  1. One a year is enough for me too, what with the other events I go to... though toying with a Vasquez costume for next year- will need to convert my Thompson, and get my butt in the gym if I decide to do that. I can still cosplay Captain Jack though, as I came quite rightly second to Mando- well done mate, that costume was awesome!!
  2. Me and Dave with a lassie we met at the last Chevron, she liked our uniforms lol
  3. cool, a 10th doctor! Looks like my captain jack stuff will indeed be done, so will have to look out for you if I end up using it. We're not entering the comp either, we just like having a laugh wandering about dressed up- plus never seen the comp before, so would rather watch this time and maybe enter next time if I feel brave enough. We'll be in Stargate Atlantis gear on at least one of the days, the other hasn't fully been decided :) Good luck with your costume Boltrig! A week to go doesn't give you much time!
  4. LMAO at that song.. sounds like a bad karaoke version! Maybe that's why they only released it in Japan?
  5. I'm sure it will, your costumes look pretty much excellent :)
  6. 1) Kai Owen 2) Firefly, but would love to meet some other torchwood or buffy/angel guests! 3) Certainly going to the party, as we've got rooms at the travellodge for saturday night
  7. 1) Yep, should be there! 2) I guess it's about 90 miles, we're coming up from the Borders. 3) 5 since Kai was announced, and looking forward to meeting Amber too
  8. So is there actually a theme, or is it turn up in whatever you like?
  9. Cheers- will probably be using that one through the day. Jack Harkness stuff is coming along nicely too
  10. This is my first completed costume for the weekend, I'm the one on the right. The shirt is actually black, just seems to photograph a funny colour. No idea why!
  11. Pretty sure that was Paul McGillion, not McGann :)
  12. Outstanding guest- cheers! Really looking forward to meeting him, haven't met any of the Torchwood folk so far!
  13. Ah, maybe I should have said that I was a newbie as far as the hub events are concerned, rather than to conventions in general. I've been to a couple of massive events (Chevrons) already, and actually work with another organiser on events in my spare time, so I do know how these things tend to work and that sadly guests sometimes simply can't be there :) Thanks for the response, though. I think we'll wait a few weeks, anyway. Hopefully some information will have surfaced by then. We would certainly enjoy meeting the other guests, and hanging out with other fans- but in all honesty it's JB that drew us to this one, so until something a little more solid than "hoping to attend" materialises, I think we'll hang fire. Hope everyone has a great time though
  14. Hiya newbie here, I just heard the news about JB being in that musical. Tellingly there's no mention at all of the Hub 3 on JB's offical website- not that I could find, anyway. My friend and I were about to get tickets for this, but I think we're gonna wait and see what happens now- at least until there's some sort of official announcement, anyway. Guest stars are great, but as neither of us were at Hub 1 or 2 so haven't met anyone from the show we're thinking about going to this for main cast, really. We've made a reservation at the hotel, but not going to pay for tickets until we know for sure whether or not Johns going to attend. Before anyone starts on me, I quite aware that work commitments come first when it comes to these things, hence why we're going to wait. I was so excited when i stumbled over this con, too... oh well, never mind, we'll have fun at collectormania Glasgow, anyway :)
  15. Good idea, they had some pretty cool costumes on there
  16. Well as it now looks like my Captain Jack costume will be done by then, I'm REALLY hoping for John Barrowman!
  17. I started building something else when I didn't know what was going on with the cosplay guidelines, as I didn't want to end up with only a costume I couldn't really use. So, if all goes to plan looks like I'll have a Jack Harkness costume ready to rock and roll by then! Got most of it, just modifying the coat as the sleeves were mahooosively long- I had to find a "tall" to get the right length, and funnily enough it seems that people who are 6' and over have much longer arms than little 5'6" me. Got a real bargain though- managed to find the correct Crombie officer's coat- I love ebay at times! Also need to build an earpeice, planning on it having a working blue led at the tip, too... should be cool if I can manage it. Only thing that's concerning me slightly is that I'll be absolutely boiling.. maybe use the coat in the evening more, and stick with the Atlantis kit through the day... But what to use if I decide to enter the cosplay comp?? Decisions, decisions.... This will also interest you Scape- it'll be going into service as an airsoft loadout come winter, teamed up with a Tanaka S&W M10 revolver and a G36K as seen in the Torchwood hub's armoury- wanted something WW2-ish, and this keeps both my sci-fi nerd and airsoft nerd happy! (And yes I know that he's a guy and I'm a girl... but I figure if my 6'4" beardy mate Dave can turn up to a party dressed as Britney Spears, I can get away with this, lol)
  18. Just wondering if we're ever going to get a definitive answer to this? Been waiting nearly two weeks, think I've been quite patient....
  19. To be honest, we weren't worried about the comp. Being as everything has been bought from various places we wouldn't really be eligable, anyhow. If weapon safety is the issue, why not attach a tamper proof seal over the battery compartment? They're cheap, and this could be done at the desk when we check in. Example- http://www.platinum-place.co.uk/TCAL6%20Ta...ee%20Labels.htm Person on the desk checks it isn't powered, puts on a label, and if anyone attempts to put a battery in, the label would be destroyed. That would allow people to have things that can't be peace bonded, like P90s. And yes, I'm a registered skirmisher :) Thanks for the replies!
  20. I have just noticed that the weapons guidelines appear to have changed extensively. As my friend and I were planning on cosplaying two Stargate Atlantis characters, our weapons are rather integral to the costume. It isn't stated clearly and concisely, but are we to take the new guidelines to mean that any realistic replica weapons are now banned? It was the case that plastic airsoft replicas were permitted, so long as they were checked and proved to be unpowered/gassed and unloaded. I would have thought that as the items were then restricted to within the arena itself, they were okay. Obviously I won't be defacing my perfectly legally owned airsoft rifle with horrible bright paint, so are our costumes now a no go? Being as we have already spent a lot of money on them, we need to know this pretty quickly so that we can try and do something else, if we decide to put the effort in a second time, that is. Hoping for a swift response. Cheers, Terri.
  21. John Barrowman would be awesome, and definately Paul McGillion- especially as they were both born in Scotland
  22. Me and my mate will be turning up in black atlantis loadouts, one with a G36K, and the other with a P90... has to be done being as robert picardo will be there! Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is turing up in... and scapey, yes, got the time off
  23. Well you've got my vote, Scape- me and Dave will defo be there if you're doing a set! What bands / songs would you like the DJ to play? Into rock, generally, but the convention type songs can be highly amusing (Dr Who, Star Trekkin' and whatnot). Would you take part in a costume contest? Yep, I need no provocation whatsoever to get the fancy dress thing going on, parties are way more fun if folk are in fancy dress, they loosen up quicker! Would you take part in a Rock Band contest? aye, but I'd be absolutely garbage at it, lol Would you like a live band? Not particularly, if I want live music I go to concerts- If a live band is playing you feel obliged to pay attention to them, instead of blethering with your mates. DJ makes a better party atmosphere.
