Legendary Italian comics creator making his first UK appearance.

Milo Manara, the well-known illustrator of adult graphic novels, began his career working on "fumetti", the cheap illustrated paperbacks popular in 1950-60s Italy. In 1976, his career took off after his work for the illustrated magazine Pilote. He also became known for his work designing posters for the films of Federico Fellini. The two later collaborated on comic books versions of some of Fellini's films.

 

In the 1980s, Manara turned towards the field of erotic graphic novels, writing and illustrating such titles as "Click!", "Butterscotch", and "Gullivera", (an erotic version of "Gulliver's Travels").

 

In 2003, Manara's work featured on the cover of Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro's second studio album "The Vertigo of Bliss". Manara also created the artwork for all the singles released from this album.

In 2006 Manara designed a helmet for Moto GP rider Valentino Rossi, specifically made for the Italian GP in Mugello. He then went on to develop character designs for the animated television series City Hunters.

Manara penciled an X-Men project written by Chris Claremont for Marvel Comics. X-Men: Ragazze in fuga was released in April 2009 in Italy this was later reprinted by Marvel Comics in English as X Men: Women.

This year will see him illustrating variant covers for issues of Marvel comic books.
