Buffy/ Angel guests

There is an old saying of "Two wrongs do not make a right", and in this thread that is becoming rather true.

I will explain...

Everyone has a right to an opinion, but it should be worded appropriately. I myself have learnt the hard way how the "faceless" internet can take harmless words and make them seem aggressive or offensive. Some people in this life will live to take that appearance and make it into something it is not.

So, putting an "angry" smiley face at the start of this thread that is visible to all is not a good start. There is a general rule of thumb to treat people how you would like to be treated. But, in return, describing this thread as "selfish" may be a tad harsh. I can see where that poster is coming from as there are numerous guests that I would love to meet, but have accepted that I may not.

One poster had the right idea in explaining to the newer posters about a good balance to keep old timers and newbies to the signing circuit happy. To that person I humbly acknowledge her wisdom.

The point of my post is this, instead of having people arguing, or flaming as it is called, why don't we all be friendly with each other. Have the old timers help the newbies, and the newbies be respectful in their requests..not demands or wants...requests.

Remember that potential guests work for a living and their filming comes first. In any advertising you will see "subject to availabiltiy", and we all need to respect that. I have found an ever increasing number of guests at events like Collectormania, LFACC and numerous other events around the world jump onto message forums to see the reaction to them coming etc. Unkind words can often jeopardise their appearance now or in the future. Don't help scare them away. Some of them already find such events astounding first time around as they sometimes do not realise how popular they are.

Anyway, peace and love people.

AJ

P.S. Before anyone flames me for being polite and having an opinion, don't bother as I will just ignore it. This is a friendly community. If you want to flame me, then do so on my e-mail. Cheers.

Well said AJ, the person who started this thread was just voicing their opinion, we are fans of something or other so lets be friendly. Surely just stating who you would like to see for this fandom or another also gives SM an idea of who would be popular too as it must be a nightmare trying to please everyone.

As for this thread i dont think most of the post on here have been whining just who people would like to see.

Well I started this thread and i was only saying that i would like some buffy/Angel peeps. Sorry if i upset or annoyed anyone.

At least you can come on here and say what you just have. As I said in my rather long post, the faceless internet can often be misread and taken as something else. Some people say I WANT, which is a total no no in my book. It should be "it would be great if we could have" or "is it possible to get", as you will find some people jumping on innocently posted comments.

Being on friendly terms can also help at shows as we can make friends, meet up and help each other out by getting this auto or this, or that. It also means that you can have someone to chat to in the huge lines. It is better than standing there on your own.

Anyway, I am off to have my sunday roast and watch Smallville from earlier (been swimming).

Take care everyone, and remember that it takes more muscles to frown that it does to smile.

as much as a Whedon Verse con would be cool, that would not stop people moaning about the lack of such guests at each and every show, which ever happens to be next.

Except then they would all moan about how SM was trying to bankrupt them all :D :-)

Actually, on a serious point, the suggestion that they did a CM event solely for Whedon shows, is extremely risky. Given the Whedonites are always saying how they are great fans of everything he does, presumably they would want autos from every guests, and photo shoots with all of them. So 30 guests at £15 a pop, and five photoshoots at twenty notes per; that's £550, on top of travel and accommodation for the event attendee. I'll bet that a lot of them can't afford that. The real risk therefore is that SM run such an event, and have less people come (because there's not such a broad appeal) and those who do come don't have enough money between them to keep all the guests busy enough. Couple this with the fact that such a show would be less attractive to dealers, because of the relatively narrow focus, and you end up with less money coming from attendees, and less money coming from dealers. Congratulations, you're the mayor of Big Lossville.

The simple fact is that many people who go to CM can only afford a few autos; structuring a show with a narrower appeal, that would exceed many of the attendees budgets, is madness.

As a thread in isolation it's fine. But for any people who have been here any length of time, it's like a broken record; there seems to be a "where are all the Buffy guests?" thread for every show (go back and look at the fora for past shows), and it gets a bit wearing. I'm not saying that Buffy fans are whinier than others, but I think SM can take it as read that there's still a demand.

Hey TommyT...I totally agree with the "broken record" reference, but the long time posters on this forum or any other forum also have to give a little patience to newbies. More and more people are coming to events like Collectormania or LFACCC all over the country, so the veterans of posting will have to learn to realise that the same questions will always pop up. However, if it is by the same posters for every event, then that is a different matter.

As regards the Whedon event, I did specify in a post that it would be in a convention format like the upcoming Lost and Heroes weekend conventions. For something like that you would not have 30 guests, as teh convention format would be impossible to run smoothly. Half a dozen or so guests would see a full weekend of autograph and photo sessions, talks, parties etc...

So, a Whedon Convention - not a Collectormania style signing event - would most definitely work from a business stance.

Also, the broken record syndrome will always be there..it is just how it is dealt with..hopefully in a friendly siggestive way rather than the opposite..

Peace & Love People...and a tub of Starwberry Ice Cream.....

Personally I hope that there isn't any major Buffy or Angel guests at this event as James Marsters is going to be in Manchester and I am heading there. Surfy Sah does have a point about the bankruptcy side, my first event was Collectormania 11 which was excellent and I spent loads there. I am just hoping they will announce another Buffy or Angel star for Manchester which will make it even better.

I think the line up for Collectormania 12 is looking very good and I was really tempted to go to both Manchester and Milton Keynes but I am afraid that Manchester now takes precedence. Adrienne Barbaeu, Kevin Sorbo, Danny Dyer, Erick Avari and Michael Shanks will just have to wait!

I was going on the tenth post in this thread where you said

"why not have a one off specialist Collectormania called Collectormania - The Joss Whedon Years. Then you can indulge the Whedon fansd all weekend long"

- since that post didn't specify a convention format, and used the name Collectormania, which seems to be pretty much identified with signing events, I assumed a similar 30-guest format. I see that you made another later post referring to a putative Whedon Convention, but since that referred to that convention as a semi-regular event, I interpreted you as calling both for a semi-regular convention plus a one-off Collectormania signing event for the Whedon fans.

An easy mistake to make, and rectified quite politely. :)

The whole point of the initial post regarding a Collectormania - or rather I should have put Showmasters - event regarding Whedon was to hopefully show the newbies and, shall we say, demanders on the odd occasion, that Collectormania/LFACC is an "across the board" event for "all tastes". Whereas, a convention format event for Wheonites would indulge them to their deepest desires so to speak. As Showmasters is promting/helping stage (I am unsure as to their complete involvement) two conventions for Lost and Heroes, my suggestion was one which the "newbies" and "occasional demanders" would grab hold of and run with..thus leaving the Collectormania/LFACC format to the wider variety. With some it has sunk in that CM/LFACC are across the board. However, with others, it may take a little more time. But, done in a friendly manner, I think that it may eventually drop the dime so to speak.

Gratitude for your polite comments.

Have a good evening

Thanks for the clarification.

On an entirely separate point, I think in your last sentence quoted above you mean that the penny will drop, as in people will eventually get the idea. To dime or drop a dime is slang for informing the authorities of illegal behaviour (deriving from the fact that the informant ringing the police from a public payphone would need to drop a dime in the coin slot to make the call).

I am aware of the general meaning of "drop the dime", but it is a term in recent years that I have used to mean "the penny will drop". I am not one to "go with the crowds", and it also has a particular meaning for me as to the "penny dropping" so to speak.
