  1. This ^ is such a fangatastic idea, I'm amazed no one thought of it before! I'd love to see Fangtasia again on Saturday night. And Bezzo's suggestion - MaryAnn's Wedding Party - I love it!! what a fabulous idea!!! (Wouldn't go for a Fellowship of the Sun one, though, esp. on Sunday, because there's a real religious/bible group that I think still meets at the Park Inn on Sunday nights.)
  2. Oh, Debs, please don't be so disheartened. My partner-in-crime - TW fanfic writer Angstosaur - and I went to Hubs 1, 2, 3 and 5. I know we met you at one of those. Anyway, we're both going to be there this weekend. I'll be sure to look for you. :)
  3. It is peculiar they haven't announced the themes yet, so close to the con weekend. It's especially strange as you'd think they'd be keen to promote the themes. It's something they'd have to have settled on just to put together the parties, each of which would involve decorations, entertainment all sorts of other things, I'm sure. All that needs planning, I would think, well in advance, just as most people attending would want and need time to plan their outfits, if they're dressing to theme. They've put together such a great lineup of guests. Why no party themes yet? I dunno...are we to make it up ourselves? How about... Timeboys and Aliens? The Resurrection Ball - to commemorate all the original Torchwood members (plus memorable characters killed off in S1 and 2) gone by? Resurrection Gauntlets/Gloves optional... Torchwood Takes a Holiday...or Takes the Night Off...or Goes on a Massive Bender and Wakes Up in a Hotel Room Lying Next to Some Unidentifiable Alien Lifeform?...
  4. Thank You! I knew I'd read it somewhere! (Relieved to know I wasn't hallucinating , LOL)
  5. Thanks, hon, and thanks for replying so quickly (both times) !
  6. I noticed there are no children's tickets in the online shop for this one. Also, I could have sworn I'd read somewhere that this con would have an age minimum--which was, in all honesty, something we would have welcomed at Bitten. My partner and I don't have children and we do know about the *risque* talks, LOL, as we've been to Hubs 1,2 & 3. Actually, we find it a plus that guests can speak as freely as they like.
  7. Question for DavidB, etal at SM/ME only, please! : David, is there an age minimum for this particular con, due to the very adult nature of the show? (I would have emailed or PMed to ask privately about this, but the board won't allow me to do either!)
  8. Friendly Fires : Jump in the Pool Please
  9. Please, please pleeeeeeease play: Bad Things by Jace Everett (as many times as you possibly can, darlin' )
  10. Thanks for this, it's encouraging to hear from someone who's stayed there several times (and in a similar context).
  11. Cheers for doing that, Allieandra. Clarifies things immensely. Somehow I don't think we'll be doing much internet stuff now we know the costs!
  12. Something I've just learned that peeps may need to know: internet access is not necessarily free at the Hilton. For those staying in Executive class rooms, there's free internet access in the Executive Lounge. But otherwise, apparently, the average person will get charged £15 for internet access in your room. I only discovered this when I went to tripadvisor, a review site we use often to check out hotels. Several people mentioned the charge for internet. Here's a link to the first of many pages of reviews of the Metropole, and believe me, the reviews are all over the place (from very good to scathingly bad), so I really don't know what to expect once we get there: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserRevie...nd.html#REVIEWS I'm hoping things will not be as bad as some say. Still, I expect we'll spend most of our time out of rooms having a good time with friends!
  13. Thank you so much, absinthefairy88, that's absolutely brill! That'll be a huge help navigating the general layout of the place--something I've been worried about.
  14. That would be brill! Could you possibly post the link here, in this thread? (Or is that not allowed SM/ME?)
  15. BeatrixKiddo88, can I just say my partner and I saw you at the last Hub and thought you were absolutely brilliant. Couldn't get over how spot-on you'd gotten not only the gear, but DT's Doctor mannerisms, as well. Looking through this thread, I'm amazed by the lengths people go to, the details people incorporate to cosplay. So many of you here, we've seen at previous Hubs and always find it incredibly, I don't know, cool? Really looking forward to seeing the results of everyone's planning!
  16. sazzra, you're right, I did miss your main point--I certainly misunderstood! And for that, sorry! And no, I don't take what you've said as *having a go,* at me, hon.
  17. It was this post, in which I thought you were talking about all of us who are extremely unhappy about the cancellation. Now I think I understand what you were likely referring to. But at the time, your post seemed to refer to anyone who's complaining. So, sorry. For the record, my partner and I aren't asking for nor expecting any special treatment; we're not demanding a refund or recompense. We know that's not how things work. But, for the many reasons I mentioned, we're not happy and do feel we were led on, to an extent. No matter now. Now we are looking forward to seeing friends we have made in this fandom--some of them who are flying over from the US (they had originally signed up hoping to see/meet JB.)
  18. Bev, I really want to thank you for your post, which comes very close to some of what my partner and I have felt about this situation since the cancellation was announced. We were there, too, at Hub2, hearing and seeing all those things. My partner got up early and queued at 6:30 in the morning, in hopes not just of getting a ticket to Hub3, but a low-number gold ticket, so (as very short people) we would be able to see and hear JB better-- led on by that announcement the night before. And DavidB, I think what you just posted was an incredibly insensitive thing to say about those of us who are upset that JB's much-hyped-at-Hub2's appearance at Hub3 has been cancelled. I don't know why that should bother me any more than what other posters have been saying, as it seems anyone who is upset about this situation and is saying so, gets jumped on by everyone else, told off, etc., etc. No, I do know why--it's because you're a moderator here, someone in a position of *authority* so to speak. And I think it's just awful that you've basically slagged off everyone who has had the temerity to be upset about this and said so. And sazzra, to quote you: " the people who are only interested in him would still be asking for refunds and complaining because they still wouldn't like Torchwood and would still only attend anything that he's at." Not necessarily. We liked John in Torchwood--his role as Captain Jack (first in DW) was what introduced us to him. We were fans of Torchwood and as such felt that JB headlining a TW convention was the best thing ever and we were really looking forward to that, esp. as we do not have other opportunities to see him in any other context. We're not the kind of people who can afford to go to everything he's in everywhere. We were also looking forward to CoE. But that was before it aired, before they destroyed the show and characters we loved best and basically killed the Torchwood we knew and loved. That made JB's appearance all the more important at Hub3, and was also why a lot of us pleaded for SM to get Gareth. For an awful lot of us, this Hub was going to be, eseentially, a goodbye, because we knew that even if they brought TW back, it wasn't going to be even remotely the show we had loved. This is why so many of us are not *appeased* by the fact that the majority of guests are actually FROM CofE--the very thing that destroyed TW for many of us.
  19. Indeed, well said, Blackbird! I am thrilled and always remember his performance in Chariots of Fire (only one of the best movies ever made) every time I see him in anything else. Very much looking forward to seeing/meeting him and we are, indeed, very lucky to get him as a guest!

    Scheduling...

Oh TooTall, Mark and Jason, I do not envy you. Especially because of this: The clocks go back by one hour at 1am on Sunday 25th October 2009. Yup the weekend of Hub3 is also the weekend we in the UK *fall back* during the overnight of Saturday/Sunday. That means an extra hour. But it's bound to wreak some havoc with scheduling and gettting eveyone's clocks and watches synch'ed Sunday morning so people are where they're meant to be when they're meant to be!!! Good luck!!!
  21. Now this addition to the lineup brings a smile to my face, and that has absolutely nothing to do with CofE (which I loathed!) It's something else he's been in, that I always think of whenever I see him in anything. I am so looking forward to meeting him and getting him to sign my dvd of it.
  22. You mean there's no naked party? Not unless that's one of the yet-to-be-announced-themes. Which it might be...you never know... I mean those themes could be ANYthing at this point: Naked Bonfire Dance of the Weasels GumSmacking Chipmunks From Mars HoundDogs in Lace CatWeevils Disco and Gambling Pit I-Am-Spartacus Night Ianto's Pony Round-up...hmmmmm...
  23. That's it. I can't wait for the announcement any longer. I've decided I'm going to wear...clothes.
  24. Thanks, Julie, very helpful post! And thanks, ME/Mark, for reassuring us that there'll be a budget food room--also good to know!
