Maraviel Posted June 3, 2004 Share Posted June 3, 2004 Made the patterns for the bodice and skirts today (I'm going as a Hobbit lass on the Sunday of C6 and as an elf of the Saturday but the dress is already made for that)....and now I can't decide which materials and colours I want to use. Damn me for being so indecisive..... I'm going to NZ for part of my gap year and we were going to take our costumes and a load of random/funny photos in our spare time....although at the moment, we've kind of got the sewing bug and we've been making costumes simply cos we'd rather do that than revise so we could have enough to do a remake of LoTR Soon Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

New Street is quite good for getting ya where you want to be. Not so good at doing that whole trains arriving on time thing, though Where abouts is good for you? Frodo lives, and he's a dental technition! Oh yeah, doing the Frodo attacks Sam scene is a must! Middleton Hall didn't quite have the atmosphere. It was very close though! Wonder if we can do it without laughing this time? Probably not Aw thanks for offering to go wading after me I know how scarred Sam is of water. Better not tread no that one piece of glass thats at the bottom. LOL! I'm surprized you remembered the daft face sauages I had. Of course I'll be giving you the "real" ones. There the offical licenced lotr replica sauages! Or not. Heehe *hugs* Haha! I guessed right! (I looked up Dudley castle.....I is soooo clever...*pats me on head*) My Frodo's a dental technitian!!!Cool! We are both in the medical profession, what smart hobbits we are! Well, as I said I'm leaving my job to be a better gardener (and sadly this is true as my other job is in a garden centre...) Digging is far better than dispensing in my opinion! I think I won't be quite as giggly....the stabbing scene will hopefully be easier without tons of people shopping and staring at us...with their Marks and Sparks looks of disgust at our unshaven feet! This Sam isn't so much scared of water as he is heat...(Sarowyn will tell you how harrowing it is for me to get things out of the oven, I am scared witless of the thing.) How could I forget the daft face sausages! They're fantastic, if only Sean had them in the real film, just to add a little comedy at the darkest points of the film... *a-hem* Sam : 'Do you remember the Shire, Mr Frodo?' Frodo : 'cough splutter, not much...Sam...cough' (scary mad face sausage pops round the corner of a rock) 'I do!!! I remember the Shire! let's go get some bacon and eggs....yum yum yum...' Gollum : 'Leave the Precioussss, leave it, fat hobbit, come get bacon and eggssss, preciousss. We needs no silly ring...' I can just about live with that On a similar vain I'd rather we didn't use any actual Shelobs for rotk stuff. I've had quite a successful day today. My boss knows a make up artist who specialises in injuries. He showed her my mt doom photos and she came to me house today to practice on me (you should see whats on my head right now! Laras on her way over to take piccies!) She was happy to share her knowlegde with me and I quizzed her about the "morgul blade" look. I know how to do gangreen and make it look like yours sweating and crying! How appropriate that you're going into a garden work (not melbicks?!) I do hope you'll still have time to care to bag end's garden! No one's called me clever in years! Dental techs need to be good at art and craft - lots of v' small hand work. I'm reguarded as the thick one in our lab It's not true! So guess we're looking at julyish then? Must get some ideas! *wonders where you've got in mind* Oh that reminds me. I found me pipe today. But I intend to buy some proper stuff from the costume shop I get my ears from....(how strange this may sound to an outsider) You are not dumb! People think I am slightly mad for having glove puppets (random items in lost property such as socks and teddies) at work....and waving them at the pharmacist with a squeaky voice... I have started making a new jacket for FOTR stuff, because I did not previously own one.... I will give you my e-mail address for the fact that soon I will be overtaking the whole thread....you don't have to e-mail me, it's just for arranging Julyishness!!! I have little money left and need something simple...oooh...brown and black....boot polish, can't be harmful, right? hehehehe, it doesn't do you any harm but it doesn't half stick around for ages!! I am in utter respect of you going to the gym, you can't even get me going for a brisk walk, but that must change. I need excersise. chocolate and no excersise = stupid fat hobbit....but then, It doesn't matter right if I look more Samish? Messing about with puppets! It's the best thing ever! and making silly voices to go with them....ok...so I don't own a proper puppet, but socks and things do just fine..... New Frodo jacket? and what, my dear, is wrong with the old one? tut tut. I won't argue....creative genius must be allowed to happen! (is also halfway into making trousers and jacket now. Yay, that worked! I get to read the posts now! My dad uses a puppet in his act. I only just thought of that. Dad's a magician (a very good one ) and he has "Trix" the dog to help him in childrens shows. It normally steals the show! He's a silent dog, though. No silly voices here other than my dad's. Haha. Soz, getting off topic here. But speaking of putting of putting on silly voices, I still can't stop speaking in my "Sam" voice! Lara keeps shouting at me that I'm not Sam anymore I'd like to go to your phamasist, you get a show whilst you wait for your percription Unless, that is that you're working in the lab' bit, playing with the chemica..*a penny drops*.. Heehee just playing with ya! I shall have to send the weekend watching LotR looking for some good scenes as well. That's a good plan. Might watch all free back. Oh how we must suffer for our art. I'll email all my ideas I'm trying to get a couple of walking sticks for the start of the journey bit, just in case we need them. Ooo yes, B'ham markets have over sized grapes and apples! I'm gunna get some and we'll look proper hobbit sized! Typical hobbit, I'm already planning what food I'm gunna take! I haven't made my jacket, but I know what I'm gunna be eating The great thing about Sam's outfit is his cape - at the start of the fellowship is similar to the elven capes, same colourish but tied at the end with a bow so you can get away with using the same cape. Is it just me or does Sam change from a brown suit (fotr) to a grey(tt) one? That drove me round the twist while I were making me costume. Aw sorry to go on. I've seen and been in alot worse and it's nice to see the costumers getting a reward for what they bring to the show. It would be better if everyone wasn't bunched together though. I know a lot of cosplayers felt that people didn't really get to see their outfits or that the best parts were hidden. Prehaps a parade is in order.
