  1. I love the smell of Val Kilmer in the morning
  2. Loads of the episodes are still cut to shreds, slimline packaging or not.
  3. Ashley Judd won't even admit that she was ever in Star Trek. Her time playing Robin Lefler is, according to Jonathan Frakes, a complete blank.
  4. ? Thats a bit wierd, what you on about? it means exactly what it means. think about it, it's not rocket science.
  5. unless showmasters have got spiner to convince stewart to turn up for at least one whole day of signing, I can't see him turning up for one second. this really does smell like christopher lee all over again, and is just to get some interest in an event which has been pretty lame for the last 2 years. neither dreyfuss or lee turned up last year, don't expect stewart to either. different whistle, same old tune.
  6. Very original announcement by the Showmasters Total Lack of Original Ideas department. SM Memo: "Lets's see what guests other event organisers get and then have them a few months later." If SM are going to copy what others have already done, they should at least try and improve on it. So far, they're not even close.
  7. COOL, LETS HOPE HE TURNS UP :) I think you've already answered your own doubts about this annoucement. This has the same smell of Christopher Lee about it. And that's a really bad smell.

  9. Well I was at that event and they were by far the most popular guests with the biggest queues, besides Michael Winslow has done lots of other things, I will be getting him for "Spaceballs" Neither of them had any sort of queue when I was there, nor did I see them sign for anyone at all. And the whole place was heaving. Perhaps the members of their fan club all went to see them on the other day of the event. Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace - Lost - one of the most popluar shows at the moment, Lou Gossett Jr Oscar Winner, David Wenham 1st time signer and a main LOTR actor, Peter Graves - airplane, A Divoff & Alex Vincent representing horror.... A couple of small time tv actors from a flash in the pan show who won't have any longevity in their careers, and a guy who's had small parts in The Two Towers and Van Helsing, the rest of his resume consisting of stuff only seen in the budget rental section of your local Blockbuster and, wait for it cos this is good. YES! Appearances in a barely remembered 80's Australian soap. With expectations that low, SM can't possibly fail you.
  10. Sure, appeal to the masses. But that doesn't neccessitate having many guests repeated over and over. Since the increase in SM events over the last year, their guests lists have become stale, predictable and often weak. Any first timers they've bought in are nearly always actors from the bottom of a Buffy episode cast list, Potter, or LOTR film. The last MK Collectormania had one headliner in Lance Henrikson, and that was it. Ok, so who's the bloke from Police Academy? SM clearly didn't take note of how unpopular the last guests from this franchise were the last time any of them appeared at a UK event. I think that's becoming less and less true of late.
  11. It seems as though Wil Wheaton is running away in this poll. Here's hoping Showmasters can convince him to take some rescue remedy and make the flight to another show UK. Knocking him out like this might also work though. If you read Wil's website, I think he makes a point of being unwilling to travel overseas and leaving his wife and children which I can understand. He gives the impression he's left acting and the convention circuit behind him, and that he's settled down to a quiet author's life out of the limelight. I don't think he'll ever been seen again at an event outside of the US.
  12. They'd have to get themselves out of the box first. A paper bag would cause them problems even on the best of days. All most teenage girls/early 20 somethings want are ad nauseum repeat Buffy/LOTR guests, and that's what they're given. That places SM under no pressure to think outside the box. Can't we have a few proper classy old school actors from time to time? The whole event calendar is in real need of some good quality guests if people are expected to fork out 20 quid for a signature. I'm looking at quite a few guest lists for upcoming events and wondering why the organisers didn't leave their labotomy until after they'd arranged the guests.

I'd like to add another guest to my list: Garrett Wang. I was hoping to meet him at another event but as I don't have a job at the moment I couldn't afford to go Could anyone WITH a job afford to go to that event?
  14. Not the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday in January by any chance?
  15. Unless SM suddenly announce Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, I think from a footballing perspective, this kind of event is about to be done much better somewhere else.

I agree with a lot of what you say Wubble. TV is run by the numbers more so than ever. If your not on a network like HBO or Sci-Fi you have to come out of the traps flying Look at what happened to Firefly. A brilliant show but because it didn't find a big audience in it's first few shows it was canned. To be honest, I don't think the drop off in interest in Trek is down to it's quality but rather the fact that it had reached saturation point. Trek has been here for 40 years. When Voyager finished I felt that Trek needed a break. Enterprise was one show too many. The same can be seen at conventions. Youngsters over the last 10 years haven't been as into Trek as they've been into Buffy, Angel, Stargate, etc. The audiences at Trek cons over the last few years seem older and older. I was in Vegas last year and there were very few young people, by that I mean 20 or younger. It's not 'hip' to been a Trek fan (was it ever?) JJ Abrams has a tough job on his hands. He has to make Trek 'HOT' again. I'm not sure if that can happen. Then again, I'm not really sure if I want it to happen. If he can produce a good movie, that is well marketed and finds a good audience to reap a decent box office take, then I'll be happy. Showmasters have a good idea. Bring together fans of many different shows, let them mix and mingle. Let them share their enthusiasm. Maybe the days of big Trek cons are over but then I'm not sure if any one show could retain a big con audience over a number of years. In another few years, there won't be huge crowds for a LOTR con or a LOST con. Trek cons had huge numbers when it was pretty much all that Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans had to gather around. Those days are over. Here's to the future. Totally in agreement!
  17. Please bear in mind this thread was started in the hope of generating interest and to encourage SM, not the opposite. I'm trying to be polite here when I say can we please try to respect that? OK, he wasn't the best guest but the other cast members would be nice to have and I'd still like to meet Weller again regardless just for the sake of his auto. Other actors from the film would be great. Nancy Allen, Kurtwood, Ronny. It's a shame Dan O'Herlihy died last year although he'd have been too old to do an event even if he was still with us. But with the respect you asked for, Weller very probably isn't going to happen again. I doubt any of the others are either to be honest. Enough people have asked for long enough. So you can assume SM's have asked and that it's come to nothing. They won't ever tell us that it's come to nothing, but after a while you have to start assuming that some guest requests are a dead end. Place yourself in SM's position. Would you want Weller back if you were the one who had to look after him and his ego?
  18. That was at C4 waaay back in 2003!! I enjoyed meeting him and WLTM more from Robocop. We've had much worse guests return. SM gotta eat! And he is Robocop after all, one of the most iconic/memorable/popular movie robots ever. He was also in David Cronenberg and William S. Burrow's Naked Lunch PLUS 24 with a couple of the others. I don't think you quite remember what the issues with Weller were at C4. He didn't want to be there, he had no queue for all the days he appeared, most of the kiddies didn't have a Scooby who he was, and from about Friday afternoon onwards had to be chained to his seat to stop him going back to Heathrow. On top of that, he was just plain weird. Having said that, I'd like to meet him again. But I doubt SM would want the hassle even if Weller wanted to come. Kurtwood and or Ronny Cox would be a much better bet.

I'm sorry but I don't quite agree.. I went specifically for Colm.. but lethargy for low attendances.. no.. The real reason is cost.. far too expensive, particularly just the other side of Xmas.. Yes, it was expensive. But aren't they all expensive now? Given what a lot of other events with far inferior guests charge for day admission, I thought the Saturday in London was as near to decent value as you'll get these days. And the Sunday with Patrick was very good value as long as you didn't want his signature. I don't think they do much research in to the times they hold events in the UK, although it being 2 weeks after Christmas has never had a noticeable impact on attendence before. If you look at previous London events held by them, they've only ever packed the place out with either a Star Trek Captain or Leonard Nimoy. Perhaps that says something about what many Trek fans now want before they're prepared to go an event. another show needs to take note of this.

I don't disagree with any of the replies to what I said. But these facts still remain: US TV is all about the numbers. Over the course of 4 seasons, Enterprise's viewing figures dropped like a stone. They were good to start off with, but then they plummeted. You can argue until your blue in the face about how UPN killed the show, and I'd agree with some of that arguement. It's true the station didn't give a rats ass about the show after the top brass changed. But in the cold light of day, the show was scrapped because the vast majority of Trek fans who tuned in at the start tuned back out pretty quickly. The point about how TNG and all the other subsequent Trek shows had ropey beginnings is well used by fans to defend Enterprise, and it's true. But in the current climate of advertising regulating if a show lives or dies, you can't have ropey beginnings. If the viewer numbers fall consistently over a few weeks, the axe falls. Sagart, I salute you for going to Trek conventions because you want to be there for things other than the guests. But you're in a declining minority. There are others like you. I applaud them too as long as they don't validate the rip off culture of many organisers by paying hundreds of pounds to go to events which offer them nothing. You can't run an event off the minority of fans who now turn up regardless of the cost and offering. The London event had Colm Meaney, about as big and as rare a quality Trek guest as you can get. Next to no one turned up. Why? You can say it was chucking with rain in London all day and that kept people away. You can say the Pound/Dollar exchange rate kept the Yanks away. You can say the event was just too expensive. But are these really the reasons? The real reason has to be Trek fan lethargy.
  21. You missed him last year in Birmingham? Yeah he was only there on the Sunday and I couldn't go that day, I've had a couple of near misses with him at Anfield as well! Never mind. I'm sure you'll meet him one day. I wish one of these events would get John Barnes. Would love to meet him as he's in my signed photo that Rushie did for me. A dual signed would be great.
  22. Doesn't anyone remember what happened last time with Peter Weller?
