  1. Heh, yeah, it's a really freakish mask - my mum was terrified of it.
  2. About a month ago I set myself a little art project – to create a costume based on the creatures from ‘The Village’. I’m obsessed with the film and I love the creatures, and so had always longed to own a creature costume. But of course, you can’t exactly buy them in the shops, so I thought ‘heck, I’m an art student, I’ll be creative and construct one from scratch!’ On Halloween, the costume was finally completed. Here are the results… First, a few ‘making of’ pics. The costume consisted of two parts that, by the time it was all finished, ended up being sort of fused together into one complete suit with a lot of safety-pins and fabric glue. The first part was the bodysuit underneath the cloak, which was simply a modified wolfman costume. I left the mask as it was, and the suit itself had all the shoulder-padding attached to it and was then attached to the cloak, but the main thing I modified was the gloves – I molded the long claws around the fingers of the gloves with ‘Rigid Wrap’ (a plaster-based material), and then attached the fur. Oh yeah, and I solved the creature’s feet by buying a pair of furry monster slippers. ^^ The second and most important part was of course the cloak, modified with spikes made from feather quills (along with smaller spikes carved from cane), which I then carefully, one by one, fed through the cloak, through the suit, and into the shoulder-padding, and sealed in place with a blob of fabric glue at the base of each spine. Pictures: The Gloves / The Feet / Cloak in the Making And now, the finished costume, worn by moi on Halloween! These first photos are blurry and dark to add mystery ooooh: Photo1 Photo2 Photo3 Photo4 Now some detailed photos: My favourite photo… Blah… And lastly, a few taken under UV light: Photo1 Photo2 Photo3 So what do you think? Is it worthy of a Collectormania costume competition?
  3. OMG!! Unbelievable! It has to be a set-up, surely! Dear lord... "I'm going to pluck with my twanger all day long..."
  4. I know what you mean. I keep on saying that I'm planning to come dressed as an Alien or a Creature from 'The Village', but seeing as I am completely lacking in the self-confidence department, I don't now how I'm going to manage it. Though I try to bear in mind that my face would be completely covered by the costume and so no one would know who the hell I am anyway. ^^ If I do decide to go ahead with making the Creature costume, then it will be ready by Halloween. However I seriously doubt I'll dress up for this event, since I've never been to a Film and Comic Con before.
  5. I might, might, come dressed as a Creature from 'The Village'. I'm actually planning the make the costume in time for this Halloween, in which case I'll post pics n see what y'all think. ^^ Does anyone know any good costume shops in or around London where I might be able to buy a cheap red cloak? I've been told that Camden is a good place to go for such things...
  6. I should have really posted this on the moment I got back from Milton Keynes on Sunday, but I've been too busy. These days it seems that I come for the toys, but don't stay for the guests. I always get excited about the guests because there's always at least one of my heroes there (this time it was the geek trio), but I spend so much time wandering around all the stalls, forcing my way through the endless crowds and buying loadsa stuff, that I'm always too tired out to face the emotional trauma of meeting an idol in person. I might have been persuaded to this time round, were it not for the fact that I heard that having your photo taken with the guests was no longer allowed. This put me off completely because it sounded really rubbish, but I need rumour control - has photo-taking been banned altogether, or was it just applied to particularly busy moments when they had to keep the queues moving along? I did see some pretty cool costumes though. Nothing that was on my most wanted list mind you, but still some cool ones. In fact, before I even got inside the building I saw a rather angry-looking hobbit getting some fresh air. Then there was the usual army of elves, and some cool Star Wars characters on parade too. Oh and if the guy who came dressed as The Crow on sunday is reading this, you were standing right behind me at one point. No creatures from 'The Village', though. Boo. Guess I'll just have to do it myself. ^^ So if at a future Collectormania you see a red-cloaked figure with spines and long claws stalking around, that'll most likely be me. But anyway, I did have loads of fun spending all me money. My haul this time was: An Alien wall-relief. A McFarlane 'Horrid' figure (reeeaally cool dragonish creature - got a £5 discount due to me using my trademark 'silent haggling' technique) McFarlane George and Blue Meanie figures A rare but surprisingly cheap 'Aqua Alien' toy But the best buy of the day had to be the plush Facehugger. I'd been searching for one of these babies for ages and it is so cool. Not surprisingly, it's very huggable. ^^ Oh and I also got a free AVP poster. Life is good. And that brings me to something else I've been wanting to say - from all of the posts I've read, it seems to me that most people here go to Collectormania for the guests and costumes more than anything else. So far I haven't really encountered anyone who goes for the same reason I do - to buy stuff. Isn't there anyone who goes to Collectormania to buy stuff for their collections? ^^;;
  7. Oooh the Twins, that would be so cool. They're my favourites. Ok, pictures pictures... A Xenomorph, or more commonly known as 'Alien'. - I know that there's a reasonable variety of pre-made Alien costumes already available, but as to how 'genuine' they look, I'm not sure... Predator - Nice detailed full-profile image, this one. Details on weapons as well. The Creatures from The Village are a very mysterious sort, and it's hard to find detailed images of them. I'll post a few for now, and if you're interested and want to see more (various angles, close-ups of claws, etc) then I'll upload more. However, for anyone who hasn't seen The Village and would prefer to remain spoiler-free concerning the appearance of the Creatures, don't click these links - One Two Three Peperami. Now, this was really only a silly suggestion, especially since you'd probably only end up dressed as Pep if you were actually sponsoring the product. But what the heck, I love the little masochist sausage, so here's a pic anyway - BLARGH Regan - Aaah look, she's smiling! People often dress up as Regan for Halloween since it's such an easy costume to make - just some evil make-up, fake scars, and a dirty nightdress, basically. The Twinsssss! Doc Ock
  8. I'm practically dribbling with excitement about Collectormania! (I'm going on the Sunday) Over the times I've been to the event, I've seen some wonderful costumes. But if anyone comes dressed as any of the following for Collectormania or the Film & Comic Con... - A Xenomorph - A Predator - A Creature from 'The Village' - The Peperami Man - Regan from 'The Exorcist' - The Twins from 'The Matrix Reloaded' - Doc Ock .....Then you'll probably find me jumping all over you and screaming. Of course, it's unlikely that anyone would be wearing such elaborate costumes, but still, one can dream. Actually, I myself would love to dress up as a Creature from The Village - not only do they look awesome, but it would also be a reasonably easy and affordable costume to make.
  9. Oh man, I would LOVE to meet Steve. He's my idol, seriously. We share the same enthusiasm for reptiles. Wait a minute... Is Steve a Spongebob fan?? That is so cool.
  10. *nods* I love all the Bunny spoofs. I think the Exorcist one always makes me laugh the most, but Alien comes close. For some reason, hearing "He's a god-damn robot" in a chipmunk voice cracks me up no end.
  11. Maybe the circulation of Alien props just happened to be in town at the right time. Also because of AVP I expect, and simply because Aliens is one of the best films everrrr. Why not have an Alien-themed comic con? There hasn't been anything like it for a while. And if they have a life-size Alien Queen prop there, I think I will explode with joy.
  12. I would love to see some alien or predator costumes running amok! I would probably kidnap them.
  13. Aaah, Dragonheart is one of my most favourite films ever. I saw it when it first came out at the cinema!
