  1. Anita Dobson did an LFCC. (might have been the same one as John Altman) Leslie had at least been in Doctor Who (as have a number of EastEnders past and present) and did several signings and conventions as result. Anita had only done an audio story.
  2. We've been through this a couple of times, though we do have reached a new low with idiots tweeting the guest directly. We get this discussion after pretty much every "big guest announcement" thread in fact. But SM like the way the announcement threads are done and unless they see really big issues now I doubt this will be changed. Certainly a new low most would consider unacceptable, but unless you are going to ban such fans (after a final warning) then the unacceptable is being accepted. As you say SM like doing it the way they do - I believe Jason as said its like a Christmas present, where you get the build up to a surprise , why spoil it? But kids do throw almighty tantrums if they don't get the present they want too. The other saying is its all fun and games until someone gets hurt. If guest relations are getting hurt maybe it is time to reconsider the game. Personally, I don't play the game any more. Announcement at 7pm? I looked at 8pm. I refer you the part where you say kids throw almighty tantrums.... in my opinion that one sentence defeats your own point. We arent kids, im pretty sure the people acting like idiots on twitter, forums, etc are mostly not kids - you cannot in anyway justify their actions or sympathise with these adults by saying its a normal reaction for kids! its bad enough how much we molly coddle people in this country anyway, at no point should we have to change our way of doing things just because of some idiots out there who mentally never outgrew puberty. I was going to say people rather than kids - adults can throw tantrums too and it can be very funny! - but certainly in my family the adults aren't teased about surprises and led to expect something that's never a realistic possibility. Surprises come without any pre-warning so no room for disappointment. I suppose it could as much a frustration that they can't air their disappointment here. They can't (or rather will see it deleted) since if they were allowed then the guest/agent only might see it. But taking it direct to the actor on twitter overrides that moderation the actor will see it, and well as a wider audience. So perhaps its the opposite of 'if you wanted to be treated like an adult behave like an adult'. Treat your customers like kids it only takes one to behave like one

  4. . However you could argue the case it would be better for the actors if their autograph prices were lowered by £5 for the last two hours on a quieter Sunday, rather than have them twiddle their thumbs till home time. Then I would go and get my autographs on the last 2 hours on Sunday if they where cheaper and I don't think I would be alone in doing that ! Just think of the money I would be saving ! It rather defeats the object as the last 2 hours of Sunday would get Mega Busy ! It will never happen at a Showmasters event, but it's not unheard of at other shows where guests are directly in charge of their tables. Some will cut a deal towards the end of the day, they have nothing to loose. Most people would just like to get in and out as quickly as possible, rather than chance it.
  5. The thing is though the programmes have a very limited shelf life - like fresh food - can't reuse them again next time. It costs to destroy. Oh you wouldn't believe the amount of free food I could have picked a few years ago on Christmas Eve, having working earlier that day. I took as much as I could carry. Photoshoots on the otherhand, are done to demand. No leftovers. However you could argue the case it would be better for the actors if their autograph prices were lowered by £5 for the last two hours on a quieter Sunday, rather than have them twiddle their thumbs till home time.
  6. SM give as much notice as possible, so if it's a case of Matt Smith announced the day before, or no Matt Smith at all I bet I can guess which option you'd take. In my case it would be the later. Whilst I have maybe 5 (more) things I'd like signed by him I wouldn't have them on me. I might be able to buy one of them again at the show - but those other 4 would annoy me until his next show. I can't be that annoyed if a guest is never attending in the first place.
  7. I think it was at one of the shows I was introduced to Crispy Onion (its more an a American thing) which I developed quite a taste for. I already had quite a taste for ketchup (there's more of than in my veins than the other red stuff), but I quite like a cheap and nasty one from time to time. The only problem is the price.
  8. Didn't work that way at the event I went to and prebooked, in fact I had to leave my place in the queue just before meeting the guest in question, to just make it to a screening in time, and then went back another day. They simply sold autographs for their guests away from their tables, so it didn't matter if you bought a month before or 5 minutes before, they knew how many they'd sold.
  9. Yeah with all these guests I have to check the forum if I've met before (there can't be many more I keep telling myself) and I see he was the first time unnamed stormie at Collectomania 22 in 2014. I then look at the rest of the guest list to see if I went. I didn't.
  10. I only joined with the 11AM arrivals so it was quite busy then. Could have done with more seats for the talks.
  11. I could justify over £100 for Harrison Ford, on the basis a Han Solo is at least worth 10 stormtroopers Only fantasy in that no one would invite him and expect most of us would pay that much for him. He was at the last event in the US and probably would have signed my books for free, except rather than go ask him I didn't want to lose my place in an oversubscribed queue to see Episode 3 in 3D
  12. Not a bad turn out for a first event considering the number of cancellations - I only needed two autos so got those went for a walk before the Who talk. Could have done with more room for the talk I can't go again tomorrow as the bus I'd need (other side of Exeter doesn't run Sundays Same weekend next year I see.
  13. LFCC 2006 for Carrie Fisher. Guess that makes this year my tenth anniversary.
  14. Looking online I can't see any, and the only ones within a mile charge you to withdraw.
  15. I think the reason there's an increase in people asking is partly due to there now being so many events - and some of the same guests ARE being announced for them. Lance Henriksen and Kristanna Loken are down for three each. They tend to get announced for all at once though, but people could miss that.
  16. It is a good price, will consider getting a third one if next month isn't too expensive. But I'm curious why he is £60 here and €65.00 in Amsterdam - since that is closer to £51. This week at least.
  17. But since its gone to three days it sounds like it will just be ran in one hall on the Friday whilst the rest is set up. Out of interest where did you read that, I may have missed it. There are quite a few guests who will be there on Friday and all the stalls will presumably be there as well so I'd think it'd be all set up already and set out the same as it will be for Saturday and Sunday. I have certainly heard nothing about that either. I was taking from Jason's closing post about the loss of Thursday, but I can see now I might have been mis-interpreting how he means 'be ready'. 'I think everyone knows that with the much bigger halls available to us we can space everything out so that there is the room to do all what you need on the Friday to be ready for the full on days on Sat and Sun. Tthis is the first year where we have the right amount of space. We feel so that everyone will be happy and be able to get around in a good way. So that's why the preview night is not happening.'
  18. There have been Friday only guests before, just not the big ones most of you get overexcited about. When it was a four day event Friday was billed as being as full day - so no reason that couldn't include exclusives - there might be big guests who couldn't make the weekend so be daft to turn them away. But since its gone to three days it sounds like it will just be ran in one hall on the Friday whilst the rest is set up.
  19. It will probably be limited to 1 item per person like the last time we were in Earls Court, since he is only signing for an hour.
  20. Not me, I've spent 1000s on Star Wars autographs over the past 20 years, but as it was, that was a finite collection. Since Disney it's become infinite - so I'm just sticking to Episodes 1-6, otherwise I'd be spending the rest of my life doing it, as well as having to get Mark and Carrie again. And I think its more fun taking a back seat and leaving the running around to the next generation. Just enjoy the films as films. As I said on the other thread, its all the small £10 guests lacking so far for me. Right now I've three guests I want - one Sat/Sun, one Sat, one Sun. I'm seriously considering just doing Sunday. Big hitters great. Might get one or two good for me. Small hitters, I can spent £100 on the right small hitter if not met before.
