  1. Dave, You are so right and a lot of people will be grateful to you now and in the future. I found your posting here to be very interesting and had never heard that you once had Pete Conrad signed up. But what you say above can be no better argument for bringing Stafford over, right now
  2. It is stated that his prices will have parity with the recent ASF mail in prices. let's not forget that they had additional mission fee of $30 (=£18). So could we be paying even higher than £170? By the way, I am not complaining, just trying to figure out the amount of cash to take. I am delighted he is coming. I just keep saying to myself (rather smugly) that I am being pretty generous this year with my charitable donations!
  3. I think these estimates will be pretty close to the mark. The big unknown is General Stafford's fees, although I am optimistic that they will be lower than the recent ASF mail in at a base fee of $275 (£173).
  4. I agree. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have Alexei and make it an ASTP Commanders Reunion?! I havn't heard anything further about Alexei's health recently. Anybody have the latest on that?
  5. Tom Stafford! What an achievement. Dave, you have pulled off the almost impossible. Very well done.
  6. Well spotted and thanks for communicating. That is one very welcome guest.
  7. How on earth can you imply that the forthcoming Autographica might fall into a 'not so good' category? We have two astronauts from Apollo 15 attending - arguably one of the best Apollo missions ever. Dave Phillips deserves encouragement and plaudits, instead of the conrinued carping which he and the rest of the team have unfairly levelled at them.
  8. prendy9160 has made a request which I hope Showmasters will consider carefully. The presence of cosmonauts was a unique feature of Autographica and even gave the show an edge over similar type events staged over the Pond. A number of cosmonauts have attended events in Germany this year, so the problems relating to the granting of visas should no longer be an issue (unless, of course, the problem lay with the British Immigration authorities).
  9. I was never a fan of Michael Jackson. However, I do recognise his MASSIVE TALENT and I can appreciate how much he will be missed by an equally massive fan base. R.I.P. Michael.
  10. I just noticed that on Al Worden's website, he indicates that he is going to be at Autographica in September. See: http://www.alworden.com/appearances.htm Perhaps Dave Scott will join him for a (partial) Apollo XV reunion.
  11. Nice one Dave. Very many thanks for the information.
  12. Thanks for your positivity. Your statement is very reassuring. This kind of posting was all that was required from Showmasters.
  13. That's a great suggeston., coming up with tennis greats. Let's have Ginnie Wade, the last Brit to win Wimbledon. (until 2009:YAHOO: )
  14. I agree entirely with the thoughts posted above. I could have made an early cheap booking on flights, but I am not prepared to go ahead until I hear something positive. I am beginning to have my doubts. These doubts could easily be put to rest by a simple statement from Showmasters.
  15. Millvena R.I.P. I was one of many fortunate people who had the opportunity to meet her a number of years ago. Thank you, Showmaster, for that opportunity.
  16. Not wanting to get into an argument, but you did delete my post yesterday in the pre-order thread which was merely constructive criticism and I don't think it was over the top at all. But you are WAY better than that other lot of glompers! This is just a genuine request for a bit of information. I have always understood 'Showmasters' to be Dave and Jason - two first rate guys with whom you can interact and to whom you can submit questions and get helpful answers. However, it cannot escape my attention that there appears to be at least one other person who has the power of editing / deleting posts. Can anybody let us know who else has this power on this forum. It is an open forum after all.
  17. I watched the Andrew Marr Show on BBC TV this morning. One of his guests was Tony Iveson, DFC who as a Lancaster pilot with 617 Sqdn helped to sink the Tirpitz in Norway. Sqn Ldr Iveson is one of the most youthful 90 year olds I have seen in a long while and is leading an appeal to raise funds for a permanent memorial to Bomber Command in London. I am sure he would be delighted if he were given an invitation to be a guest at Autographica.
  18. This is an excellent venue with its more centralised location. It does not favour those from the south east and gives greater accessability countrywide. Keep Birmingham !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Joanna Lumley and the Gurkhas beat Gordon Brown over the issue of residence. Lets get Joanna back to Autographica and help her to celebrate.
  20. I agree that the complete A9 crew would be great, but I believe Jim McDivitt made noises last time that he would not be back over the Pond. Dave Scott and Rusty would be very acceptable. Realistically, you are not going to get Harrison Schmitt. If it were a geological symposium, that would be different, but he just does not do Autograph shows. Anybody interested in Walter Cronkite who did the A11 commentary for CBS?
  21. Yes, how about some Gurkha VCs. Lets show that by seeking their autographs, the general public of this country have respect for them even if the current abysmal government do not. Joanna Lumley would approve.
  22. Hi Andy, The Helen Sharman lecture is arranged for 4 p.m. on the Saturday (TBC) and for 4 p.m. on the Sunday (TBC). You can find this information on the Astro Information Website at: http://www.astroinfoservice.co.uk/html/autographica.html Hope that helps, even if the times still have to be firmed up.
  23. That's a great first nominee for Autographica 14. In the meantime, take care George and get well soon.
  24. Last year for Autographica, it was a ticketed parking system I recall. You paid on leaving. You could pay on card as well. I think the "call for Valet parking" perhaps means to phone them in advance if you want Valet parking. Thanks luke
