thefreckles
2) Please re-think the way you handle disabled attendees. I was under the impression that you were going to let these in first for talks and they would then take their place in the appropriate row. This did not happen on Saturday and caused my friend some problems, especially as she was told she could not go in one empty row and had to go back and walk around some distance to get to a seat. Can you clarify what did not happen on Saturday? I was pretty much in the front on Saturday and disabled people definitely were called first. I agree that there was confusion about where they'd sit though. I think the reason why your friend may have been asked to walk around was the camera in the main aisle? Otherwise what she was told would be really odd. I was in the front too and have answered your question further down up :) The camera was near the row where we could have sat but was in front of it. I'm still really puzzled myself as to why we were directed away from there. An overzealous crew member perhaps? becs
It would have also been handy to clearly mark out the appropriate gold and silver rows as it was impossible to know where one was allowed to seat hop to. Having read all the stuff when I got back home - I think the way it works is the hall is 'loaded' at certain times, i.e. at the beginning of each session of talks in group order. After that I don't think it's that strict., so folk should have not got too shirty about it. I am worried about the hotel and if they want us to stay for future cons it would be in their best interest to put out a public apology and explain how they intend to ensure things aren't so dreadful in the future. silvercomet
I'd like to say 'Thank you', too. It was a terrific event. This was my first Convention and I guess I'm spoiled for every one which I might attend in the future. All the photos were great, so it was completely unnecessary to worry about them prior to the Convention. The casino was fun, although I didn't win a single game. I just missed a whole talk due to a belated signing. But the good thing was, that we were allowed to keep our seats for the following talk. The decision either to bid for the guest encounters or to go to the talks was a little tough. I understand that there wasn't enough time to schedule events without overlaps but i.e. the GE with Colin was both times at the same time as the Joe/Jason talk. I would have needed a higher stage too, since I'm just a little person. Although I sat in the gold rows, I often couldn't see a guest directly. You aren't making/selling DVDs from the talks, are you? Some things were so funny or/and interesting that I'd love to watch them again.
Moderators DavidB Posted February 24, 2009 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2009 DVDs have always been a tricky thing to develop, and as such SM/ME have never done so, although they have plenty of footage. I wouldn't expect one, but never say never I guess

It was my impression too, but if I'm wrong, things need to be made clearer in the future mostly because I'm terrible with confrontations

Showmasters Admin Too Tall Posted February 25, 2009 Showmasters Admin Share Posted February 25, 2009 (edited) Anyone that needed special seating was called. I'm sorry that some people appear to have been missed. Usually the reg desk let people know to come and see me. As long as I KNOW, I will make sure people that need it get in first. But I need to know. At Northampton it's easier as everyone is pretty much there in front of me so when I call out most people hear and come forward. At Bedford it was not so easy with the split level. But I will make a point of... A: Talking to the reg desk to make sure everyone that looks as though they may need it, is told to see me. B: That I mention it in the opening ceremony and maybe on Saturday too. On a different topic. The only tickets that have an AREA is the gold tickets. This is usually the first 5 rows. Apart from that all rows are open. The hall is loaded at around 2pm usually. Once the hall is loaded if people choose to leave they can NOT save their seat unless.... A: They have a Guest Encounter. B: They have a signing (rare but it did have to happen at CH7.2 due to some unnamed people being late ;o). C: They are only leaving for 5 minute MAX to go to the loo. If leaving for any other reason you MUST take your things with you and leave the seat free for someone else. This includes the gold pass area. BUT only gold pass holders can take a seat in that area. So lets say a gold pass holder in the front row leaves then another Gold pass holder can move to that seat. Leaving their seat free for that gold pass holder when they come back. I hope that clears it up. If you are ever in any doubt about anything and the crew can't help or you appear to being given conflicting information please come and see me. I am always about somewhere. If you can't see me, ask a crew member and they'll be able to get hold of me. Edited February 25, 2009 by Too Tall

B: That I mention it in the opening ceremony and maybe on Saturday too. I know my friend saw you on Friday but you did not mention anything to her about going in as special seating on the Saturday. She spoke to you again after problems and all was fine on the Sunday and you kindly sorted everything out (as you did all other times either myself, friends or anyone who was around you when approached) - you were one busy person but always listened and did what you could and that's appreciated. Above and beyond what you could at times too! One quick thing I meant to mention before, it might be an idea to also point out the Fire Exits during the opening cermony and/or before the start of the talks, especially given what happened on Sunday. I was rather appalled that no bell seemed to sound in the room itself and we could barely hear the one outside. The first I knew about it was when you yelled (calmly) that we needed to evacuate. A bit naughty on the hotel's part! Anyway, thank you once again for a lovely weekend with fantastic memories that will stay with me for a long time to come! Calihet
Hello!: Thank you all for everything. This was my first convention. I have met many people and I understood more or less, because I think my brother and I have been the only assistance from Spain, hahahaha.... Aqualegia
I enjoyed the convention and the guests were excellent. :) I only have one complaint - the stage was nowhere near high enough - even when the guests were standing I could only see hair - when they were sitting they were all out of sight. This problem was compounded by the fact that the large screens were out of focus -
