Quantum of Solace

Saw it last night and was very disappointed. The obviously rushed script was the main gripe, which for me caused the film never to click. May be the sheer quality of Casiono Royale raised the bar too high and expectations were going to be very hard to meet.

The only good points were Craig (naturally) and Judi Dench, plus the opera scene was very good.

I'm hoping with time I will warm to it more, but currently I'm annoyed with the decision to rush it out as it feels like a compromise too many has been made taking the franchise a step back rather than forward.

A crying shame.

I enjoyed it as well, but like you I felt it was too short. It's not that I have a problem with shorter films, its just that with this one I felt like it could have benefited from about another 15-20 minutes. Dominic Greene could have been developed a bit more and it could have just allowed for a bit more humour which I think is all it really lacked. Not that I want Roger Moore style out and out comedy but I think Daniel Craig is very capable of delivering quite a nice line in dry humour which I would liked to have seen a bit more of.

Then again I guess this was supposed to be the revenge film so it may well be a case of seeing what Bond 23 brings us, maybe that will be the full bells and whistles Bond film that we might normally expect.

I think I and many others are being too harsh on Quantum, but this is because as a sequel and follow-up to Casino Royale, it falls a bit too short of the mark. It's just too under-developed (proved by the short running time) and when you've got Daniel Craig, it deserves to be more.

Quantum is far from being a bad movie. In fact it's good and at times very good, but there's something not quite right with it and I believe another 3-6 months pre-production could have fixed a few problems. Blame the greedy writers strike, I certainly do!!

Saw it yesterday and thought it was great. Different from previous films ( i.e. gadgets etc.. ) but a really good film. Would like to see the Bond franchise move in a more 'thriller' direction, but agree it was a bit short.

Reviews that say it is poor are greatly exaggerated !

I'd revise that slightly, I'd say it was more like Casino Royale felt like England qualifying for the world cup against the odd a la Sven in 2002 but Quantum was more like drawing 1-1 with Sweden in the first match, by no means the worst result but maybe not quite as good as we hoped for but there is still the promise of even better to come which may put the Sweden result into context, just like Beating Argentina did in 2002!
