So what is Autographica like

This sounds strange, but I'm not interested in the invited stars at all! The stars I'd like to get signatures of are.... uhh... dead.

 

So my questions more relates to the dealers. I'm from the Netherlands and I'd like to come over for a day just to see what the dealers are offering. Astronauts don't make happy, but what about vintage stars? I'd love to get a Hitchcock signed photo or a James Stewart... so: How many dealers are there (how big is it)? And are there also dealers with vintage entertainement signatures like this (or only astronauts and Lincoln handwritten letters). And are there also dealers that sell popular entertainement (the LOTR signed photos, as you would expect on CM) or is this "not done" on this event...?

I've only been to one autographica beofre but out of every event I have attended I would say it was the most likely place you would find the sort of thing you seem to be looking for.

 

They did have John Mills and Richard Todd attend a show a year or so back so they are not averse to getting older film stars to make appearances in person

Hi there

autographica is a bit different from other shows you may have attended. There is usually 150 dealer tables selling only autographs. The autographs range from Vintage to modern with everything in between. It is the largest specialised autograph show in the World.

 

All dealers at the show are UACC members or have had their stock vetted before the show.

I have been to all but one of the previous Autographica shows, from Northampton, through Coventry and now down to Heathrow, and I can honestly say I have enjoyed each and everyone of them.

 

You can choose to go for just one day, or stay the weekend and go for a Dinner with one of the guests, the choice I guess is yours.

 

All the dealers specialise in Autographs , and usually the UACC (Universal Autograph Collectors Club) are on hand as well if you collect autographs and are interested in joining.

 

The guests have been wide and varied, and whilst you will see some names that you are familiar with, Kenny Baker etc, many are first time signers in the U.K. and from a wide range of different areas.

 

Autographica is particularly strong in attracting space guests, and by this I mean real space guests, the brave and courageous astronauts and cosmonauts that have literally gone where no man or woman has gone before. They have had cosmonauts such as Alexi Leonov, Alexi is the first human ever to walk in space as part of the Vokshod 2 mission and also Valentia Terheshkova, the first woman ever in space and part of the Soviet Union's first ever group of Cosmonauts that also included Alexi and Yuri Gagarin.

 

They have had a numer of Astronauts, including moonwalkers, Charlie Duke and Ed Mitchell, and many other astronauts that took part in NASA's first steps into space.

 

Variety is normally the theme, and they have had England 66 players George Cohen , Jackie Charlton, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, Cricketing legends like Fred Trueman , a surivor of the Titanic, Milvina Dean to a Playboy Bunny, Victoria Zdrok.

 

Alongside these guests they brought us Hollywood A lister, Val Kilmer, and movie legends like Sir John Mills and Tippi Hedren.

 

There have been Bond guests, George Lazenby, Richard Kiel, Tanya Roberts, David Hedison, Gloria Hendry, Lana Wood etc

 

There have been Star Wars guests, Kenny Baker, Dave Prowse, Amy Allen, Alan Harris, Alan Ruscoe etc

 

There have been other cult stars, John Saxon from Enter the Dragon, Kevin McCarthy from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Gunnar Hansen from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Doug Bradley and Nikko Vance from Hellraiser, Erin Grey from Buck Rogers, Walter Koenig from the Original Trek, Larry Hagman (JR in Dallas) the list goes on

 

Last time around they brought us the first U.K. appearances of guests from classic Sci Fi/Fantasy , Lost In Space and Lands of the Giants in an Irwin Allen reunion.

 

You will find that there is a different atmosphere to events like Collectormania, and normally you get the chance to have a chat with the guests, although one or two, particularly the Space guests can be busy.

 

So, if you are looking for something a little different, you enjoy collecting autographs then come along this October.

We won't know the exact costs until the weekend, I wouldn't have thought, but if Garry or Dave have any info before hand that would be appreciated.

 

Based on previous shows , I would allow £20 - £30 for Space guests.

Pre order prices will be 10 pounds more than the expected guest price.

Without wanting to blow smoke out of Dave and Garrys rear ends. Autographica, in my humble opinion is without doubt the best show of its genre in the UK.

 

It brings many diverse personalities together under one roof and you can enjoy a big social ( and I mean big! ) at the dinner table and plenty of drinks in the bar after.

 

Maybe I'm a bit biased but over the last 2 years I've attended alot of these 'style' shows and this is the best by far. I've been to 4 Autographicas and they do exactly what they say on the tin, well website.

 

What I've found at this show is that its much more relaxed and no muppets wearing Red Dwarf T shirts, Star Wars pogs and showing a blatant disregard for personal hygene!

 

If you want to get in a buy some autographs you can. There are plenty of authentic and quality dealers at the show and if thats your bag then you're sorted. On the flipside of the coin if you wanna have a chin wag with someone thats walked on the moon or appeared in a bond movie, then Robert is you Uncle. And a very nice one at that.

 

As a radio presenter I've had the pleasure of interviewing a number of the guest at the shows and they find it as much fun as those who attend. This year you're really in for a treat. I met with Buzz Aldrin late last year and spent 90 minutes in his hotel room. He wasen't there I was just robbing it!! Boom-boom. Thats a joke by the way. Tell me another show in the UK that can get not only a crew member from Apollo 11 and 16 in the same venue and I'll eat my own Mic!

 

There is no air of arrogance with any of the guests and they are all normally very happy to talk shop, sign things and have piccies with you. If in doubt, go along and check it out. Its a blinder and I'm happy to say I've made some good friends from being at the shows.

I went to the Autographica in 2003, only had to stand in line once and that was for Val Kilmer, even then there were only three people in front of me.

 

Had a great time knocking back vodka with the Cosmonauts too!

This is sounding better and better, may not be able to go to the next one but will endeavour to save money for the following one, subject to what guests are announced
