With this whole 'Oh I've met them before, get someone new' argument, what you have to remember is there are people coming who haven't met anyone, so argument is invalid :)

I get where you are coming from but what about the hundreds who have met loads of the cast...loads of times...Can we at least have some hope for a newbie signer.

Just one good one will have me going...even if i do not want or need the announced guests auto's. :D

Yes, you absolutely can. Jason posted that a couple of days ago:

And there are people NOT coming so far BECAUSE they've met them

The arguement isn't exactly invalid. It's quite simple, get someone like Craig Parker, loads of people have already met him, get someone like Billy Boyd, quite a few people have already met him but he'd be popular and his last appearance was a long time ago, and he was main cast. Get someone like Sean Bean and the convention would sell out. It's a no brainer really. People might like guys like Craig Parker, but to me he's just an average guest from LOTR, and he HAS done events in the past that lots of people met him at, including myself, and don't get me wrong I enjoyed meeting him but i've no desire to meet him again really, so it'd be wiser i'd think to try for the rarer ones. Then you're going to appeal to everyone as there's less chance that anyone has met them

So agree with you again.

Craig parker is a lovely, friendly and very chatty person but many have had 2 or more encounters with him...if i met him again i would just have to talk about Spartatcus... :P

No offense with the get new people ....people. XP

But at the end of the day there will always be guests who repeat ive met dom and billy and john (dom and Billy being the two who most people seem to want to meet) I really dont care your not going to please everyone but what i do know is these two are amazing fun and you always have a great laugh with them. That for me is what makes these experiences more memorable. I would pay to see them again in a heart beat (along with the 3 already mentioned) Yes id like new guests to complete my sigs but i dont have a bad word to say about craig or Mark what so ever and really made my 16th birthday special. (I am now 21 and much older! XP)

And (just a quick edit) This is to volunteer ideas for guests doesnt mean for defo i was just putting it out there that they are amazing guys and really good with fans which is important. (to me at least)

I guess that's where opinions differ then. I'm not looking to meet people again and again just because they're nice. For most guests, that doesn't appeal to me at all. I want the opportunity to meet people i've never met, people I admire and have always wanted to meet. And as I said previously, the mere fact that ANYONE would rather prefer new guests to people like Parker and Ferguson shows that more people would likely go if there was new people.

Honestly, if their 6 guests for the event included the 3 already announced and Craig and Mark, do you really think they'd sell anywhere near enough tickets to break even? I'd say they need at least 3 guests to be announced who are big/rare for the event to sell well

Generally id agree. However! With a certain film filming and alot of the old cast going back for it Eg Ian of Mckellen, Elijah, Orlando, Cate, Andy ect it may make things difficult and there may be people who havent met them before its been a long time since an english LOTR con and hopefully in the last 10 years we have a new generation of elf/hobbit/Orc? lovers out there who maybe missed the chance. I am already getting ready to buy my ticket when ive already met the main guest John because im loyal to the films and love the opertunity to hang with the rings gang again! ITS BEEN TOOOOOO LOOOOOOOONG XP

See the thing is i'm not just thinking about my own wishes. I'm thinking about what would make the event a success, and what I believe would generate more interest and ticket sales. And I do believe that IF it was an event of the kind of guests that are already announced(again, not criticising anyone in particular as i've met 2 of them before and enjoyed meeting them) I don't think a lot of people would instantly nab tickets.

When there's a convention, for 90% of potential attendees, it ALWAYS boils down to 'what guests are going?'. And quite a few people will be looking at the lineup right now saying 'met him, met him, met him, no need for me to go so far' The con is at least 90 quid a ticket, plus hotel bills and travel for a lot of people, there will always have to be a very strong guest list to generate interest, not just the fact it's an awesome film and some people are 'loyal' to it

I think this is a no win discussion.

I agree with jackndaniel...Its not just ticket price, its all the other payouts that go with it, and the distance to travel.

I know there is hopefully gonna be a fist signer there...but its gonna have to be a goody to entice me.

And i am a hard line LOTR fan...with some wicked costumes i am dying to wear again.
