanted to sit down and chill out.lol heres looking forward to LFCC in july............
  18. did any star trek fans meet marianna hill today? she was one person i would really like to have met,but i could only get to the con yesterday,so never got the chance to.if anyone has a photo of her at the event would love to see it.
  19. There are any number of reasons as to why. A busy queue can be one of the those. Another example would be somebody like Gates McFadden who is sensitive to flash photography and suffers from migraines as a result. Others may suffer from a back injury which would no doubt be aggravated from the constant getting up and down. At the end of the day the sign (and request) is there for a reason. It's just that the reason may not be apparent. yes, thats a fair comment.
  20. saw the arnie terminator guy at the con today.....this guy is hilarious....he has the voice to a T. today was the first time i have seen him without his arnie mask on and out of character.hes great fun and always makes me laugh at the conventions. nice one arnie!!
  21. That was the only complaint I'd have for today, really. I asked for a photo with her before that notice went up, she very politely declined, but I wasn't bothered cos I had the photoshoot later. By the time I went to see John deLancie the notice was on the board - but Nicole posed for a photo with someone while I was at his desk. Huh? Then I asked if I could have a photo with John. He said yes, but his minder lady said no. yes, whats the deal with some people saying no posed photos???......if they have a queue a mile long i can understand it......but not otherwise.i find it rather rude to the fans that some will take your money to sign a photo, but not give you five seconds to have a photo.its not like you are asking them to donate a kidney........
  22. good turnout of star trek TOS girls at the con today, saw some nice costumes, even spotted a rare sighting of a girl in the kirk colours!...lol way to go the TOS girls!
  23. met david warner for the first time at the con today, and really must say what a thoroughly nice bloke he is. his filmography alone is impressive; the omen, titanic, planet of the apes, tron, time bandits, and the star trek franchise to name but a few.as well as the films he made with the late great american director sam peckinpah including;straw dogs, ballad of cable hogue and cross of iron, which are my own favourites of his work. he remains a totally down to earth guy,and loves to meet the fans and is more than happy to chat about his career,as indeed i did with him today.he couldn`t have been nicer,it was a real pleasure to meet him finally, and made my day. looking forward to meeting him again at a future convention.
  24. does anyone else get slightly depressed seeing clips on youtube of dream convention guests in the u.s. that never do cons here? examples being; adam west and burt ward(now that really would be something!),mark hamill, cassandra peterson - aka - elvira, bruce campbell, nichelle nicholls, cast members from classic sci-fi tv shows like "lost in space",and "land of the giants",etc - to name a few,and all of whom make regular appearances at u.s. conventions.i appreciate some probably want too much money to make the trip,or just don`t want to travel that far.but we never get to see any of these guys here. they say all good things come to those who wait, maybe we just have to play the waiting game............
  25. apparently jedi has been recognised as a religion,at least by those involved in the official 2011 census. in 2001,the first time the questionaire contaned a voluntary question about faith, almost 400,000 people claimed they were followers of the movement.glen watson, census director said "if people really want to express thier religious affiliation in a particular way, the`re within their rights to do so.we would process that information, and include it in the results." "i don`t think we would persue someone for declaring their religion as say, jedi" and well you should not.......!
