  2. What a brave story- and well done for telling it with such honesty and openness. You might have just written it as a way to release stress but you have no idea how much you might have helped someone in the process. We all show up at cons wanting to have a good time, roaming around amongst masses without necessarily engaging with one another. Little do we know that a person we might have briefly brushed shoulders with is privately suffering inside. It is a reminder for me to not only show everyone and anyone compassion and love, but there might be more to the person in the line in front of you who is shaking like a leaf while meeting their idol. Doesn't mean they're just having a silly fan freak out, it could be mental health related and very serious. I will ensure in future that I'm always one of those people who can offer an arm or a hand to someone nervous, anxious or frightened at a con. My sister and I were in a talk and she was too nervous to ask Jon Bernthal a question, though she'd been looking forward to meeting him since first watching his The Walking Dead. I was so impressed and proud that she changed her mind, asked for the mic and asked him (coherently and with articulation) a well thought out question, which he answered with both detail and gratitude. Her confidence grew, and she even approached him later in the day to thank him and he was incredibly sweet and kind to her. A great reminder of how getting over our fears, particularly with the aid of someone we look up to, can be achieved even at a seemingly irrelevant event like a con. Please keep up the good progress - I can tell how hard a journey it is (though I'll probably never know what it's like to suffer the same way) but you are worth the fight. All best to you, Buddy :)
  3. My third LFCC, and I gotta say it was the most enjoyable, largely due to staff being more lovely, relaxed and helpful than previous ones. Maybe coz it was a smaller event. Anyways, it was a lot of fun. Thanks Showmasters! Great work.
  4. Yes, I picked up on that as well I guess having kids there, did think what he said under his breath about the kid who stood up and asked the question was a bit out of order. I am always a bit tense about this. There's just no need for it. LFCC has always been the type of event you can bring families too, so the cursing and sexual references during talks always makes me a bit mad. It needs to be kept mild, IMO. There's still a way to make it fun/funny without resorting to the offensive and inappropriate. I wouldn't bring my kids to a talk because I'd be worried they'd hear something crude.
  5. Valid point, that would have frustrated me too. Although, to be fair, sometimes it's the guests who show up late for the talks. A certain Saturday guest appeared about 5-8 mins late and the luckily the host did a decent job of keeping the crowd entertained meantime. Did anyone else think that talk audiences this year weren't very... vocal? In Jon B's Sat talk and also the Star Trek one both Jon and host Dave were really animated and funny but everything landed awkwardly because the audience just wouldn't laugh out loud. Very few questions asked too.
  6. Anyone know the name of the host? He always does a great job; really witty and able to get the crowd going. Would be good to know his name by now.
  7. Very sweet. I saw a guy approach her when she was on her way out from the green room and she stopped and chatted. Was very warm and greeted fans without being approached too.
  8. Nicest guy ever. Really friendly, bordering on shy Answered questions articulately and humbly. Smiled a lot, shook hands, acted appreciatively and just generally a cool dude.
  9. Anyone know if photo op and autograph tickets will be available to purchase at the event, or only from the online shop?
  10. I spoke to a woman from Showmasters today via phone, who said that apparently press packs will be sent out today and tomorrow (Tues).... I haven't received mine yet either.
  11. Question: last year I bought tickets while awaiting confirmation on press passes, which didn't come until later, meaning I needn't have bothered buying tickets in the first place. As press passes aren't confirmed until 7-10 days before the event- and as the online shop closes soon- would it be wise for me to buy tickets now, in case my passes aren't approved? It seems like another waste of money to do so, but I don't want to risk not getting passes and then being denied (early) access to the event when tickets have gone off sale. Thanks!
  12. No freakin way!! Can seriously not believe my luck that I won't be in London for LFCC this year, Sarah pretty much tops my list of desired guests!! Life's not fair
  13. HAHA! "Please....? Please....? Please....?"
  14. I don't doubt that Gillian is keen to sign on should it ever be greenlit. Sadly, the issue is that there's nothing to report on it thus far... In recent times, Chris Carter has given off the impression that something has been in earlier stages of development (a script, treatment or pitch). But it's a little unknown as to whether it's FOX who are stalling, or whether Chris Carter is opposed to deal negotiations, story, director, producers, etc. The box office figures from IWTB weren't fantastic but FOX knows that there's enough fan interest to promise cinema seats will be filled. More importantly for FOX/Carter is that the story would be chosen carefully this time and in accordance to what fans (and a new audience) would expect from a sci-fi so heavily angled towards alien conspiracy.
  15. As I mentioned in my previous reply, there is a cost to the talks, in that the guest is not bringing in revenue unless the talks are paid. Christopher Lloyd may have been free last year, but he had to stay until 7 signing autos to meet as many people as possible (to his credit), which means a fair number of people who wanted to meet him didn't get the opportunity. Not sure how him doing a talk uncharged made any difference to the amount of people who were able to get his autograph... I'm not entirely begrudging them charging, but to charge the same price that's charged for autos and photos (where there's less of a chance the paying customer is left disappointed) is a bit too much imo. As someone said earlier, £8 or as I said £5 (depending on guests) sounds a fairer deal. As loads of people attend talks, that's still a lot of money being brought in, and due to it being a lower price would probably get people like me who have spent so much already, swayed into paying a bit more for their favourite guests :) Agreed! If it was a more structured Q&A- perhaps hosted- I can even understand a higher charge. But in Gillian Anderson's talk 3/4 of questions the audience came up with were sadly quite stupid, and the poor sound system only made miscommunication between Gillian and foreign attenders in particular (no offense!) even worse. The event turned out to be a bit of a rip off for £25. Controllable factors like a decent sound system and a reasonable price would be appreciated for next time
  16. Pricing sounds fair to me- although perhaps not as high as £10-£25. £8 seems more accurate. As long as those attending are given their money's worth in terms of quality of sound, seating, etc then it's pretty standard that a profit must be made. You can only hope for guests to do their part to make it worthwhile, and for the most part they were excellent.
  17. I read your tumblr post about your LFCC experience, sounds like you had a fun time :) I didn't get autographs but Nicholas Lea was a really cool guy to chat with, like I find most Canadians are.
  18. I met Brian, who was so lovely, enthusiastic and appreciative of the attention. What a total pro.
  19. Glad someone agrees All I've heard are good accounts- and I'm not saying peoole aren't entitled to have enjoyed it but I really felt like her answers were often at the audience members' expense. She probably was expecting (or at least hoping!) for better questions though. And I hold no biased, as she actually answered mine gracefully and genuinely. But I did feel sorry for pretty much everyone else, who got a lackluster or defensive reply. I don't remember the last question, which was it?
  20. At least there was alot of other things to do or see. It was one of the top things on my list but I didn't leave the event dissappointed at not finding it.
  21. Again- thanks for saying so, as I felt so stupid for missing it after 20 minutes or so of searching!
