  1. I’m beyond saddened to hear of his untimely passing this morning.

I first met him three years ago at another UK convention where for a glorious hour both he and J G Hertzler had everyone in stitches goofing their way through a duo and respective individual photo shoots: pulling faces, mercilessly mocking each other and in some cases unexpectedly photobombing each other to hilarious effect.

At each subsequent event I met Aron, not only did he remember me but he’d take it upon himself to pinch my phone and show his fellow guests what he called “the greatest photobomb EVER!”. Following last year’s DST, we followed each other on Twitter and regularly kept in touch. On every single occasion he proved not only to be incredibly funny, but humble, kind and generous with his time - all true hallmarks of being part of the Star Trek family. I’m so glad he was able to contribute to the recent DS9 Doc where it’s plain to see just how much his time on the show meant to him.

I hope you took a few slips of Latinum with you to buy your way into the Divine Treasury, Aron.

RIP, you will be sorely missed.

  2. I think the time of year DST is held is going to be a recurring issue when booking Mr Frakes. Many production schedules are in full flow by October and he's more likely to be in demand for his services...

Better trying for June/July with Collectormania or LFCC, or LFCC Spring perhaps?<_<

It's worth noting as well, because some people don't like it, but the 8x10's on offer from the official stand will probably have the DST on them so if that's something you don't like you will need to source your own.

I don't have any DST 8x10's to show you an example of but I can show you the ones from Sherlocked that have the same type of show name on them.

Yes, the DST photos do have the logo on them. I have scanned a small selection from last year’s batch so you can see what they look like. Usually each guest has at least three or four different ones to choose from.

The packages are good IMO and we have done Commander and Captain in the past and to be honest, there was very little difference compared to the hike in price. We usually stick to Commander these days. Like has been said the autos are random, however they can get away with that here are it is (for the most part) a one fandom event. I know this isn’t technically true and you can have people like one Trek show and dislike all the others, but to be honest the best part of the packages is the talks and the queueing perks. Lieutenant package just doesn’t give you enough as it is the only one that doesn’t have priority for the queueing ( a lot of people don’t note that, you keep seeing them arguing at queues) and if you have loads of cash the dream would be Admiral which is apparently just a phenomenal experience (ask @robmoriarty he’ll tell you all about last year).

Yes the autographs are random but you will almost certainly get someone you were going to get anyway and if not, then you’re still getting the auto of someone you weren’t planning on and it can be fun to meet new guests you didn’t expect. We were pleasantly surprised by Mary Chieffo last year who was an absolute blast at her table and we wouldn’t have gone near her if it wasn’t in the package.

It can all be done on VQ’s too though, but I disagree a bit with Captain Lucas as we have seen some mad queueing (George Takei at DST 2016 in particular springs to mind) but this is usually down to the usual mix of slow signing, chatty guest and inexperienced blue shirts managing the queues mixed with desperate fans trying to get to see their “big” guest. Jonathan Frakes this year will be insane as he has cancelled the last at least 3 (maybe 4) DST’s so everyone will be wanting him. Take a package and you could get lucky and get him on there. Equally in 2016 they had to announce over the tannoy that William Shatner was on an open queue one afternoon. William Shatner. At a dedicated Star Trek convention and the queue was dead, we just walked right up. It can happen.

Connor you should get very easily as he has been there before and won’t be in such huge demand. As QS says he’s lovely (he was actually a bit drunk when I met him as him and Dominic Keating had been slipping vodka into their red bulls all afternoon). If you want only 3-5 people you will get them over the three days. We averaged about 8-10 a day last year and were all done by the Sunday so spent it at photo ops (which are the exact same as LFCC btw) and going to talks, something we never manage to do at LFCC.

If you are a Trek fan then you HAVE to experience it. I don’t know nobody that has gone as a newbie that I haven’t met on the Sunday and have them tell me they aren’t coming back. Everyone can’t wait to book the next year.

Now if only I could find a rich uncle/aunt or have the 6 little numbers come up so I can get that damned Admiral package......

As @Ravogd hinted at, I did review the admiral package last year, which I hope it’s okay to link to here(?).

Normally I've only ever gone with a pay-as-you-go approach. Wanting to meet 27 guests and in particular when the entire Discovery cast was announced late on was my tipping point in deciding to go for the top package. The bottom line with any you choose is to add up the things that you want to do as they’re announced, look at the perks that come with the packages, see which are most important to you and then which becomes economically viable. That’s all I did. You don’t have to decide right now, prob up until the end of September when the lineup is more formed is fine.

This year so far I’m up to around 11 guests so far. So I’m probably thinking Commander package at the absolute minimum, more likely Captain depending on any remaining announcements matching with my remaining wishlist.

    Hope that helps you @HeartDT.

I’ve met Jenna before and usually get a smile and handshake so agree yesterday afternoons shoot was a bit odd as she never spoke though I did get a nod when I thanked her however I thought it was a “better” experience as she was more animated with poses

I've heard from other events she can be like this at times - hell, we all can - I met her last December at another event. I was first in the queue and did get a pose from her, but it definitely felt like more of a "distant" encounter than with some other guests. not that it's ever completely fair to compare between guests either, we are after all individuals, not machines.

I have a lot more photos but wanted to post this one. Thank you so much for this Showmasters. Martin was an amazing guest and I'm so happy I got to meet him.

Words well said @EllaBlair (If anything a little annoyed you beat me to it!!). Thank you Showmasters for bringing such a fabulous guest to us this weekend. I always thought meeting one of my idols would be memorable. He was so welcoming and gracious with his time, he exceeded my expectations by some margin. A truly wonderful human spirit. Hope he enjoys his first convention experience as much as we have seeing him. Anything you can do to convince him to return for his second would be hugely appreciated!*

*Except by my bank manager, just possibly...

  7. Sincerely hope the east coast mainline is back up and running by Saturday morning after the carnage today - otherwise many of us won't be able to make it down.

Obviously hope I can still make it safely there, but if not that FanShield option better cover our beloved* rail network not being able to cope with the weather we've had today and its aftermath.

*take with a rather large pinch of salt!

Going by the wording, and given I haven't looked at the app yet, it doesn't sound like they intend using it for updating about where queues have called to which might be a good thing given how many guests they have, notifications would be going off every second otherwise.

The official Facebook post does say "during the show you will be able to receive all the latest info, changes & exclusive competitions!". Might not do all updates, but some is better than nothing.

  9. Apologies to the admins if you have a post lined up for this. But to anyone else who has been on this forum for any length of time now, you'll know many of us post events have asked if it is possible to have an app to make things easier throughout each event.

It seems our requests have finally been answered, and I just wanted to be the first to say thanks SM for listening and delivering!

Believe me I tried that, it just didn't give me any options to save it as anything other than a web page

If you clicked on the image first and then tried to do that, then yes there aren't any options other than save as web page. If you look at it in the normal twitter stream view and then right click, you can save image as or open the image in a new tab (browser depending obviously).
