what does a second assistant director do?


An asssistant director is heavily involved in the shooting of a film. Jobs include tracking daily progress against the filming production schedule, arranging logistics, preparing daily call sheets, checking cast and crew, maintaing order on set, taking care of health and safety of the crew. They stay close to the director, help directo scenes and sometimes direct paticular scenes.


A 2nd assistant director duties can include jobs listed above and also include liasing with actors, putting cast through make-up and wardrobe, and taking care and positioning the extras on set.


Michael Stevenson started his career as an assistant director in the 1960s and is still working to this date. His credits include Laurence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, Ryan's Daughter, Barry Lyndon, The Eagle Has Landed, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Shining, Flash Gordon, Highlander, Rambo III and many more).


In 2003 Michael was awarded the Michael Balcon BAFTA award for outstanding British contribution to Cinema.


Michael can also be seen in Vivian Kubricks "Making the Shining", a look behind the scenes during the making of Stanley Kubricks The Shining. He's seen working closley with Stanley and helping Shelley Duvall rehearse her lines.
