One of the reply's to the treasured auto's thread got me thinking. Any forum members ever won any cool competitions and if so what where the prizes?

It was my first auto and the one that's my most treasured as I really love most of his work. I had the opportunity to go and see Empire of the Sun being filmed in my area and met Steven Spielberg. He was really nice and came over and talked to us all (I was with my fellow Brownies!) and gave us all his auto. It was really interesting to see a film being made, to see them repeating the takes and how the sets are constructed. It was nearly 20 years ago but I still remember it vividly.

Not if their names are David Hewlett and Joe Flanigan... I'm getting all jealous now!

Love Sam/Jack fics or indeed any Sam ones. Denise is an excellent author and I reccommend all of her stuff.

The only other limitation that I've ever been aware of is that clothing isn't allowed to be signed if you are actually wearing it.

Came out of my flat in Central London about 6 years ago and saw Patrick Stewart and a woman walking down the other side of the road. Also saw Brian Croucher on the Tube about a month and a half ago.

Getting to meet David Hewlitt from Stargate/Atlantis. He is such a nice, lovely friendly man and it was an absolute pleasure to meet him.

Well actually, you're wrong there. I remember a couple of years ago there was an event organised by a popular UK sci fi mag what went completely t*** up. Their guest list changed almost completely, twice, within a few weeks of the event date. They don't seem to have run another one since as far as I'm aware. Besides which a show with the amount of guests SM have there is always going to be a few cancellations/changes.

Besides which, even if it was a second cancellation why does he owe it to the fans? It is always clearly stated that guests appear according to work commitments which come first. If Actors turn down work to come to these events they risk not getting any more roles. I'm sure he will attend one of the events in the future we just have to wait. I had to go to 4 different events before I finally got to meet Teryl Rothery as she kept cancelling. Did I get annoyed about it? Not really, it just made it all the better when I finally did get to meet her.

Personally I loved him in Hidalgo.

Guess it depends who it is. The most I've eva paid for an unpersonalised autograph is £100. The most I've paid for a personalised one is £50. That was to meet David Boreanaz and to get a photo too. I was kinda cheeky and dismissed the event photo you were meant to use for a lifesize cut out. Did get it personalised though (with a big heart) after I joked he might need a bigger pen, so it pays to engage them in conversation if you can. Managed to get Christian Slater for free when he was in the westend so it pays to go to stage doors etc if you can. Would pay the sky for a chance to meet Mark Hamill though! Missed out? Jolene, Dean and Corin where there. OK, Dean was only in one ep, but still 3's better than none!

I must admit that whilst I would always prefer to meet the people in person and get their auto, I have bought a couple over the web from very reputable dealers (I know people will say even then you can't know for sure that they are real) but they are for people I will never meet. I.e. Richard Dean Anderson. He will probably never do a con/signing event so I decided to buy through a company associated with the show and the auto's are going to be a more genuine that many of the ones on Ebay. At the end of the day as long as i'm happy with them and believe they are real, that's all that matters.

I hate to be cynical but not necessarily. Depends on who they are from and how many other people have them. If it's from someone who is on the con circuit a lot and everyone in existance has their auto it won't be valuable! However I like getting the auto's because it makes the items more special for me and because I like to meet the guests.

Whilst i understand what you're saying Waterboy, have you not been reading what people are saying? Whilst I don't encourage needless whining, people do have a point. When you have to make significant/expensive (possibly non refundable) travel arrangements it must be incredibly frustrating not knowing who is attending. Most people can't just decide to go at the last minute. And what If you make these arrangements, book flights, hotels and take time off work on the basis that some really good and unmissable guests might be announced nearer the time. What If they aren't? People then get stuck with the costs of an event they have paid out for that they don't really want to attend? Also Earls Court might give them the scope to do more but if they haven't got the guests will that many people really go? If not as many as hoped visit, how many dealers will book for the next one? Whilst I love SM events and have attended all of their events in the last 2/3 years and was thrilled with the line up for LFCC2 (Massive Stargate fan) there is no-one yet I want to see at LFCC3. I'm sure that SM will suprise us all and I'm just sitting back and waiting for them to get back to us, but people have to remember that whilst we all accept that the guest lists are liable to change there are people out there that do have legitimate concerns with the lack of information. Anyway, on with show!

In fact I'm sure more people would go if SM got either a couple of big SW/LOTR/HP guests instead of ST people (Unless it was Patrick or s***ner)

Not at all, in fact if they could get any of the other main cast over as well it would be great to see them together.

Don't think it will happen though. I could be wrong but I get the feeling she is quite loyal to the other event.

Er Teryl has been over this year. Very recently infact.

Name means nothing to me so not bothered if he does get invited.
