TurkFox
Psh! okay for some! :( i can't even eat the smallest amount of anything without putting weight on... and i dont really have the energy to exercise much I'll have a ponder, I'm sure I can think of fat-burning stuff that doesn't take much energy (I tend to avoid things like running where possible, my lungs are 10% asthma, 90% old chest infection that never went). How it works with me, is that although I've always had quite a fast metabolism, I also now have a lot of muscle - and muscle burns through a lot of calories just by existing and even more so when you exercise. It doesn't have to be bulky muscle either, look pro ballet dancers - strongest athletes in the world and ridiculously skinny!

I think my housemate's dogs help too - keeping my arm strength up with tug-of-war with Bingo and lifting him (he's 15kg of solid muscle) and playing chasing games with Minnie (puppy). I love to dance and there are a few other activities I'm really into, but I'm also really lazy so if I go down for food, I try to play with a do for 5 minutes while I'm there to balance out some of the food I just generally try to fit more stuff into my day rather than specific exercise. Things like walking to the tube station instead of getting the bus (20 minute walk), getting a different bus so I have a 10 minute walk to dancing, offering to hoover the stairs... TurkFox
Try some sort of "punishment" scheme - like if you say "I'll start tomorrow" or you're meant to exercise but don't, give something nice of yours food-wise to a friend or relative as a present. Giving away chocolate is so horrible that you'd eventually just have to do the exercise to stop feeling miserable.

fanggirl
The nurse at my surgery weighed me last week. I nearly died!!!!! Yes I'm overweight (only just in the overweight bracket... if I don't shift some lbs soon I'll be into the obese category on my BMI), I know that but on the positive side I *am* in proportion. I just need to lose an inch all over and tone up a little and I'd be 1) lighter, 2) fitter, 3) more likely to fit into the pretttty Firetrap jeans I bought in the sale in a smaller size deliberately in an attempt to lose some weight and 4) happier. The norm for me is to not eat breakfast. I have no appetite when I wake up until I've been up for at least 2 hours... by then I'm in work and it's not really appropriate for me to eat (especially if I'm taking a class). This week I've been trying to be good and eat a healthy breakfast (weetabix, dried fruit & a small amount of soya milk) but I find that when I do eat that I'm *starving* 2 hours later. And despite bringing healthy snacks (50g houmous & carrot sticks) I find I'm constantly hungry.... and am eating WAY more calories than I do if I have just lunch & dinner. I don't really eat a lot of rubbish either - as I don't eat dairy I can't just grab a bar of chocolate, or a bag of crisps. I think I just need to do some more exercise & cut down on drinking. I don't drink a lot... but over easter/weekends away I do have a few more shandies than normal.

naurarwen_fangorn
Sorry guys gonna sound like a bit of a buzz kill here but some of you are awfully young to be thinking about dieting. I mean I'm worried that some of you may do something drastic (i.e. crash diet etc) which really isn't going to benefit your health. So for you youngsters maybe just try and watch what you eat, try and chill out on the junk food that sort of thing and make sure you get a decent amount of exercise each week but please don't do anything silly or drastic. I agree...Plus, some of you might think you need to lose weight, but you may actually only need to tone up which only means no real diet, just eating better and drinking water and juice and smoothies and stuff, and exercise rather than a full blown diet. Sometimes adjusting what you eat is better than going on a diet...Just take care :/

TurkFox
I lost three pounds last week for the Hub 4 but put it all back on again over the event! But I've lost almost two pounds of it again already. The just-eating-better thing seems to work very slowly for me, I need to do more exercise (or, since I haven't had dance classes due to the holiday, ANY exercise that isn't just walking!). Most doctors that deal with diabetes have their own specialist diabetic dieticians who can help you come up with a good eating plan and warn what things to cut out and what things you need. I had one the first few years I had diabetes. If he hasn't recommended you to a dietician I'd maybe ask your doc next time you go to refer you.
