Blu Ray releases?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone confirm whether Deep Space Nine and Voyager are coming on Blu Ray?

I heard a rumour that we might see them by the end of the year.

I haven't heard anything apart from the usual requests for it. If it was going to be released this year then I would have expected to have seen an official announcement by now. There hasn't been any hint that any of the remaining series are even being worked on though ;)

There have been some recent murmers TNG might be reedited in HD in the not too distant future, but don't hold your breath for ds9 or voyager

Yeah, there's not been any word on them, and they're not exactly high flyers on the DVD for Trek releases. TOS and TNG are the most popular, so they're less risky.

This may be incorrect but I seem to recall reading somewhere that Enterprise was filmed in HD and therefore would be a cheaper option to transfer to blu-ray. The flipside being that it is not as universally popular as some of the other series.

Enterprise kicks Voyagers bum!! :D

Ive been wanting to get TOS on bluray for a while now but waiting for a price drop. 40 at the mo per season, though I see a complete TOS set is due for release soon 100+ quid

Its okay - just seen them advertised in two of the film / Sci Fi magazines.

Next Gen should be out in June, DS9 in July, Voyager in August and Enterprise in September.

Its going to be an expensive year.

Except for Boobyprise I think they are just a DVD reissue.

Yep, they're all being re-issued on DVD like the recent TOS.

The latest set has all three seasons in one package, but what I want to know is what order are the episodes in? If they are in story order then I want it, but if they are in US transmission order then I don't.

Wow they got TNG done quick if its out soon.

I heard becaise of the way it was edited (tapes) it would take aaaages to transfer TNG to blu-ray/any HD format at all.

Same would go for some of DS9 and maybe Voyager I assume too.

TNG isn't coming out any time soon on Blu-ray. They're just moving towards it.

It will take ages for TNG, they have to recomposite all the elements - originally this was done on video to save money. THe SFX shots exists on film, but they may just decide to replace it with CGI versions anyway.

The later half of DS9 and most of Voyager is harder, since most of the FX were (darn good) CGI. But not High Definition. So to do it right would mean rerendering it all. Which might prove too expensive.

The closest to official confirmation that I have found so far regarding TNG coming to blu-ray, http://twitter.com/#!/levarburton/stat...432086326284289

The latest from rumorville - the release is scheduled for the 25th anniversary of TNG in 2012 with official confirmation being announced later this month. Make it so!

25th anniversary already? :D I'm in denial.

American info.

We've posted about this in the past, and now StarTrek.com says it's official: they say that "The Next Generation Blu-rays Launch in 2012"! Here is the important info posted there, including confirmation of the 4-episode sampler ("Encounter at Farpoint, Parts 1 and 2" in the original feature-length version, plus "Sins of the Father" and "The Inner Light") on Blu-ray. It's titled Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Next Level, and it ships on January 31, 2012 for $21.99 SRP. Here's a quote from StarTrek.com:

You've heard the rumors, and now StarTrek.com can officially confirm it: Star Trek: The Next Generation will be released in high-definition Blu-ray, starting in January with a sampler of several popular episodes, followed by a season-one set to be released later on in 2012, and subsequent seasons beaming down after that. Each of the 178 episodes spanning The Next Generation's seven seasons will be transferred to true high-definition 1080p for release in the Blu-ray format and, eventually, for runs on television and digital platforms in the U.S. and across the world. Star Trek: The Next Generation will, as fans know, be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012.

"Fans have been clamoring for a high-definition release of Star Trek: The Next Generation," Ken Ross, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. "Transferring the series to high-definition presented difficult technical challenges, but our team has come up with a process to create true 1080p HD masters with true HD visual effects. We can't wait to show fans how pristine the series looks and sounds with our upcoming Blu-ray releases."

CBS is, in fact, returning to the original film negatives, a mother lode of material encompassing 25,000-plus reels of footage, and editing the episodes together precisely as they were when they originally aired between 1987 and 1994. Visual effects will not be upconverted from videotape, but instead will be recompositioned. The freshly cut film will ultimately be transferred to high definition with 7.1 DTS Master Audio. And all of the work is being done in conjunction with respected, longtime Star Trek figures Denise and Michael Okuda, who are on board as consultants.

As for that sampler, it will be called Star Trek: The Next Generation -- The Next Level. CBS Home Entertainment has set a January 31, 2012, release date for the single disc, which will include the feature-length version of the series pilot, "Encounter at Farpoint," as well the fan-favorite episodes "Sins of the Father" and "The Inner Light," the former from season three and the latter from season five. The Next Level will sell for the suggested retail price of $21.99.

Be sure to visit the above link to StarTrek.com and see the under-2-minute teaser video they have there! The finalized package art is shown below. Amazon.com has a listed posted (see button link below), but is not taking pre-orders as of this writing. That's expected to begin in the near future, however. Notice, too, that the write-up quoted above says "a season-one set (is) to be released later on in 2012, and subsequent seasons (are) beaming down after that." Stay tuned for updates!

I've had this one for ages when it dropped to like £40 at one time. I figured I'd watch it eventually. Now I want the Blu-Rays

All (incl. TOS, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise) of my Trek DVD's are the original, huge, releases. I couldn't wait for the complete boxsets or slimline releases

Hopefully TNG will sell well and they may be persuaded to do the same with the other series eventually. DS9 is highest on my Blu-Ray 'want' list.

I had 2 of those, but never got around to buying the rest (I couldn't afford them :D) so when the other one came out, I thought it made more sense to just get that

I have that one, but annoyingly when I opened it I found it was missing the poster and the dedication plaque. I contacted the seller and he told me that he'd contacted his supplier who was unable to obtain the missing items.

I have them all on dvd, I have no need for the blurays (unless there are numerous special features like commentaries?)

Ive seen that split screen one, looked ok, but not enough to entice me to double dip, especially as ive started a rewatch and as I remember series 1&2 (aside the odd ep) are pretty dull! I know it gets better, but the cost of the bluray, not worth it for me.

TBH, I love TNG, its trek with a great crew, but I do feel in trek circles its vastly overated!

NOW TOS bluray, I deff want that, the picture and sound improvements BUT also the original versions AND the special edition versions on seamless branching, thats what im talking about. but I will wait for it to hit the 50 quid mark.

does anyone know if the TOS blurays copy of the cage has the originals and the remastered? ( I hear the remastered one on the bluray has CGI and cuts ect)

I had some of the original hard cases with TNG but not all, I tried in vein to get this when i saw it in sales online but they were always out of stock

I later bought the slimlines to complete my TNG collection

TOS & DS9 are all the hard original cases

ENT, 3 slims and S4 hard original

VGR im yet to buy on dvd, waiting for it to drop to around the 50 mark for the box set

I'm fairly new to the world of Trek, so all the ones I own are in the slimline packaging. I simply couldn't handle my various DVDs of the same show being in different shape/sized boxes, would drive me mad :YAHOO:
