  1. I don't know it's just this bleedin' great seabird Well what flavour is it?
  2. I think these great events should stay with the Film, comic and Cult TV, I.E. the whole fantasy genre. In my experience very few people who do the convention/shows like both Fantasy and football. The Sci Fi group I belong to has 30 members and only one member can name all division one teams (or whatever there called these days), much less support a team. If SM does "sportmania" than I do not see many of the LOTR or SW fans turning up, so SM has to start from nothing again to get a different customer base. Its a lot of work and I don't see it happeneing. I agree with ignoring the football guests at the mixed event but you may notice everyone dose. There's never a queue for them. Also the dealers at SM are not really set out for football fans, neither are the special events so really what insentive is there for sports only fans to come to the events. I don't see this working also because outside the world cup you don't really get "football" fans you only get fans of a perticular team (hence Calumn wants Chelsea players) so I don't see the same fans coming back again and again. Sorry Calumn this is definatly NOT a good thing. You may know a lot of sports clebs by name but to most of the regular visitors to the events there just a bloke kicking a ball or that bloke whos running round that track. In my opinion if there is any risk of a footballer taking a spot away from an actor than it would just cheapen the whole experience for everyone. If no extra money was spent getting the guest I would have no objection to them coming, I would just be ignoring them for the weekend. However with the fees they normally charge can you see one doing an event for less than a substantial ammount? Calumn you seem quite enthusiastic about this, perhaps you should organise a "sportmania" yourself. Basil

  5. Terry Jones was going to do a Cult TV event but pulled out due to work commitments. Both Terry and Michael have recently done a talk at the National Film Theatre. Now everyone repeat after me... We are the fans who say Ni. Ni. Ni. Ni. Basil. P.S. Ni

  11. Yeah like we miss the Monkey in a Dagget suit the 70s Disco feel and not to mention the bad plotlines (the cylon as a Cowboy episode, the incredible cloning Brett England double episode etc, etc). And what was with there attitudes? There worlds have been destroyed and theres only a few thousand people left and yet its still done with a Star Trek feel good have a laugh as the Dagget falls over at the end of the show kind of way. I am also an older fan and I think the new IMPROVED BG is the best Sci Fi being made at the moment ( though I reserve judgment on Doctor Who and the Farscaspe mini series untill I see them). The new episodes were only commisioned after the Mini series did so well, so somehow a few fanboys wingeing on your links is not proof of anything. I think the quote after the preview you are talking about was I don't see any problems there. The main danger to this so far excellently written show is the Sci Fi channel and Bonnie Hammer cutting funding for no reason like they did with Farscape. However I think that would cause a far bigger reaction from the fanbase than the murmurings I've heared from your lot. Yes Richard Hatch's promo looked very good and his books that the show would have been based on were well thought out but this version has earned itself a few seasons life at least. Besides with the quantity of Sci Fi being made today who can afford to be choosy? Be gratefull for what BG you can get. Oh and Starbuck is a woman Deal with it. Basil P.S. BG guests for any SM event will be most welcome.
  12. I've said this before but I'll say it again. BRING ON THE MARINES!! Basil
  13. I was lucky enough to get his auto at the Thunderbirds premiere. He seemed a really friendly guy and though I have him, he'll be a very popular guest. NOW BRING ON THE MARINES!! Basil
  14. Forget Stargate talks, there a dime a dozen. What about an Aliens talk. Basil
  15. Do you mean the Hard plastic "protectors"? I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. For transport I use a normal ring binder style plastic insert (the thin plastic A4 covers that you can then slide into a ring binder) with an A4 size pice of card in it to keep it flat. This can be taken from the back of an A4 pad or something like that. The solid plastic "protectors" press down onto the picture which means your scraping it putting your photo in or taking it out. Basil
  16. I always take my own pens to stop bad colour matches and this sort of accident. (Uni Poscas are the best) If you find that the ink is coming away you can get a sealent/fixative normally used to seal a pencil drawing to stop it smudging. I had this problem with a Dido auto and this fixed it right up. Basil
  17. I am also a "hardened" Auto collector. I am also a fan. If you can't afford to pay for the auto at the event, you either have no money or are more likely a dealer just trying to get a free auto so you can sell it on to a real fan. Are you one of the "collectors" who "Boo" at a celeb at a premiere if they don't sign for you? I for one feel better having celebs who are at a place to sign. If you have to pay so what? You still get the auto and you know you haven't disturbed the celeb. For those who don't collect outside events let me explain. It's the dealers that cause stars to stop signing autos at all. Imagine the same few faces that turn up at a stage back door night after night and if the celeb dosen't sign they usually get heckled. These signitures are then sold to dealers for around £5 - £20 and then charged to you for ££££££. Alison Hanigan got very annoyed signing for a while outside her play because of one dealer who was turning up before and after performances every day for autos so s/he could make money on them. I've had these people boasting to me on how they sneaked in through a back door of a charity signing so that they wouldn't have to pay. These people are SCUM. Sometimes I'm asked at premieres "do you know which hotel Mr X is staying in" or "Where's the after show party". You know then that the person is usually a dealer or someone looking to sell autos to a dealer. I for one only do "official" events as a rule (Theaters, Premieres, Cons, award ceremonies, Signing events like Collectomania.) and though I have donated a few autos have never sold one on at a profit. As for talking and sharing info thats a different site and is definitely not a tool for dealers to make fans lives any harder. This thread is disrespectful to the celeberities. It's disrespectful to SM (the organisres) and it's disrespectful to the proper fans/ autograph collectors. It also shows you up as being cheap. Basil
  18. Went in to the box office on my lunch break and can confirm that the talk is cancelled. I even got my money refunded Basil
  19. If you want to know signing dates you should join an autograph Forum. Emotional Vampire runs a very good one which is the reason I got my Ian Holm tickets a few months ago. I would put down the link for you but SM doesn't want to advertise it because it also mentions the other inferior show that shall not be mentioned. Basil
  20. Should that have read "marines", or am I missing something? If not, it conjures up a great image! That'll teach me to read before I post. LOL Basil
  21. I'll be buying a multi photo for the cast of Atlantis but I agree completely with this thread. BRING ON THE MARIES!!!! Basil
  22. As much as I love the glossy photos I would rather have the matt pics then the egotistical SM address in the corner of a glossy. Arn't we paying you lot enough? Why are you making it harder for us to get a quality autos from your event. Sort your pens out (black and silver sharpies are not enough!) and stop graffiting your pics with a web address we already know about! (deep breaths...finding happy place...count to ten) Rant over. But please have some pride in your product (I wont even start on out of focus Jake Lloyd photos at the last event). I'll still keep an eye out for good photos and pack my own pens. Basil
  23. Come on guys it has to be Michael Bien to trump Lance Henrickson. Basil
