  4. ok so you lot like film. I do a film studies course at school and we have to come up with an ideas for a film. However we need to share it with people - so you lot are my guinea pigs! hope you like it. it has a synopsis, cinematic ideas and a screenplay of the penultimate sequence. This has to be in on monday lol. here goes... It is called Buddy and is about Che Guevara! Synopsis The film starts with a meeting of Cuban exiled revolutionaries led by Guevara in late 1955. He meets an old friend and we visit Che’s memory to when he graduated college. We see time move forward to Che’s revolutionaries’ attack on Fulgencio Batista. The friend reappears and a memory shows us how Che was sent to study medicine. We go back to real time to see that things are getting worse in his life. Che’s marriage is falling apart. Another visit and memory, but this time he is a young child with family problems. Forward in time, and we watch Che travelling around Africa to fight a rebellion in Congo, however bad news as the rebellion fails in August 1965. The friend appears again, and a memory of Che’s childhood, and we see when Che was born. We head forward again, however it is not Che. We see a group of revolutionaries lead by the “friend†plotting against Che. Instead of a flash back, this time there is a flash forward. We see Che being shot by the people who we have just seen plot against him, the friend standing watching. As Che dies we see a newspaper fly past with the date on (8th October 1967). We go back to real time and we see Che getting up in the morning. The film ends with a fade on the calendar date (7th October 1967). Cinematic Ideas My screenplay sequence is the penultimate scene in my film. The first shot is a long shot of the protagonist, showing the audience that it is about him. The next shot draws suspense for the audience as the protagonist is facing a large group of men walking towards him. The camera turns so that we can see the protagonist’s face, from over the shoulder of the group of men, the audience see the protagonist anxious, not knowing what to do, making the audience sympathise, although they already know that this was going to happen. My opening shot will be similar to the opening sequence of Frank Darabont’s the Shawshank Redemption, except that my shot will be of land whereas Darabont’s is of a prison. The music throughout the scene will build tension and be orchestral. Mid shots will be used throughout this sequence as well as some long shots, making the audience sometimes feel welcomed into the fight but others not, as though there is something they should not actually see. The scene will be filmed in a field. There will be six loud orchestral bangs as the protagonist is shot that are slowed down, to show full effect to the audience and give them time to let this sequence sink in. The camera will be a medium long shot of the protagonist as he is shot and will end with a newspaper flying past, with a lingering shot on the date at the top. Screenplay EXT. BOLIVIA, OTOBER 9TH 1967. DAY. Fade in. There is a very long shot of Che Guevara walking through a field, towards the camera. The audience hears the diegetic sound of the wind rushing through the trees. The positioning of the camera stays the same as Guevara walks closer to the front of the screen. As he comes forward to a mid shot the camera cuts to a medium long shot, as though looking through Guevara’s eyes at a large group of men walking towards him. As they get nearer, the camera dollies behind the men as they walk towards Guevara. Che recognises one of the men. It is Che’s childhood friend. Che goes to wave but sees the look on Félix Rodríguez‘s face, as the camera zooms in to see his face as though it is Che looking at him. Rodríguez looks serious. They are standing in the middle of a deserted field but none of them seem to realise this. They are too concerned with what is happening with each other. The two friends look at each other, trying to find out what is happening and why the other is there. At this point the camera is switching between the faces of the two men. After a close up on Rodríguez’s face, the camera pans to Guevara. CHE: What’s going on? FÉLIX: We’ve got some business here. The camera is from Guevara’s point of view, Rodríguez looks around as though trying to avoid Che’s eye contact. Guevara is watching as Rodríguez‘s eyes move. Che pauses before he speaks. The men around Rodríguez are whispering to each other and pointing at Guevara. Guevara looks as he sees one of the men pointing at him. CHE: (Confused) What kind of business? FÉLIX: Nothing that concerns you, unless you stand in our way. The audience witness Rodríguez stepping back away from Guevara through Rodríguez‘s eyes. The camera zooms out so the audience see a long shot of Guevara moving to a mid shot of him as Rodríguez steps away. We then move to an over the shoulder shot from the point of view of one of the men standing on the left side of Rodríguez. The man sidesteps nervously as though he knows what is going to happen and he is anticipating it. CHE: Well if it doesn’t concern me, you won’t mind if I leave. The camera stays where it is as Che stares at Félix Rodríguez for a few seconds and then the camera dollies to the group of men standing with Rodríguez, as Che’s gaze moves towards the man standing to the left of Rodríguez. Guevara turns and starts to move away from the men. The camera looks over his shoulder; so the audience can still see the group of men. The man steps forward quickly as he sees Guevara move away. The camera jumps to an over the shoulder shot of the man, so the audience can see Guevara. The man reaches out. Guevara stops him. MAN 1: (Roughly) You’d better stay where you are. The camera zooms in on Guevara’s face so that the audience see a close up of Guevara’s face as the man walks towards Che and goes to grab his arm again. Che shakes him off. The camera zooms out and pans so that there is a mid shot of two of the men standing next to each other glaring in Guevara’s direction as Che goes to walk off but the two men stand together in front of him not allowing him to move any further forward. The camera pans from the two men to Rodríguez and back again, as Che now steps backwards and looks at the men standing in front of him. CHE: Why won’t you tell me what is going on? The camera cuts to a close up of Rodríguez’s face as he looks as though he is willing to tell Guevara what is going on. He changes eye contact immediately when he realises Guevara is looking at him longingly to tell him what is going on. FÉLIX: All in good time my friend. The camera cuts to Guevara’s face, his expression drops and he looks angry. In the background Rodríguez’s men look happy as though their colleague is doing the right thing. They turn and snigger as the see Guevara’s facial expression. The non-diegetic music enters the scene and gradually crescendos throughout the laughter. It starts to diminuendo as Guevara gets ready to speak. CHE: (Angrily) FRIEND?! How dare you call me friend? The camera pans to an over-the-shoulder shot, with Guevara’s back towards the camera so that the audience are able to see the faces of the three rough looking men, as Rodríguez moves to stand next to two of his men. The camera zooms in to a head and shoulder shot of the man standing to the right of Rodríguez as he pulls out a gun. The camera dollies to Guevara’s face. He looks puzzled. The orchestral non-diegetic music the audience can hear is getting louder as to draw tension. It slows down as the rough man pulls the trigger. The audience hears six loud drum bangs as the shots are taken. Then, in slow motion, Che Guevara falls to the floor. The camera lingers on Che’s face as he lies on the floor and as a newspaper flies past the camera zooms in on the date and lingers there until the camera fades out. THANKS VERY MUCH!!! Jenni
