I have met the guy and spent about half an hour with him and he is a REALLY nice guy! So dont take other peoples words for it, wait till you meet him in person, then comment. I do think that Shatner is quite deaf though, and I think he can't often understand what people say to him when he is signing, which may account for why people think he is rude. The only sale point SM would have, and thats if it is still there, there is a stall/cart somewhere in the shopping centre that sells hair pieces!!!
