RainbowDisney
To further Daniels post : SCI FI Channel's "Stargate Atlantis" will begin production later this month on its fifth original season. The new 20-episode season will include the series' benchmark 100th episode. Produced and distributed by MGM Television, Stargate Atlantis is filmed in Vancouver, Canada. As "Atlantis" speeds toward its centennial episode, the "Stargate" universe promises new and surprising developments. The status quo is shaken following the events of season 4 (currently airing on SCI FI, Friday nights at 10pm) some cherished friends are lost, others are found. New alliances are forged while new races are introduced. Robert Picardo, whom "Stargate" fans will recognize as International Oversight Committee rep "Richard Woolsey," joins the "Stargate Atlantis" cast this season as Woolsey assumes command of the Atlantis expedition. The team, led by Lt. Colonel Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), Teyla (Rachel Luttrell), Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite), must adjust to his unique leadership style. Fan favorite Paul McGillion, will return for five episodes to reprise his role as the beloved "Dr. Carson Beckett." Amanda Tapping ("Colonel Samantha Carter"), who remains a fixture of the "Stargate" universe, will appear as a special guest star in several episodes this season and "Stargate SG-1" star Michael Shanks ("Dr. Daniel Jackson") will appear as a special guest in episodes as well. zebredy
Another reason not to watch it... What they gona do in season 6 hey, get rid of someone else and replace them with yet another person, or just give there possition to another member of the team, long term? They replaced a civilian (DR Weir) with a member or the Air Force (Dr Carter), only to then replace that member of the USAF with another none (fully trained) USAF character WTF? To many changes in Atlantis for my liking, how are you suposed to get to know the whole team, the team is always changing, and if the characters keep changing how are they all going to gell properly? I could understand the changes in Stargate (I didn't like them but could understand them) the characters grew on me, and it helped that I had time 2/3 seasons to get to know there character, but Atlantis seems to be gaining and loosing characters/actors like there was no tomorrow, giving me no time to see how the team worked with each other. It takes more then a season (for me) too make a winning team It just seems like SG-1 are now slowly taking over Atlantis character by character, who will be next hey? Ben Browders character? LLAP The reason that I have seen given and I am quite prepared to believe it too is that Amanda Tapping didn't want to sign up to any more Stargate Atlantis. She is involved in Sanctuary and I believe that is what she wanted to spend more time on!! I can understand why. She has already done ten years in the Stargate universe. I for one am looking forward to see what they do with Woolsey. I have a soft spot for the character.

I'd read somewhere that the main reason Amanda reduced her commitment was that Sanctuary has been commissioned to be made into a TV series (not just web series) so if this is true then there would be no way she could possibly do both (and as she is the main character and the Producer of Sanctuary then I don't blame her - there is no contest really about which one she would do) .....and I rather like Woolsey too. Picture him and McKay stuff off-world somewhere - that could be very very funny Edited March 28, 2008 by sadfan99
