I'll go first:

The head crush by elevator and face melt in The Fly 2.

The elevator cable in Damien: Omen 2

Exploding head in Scanners

The guy splitting in half at the hands of the head vampire in John Carpenter's Vampires

"Choke on 'em" - Day Of The Dead

The garage attendant's suicide in The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

David Warner's decaptation in The Omen (1976)

Quint in Jaws

torn to pieces in Hellriser + The Hitcher

90% of head blown away in Hunter's Blood

another split in half this time by werewolf in Waxwork

being eaten slowly by rats while tied to a table - again from Waxwork

eating a Slug & having it multipy inside & then hundreds of them bursting out from anywhere they can - from Slugs: the Movie

Having hand shoved up backside & being pulled inside-out - Society

& although not a horror film - slowly melting from acid in Robocop then being splattered everywhere after being hit by car!

Not the greatest but I would have to say one of the worst deaths I have seen would have to come from the french movie Irréversible. The Fire Extinguisher scene is very sick.

But if we are talking greatest horror movie death scenes I'll go with..

The dinner table scene in Alien

Johnny Depps death on the bed in A nighmare on Elm street

Pulled in two by trucks in The Hitcher

Axe to the face in American Psycho

Ripped apart by Zombies in Day of the dead (1985)

The rest are not horror movies but are definetley up there as pretty damn sick or in great films

The baseball bat scene in Casino

The curb Stomp in American history X

Jean Renos death in Leon

The death of Murphy in Robocop

The slow motion death of Elias in Platoon

James

After hours of watching, here's my 10 greatest horror deaths, all chosen because of the shock/suprise value of the death scenes.

Quint falling in the 'Jaws' of the shark in Jaws (1975)

Keith Jennings being decapitated in The Omen (1976)

Paola Menard getting her eye impaled on a splinter in Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)

richard Hallorann getting axed in the chest in The Shining (1980)

Captain Rhodes being ripped apart by zombies in Dawn of the Dead (1985)

Lionel killing the zombies with a lawnmower in Braindead (1992)

Clyde's face being ground off by Gus’ motorbike wheel in Pet Semerary 2 (1992)

Insp. Renaldo Pazzi being disembowelled and hung from a balcony in Hannibal (2001)

Mr. Bellinger feeding his intestines into the film projector in Masters of Horror: Cigarette Burns (2005)

Anna having her complete skin ripped of by Pyramid Head in Silent Hill (2006)

The lift scene also from Final Destination 2

For sheer comedy value, the boxing scene in Jason Takes Manhattan

Gotta agree with "choke on 'em!" from DOTD!

Also....

Splinter in the eye from Lucio Fulci's "Zombie Flesheaters" (granted, you don't see the character die, but she turns up dead later in the movie). Also, nice throat being torn out sequence from the same movie.

Exploding head from opening of Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Death of "Joe the plumber" (ironically, more eye-popping fun!) in "The Beyond"

Person torn in half in "Demonia"

Yes, I've been on a Lucio Fulci bnder lately, lol!

Also, anything by Dario Argento (Opera, Tenebrae, Suspiria, etc.) has lashings of great deaths.

Gotta agree with the above posters on Jason takes Manhattan and Cigarette Burns.

This could have been nasty....

Night Breed 1990,,,Clive Barker.....Pinewood..

got called down to Pinewood studios for a day from a 1st A.D. who said he wanted me to do some business..

Wardrobe dress me as a lumberjack type person and I go onto the set..

All I’ve got to do is fire a shotgun at a very small man (stuntman) who is dressed and made up as the Devil. (This is a horror film) (Easy so far!)

I fire the gun into some bushes but miss the target. The director tells me to go forward and find the little devil.

All of a sudden this little man (stuntman) has me around the neck and slings me over his shoulder and onto the floor..

(I’ll have a quick word with the 1st A.D. as soon as I get my wind back)..

1st A.D.: "Sorry Aitch, I didn’t know he was going to do that, the director said he was only going to get you on the floor so he can slit your throat" (Nice, and me with my first grandson (Marc) only a few weeks old).

I said to him "You can’t go slinging granddads about it ain’t right"..

1st: "We’re paying £150 for the job". "Sling away".. I tell him..."but don’t cut my throat

too deep I wanna have a swift half of beer at lunchtime"…(I’m back)

Aitch

Not a huge gory horror movie fan, and I know a lot of people would probably say this movie is crap anyway(but its one of my fave movies), but when Anna has her fleshed ripped off by Pyramid Head in Silent Hill springs to mind instantly

Also totally agree with you Nicky about the Scanners one. Only saw that once about a decade ago and the memory still stays with me
