  1. Think May's Chevron is the most expensive event I've heard of this year? so don't understand this point. My post says Other con companies, ie non ME/SM events we aren't allowed to mention. (that are charging £60 for a photo op and £25 I think for autos )
  2. Thanks for the update, I have massive respect to ME/SM for not bowing to the pressure of the extortionate fees! I dont think it particularly helps matters when other con companies in the UK will and do pay these prices (which are passed on to the fans), as this sets a trend for the norm, etc etc Although to be fair I wasn't expecting ME/SM to get Jared or Jensen, I would have been more than happy with 2 or 3 smaller SPN guests (as I don't watch the other 2 shows). Maybe it's just me, but I feel that the UK fans don't have the unlimited expendable income that the fans in say Italy or the US appear to have, thinking nothing of shelling out what I once tallied up to be more than triple the cost of Roadhouse and sometimes I think maybe the guests & agents forget that, we are after all a mere tiny island the size of Louisiana (ish) and that people can't just hop in a car from a few countries over :) Anyways, seeing as you're not planning any SPN/VD cons any time soon,... What about that Crime Drama Niche market?
  3. I'm hoping they admit defeat and postpone it ASAP. Can't realistically see how I can afford a ticket, train ticket, hotel & photo ops etc with less than 8 weeks to go. There's a recession on...
  4. I read just now that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was announced for a con and got all excited, rushed over here and.... *sigh*
  5. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed, but it would take a BIG spn guest to do it for me now... Whilst I had the forethought to book the time off work well in advance, I haven't managed to save a lot for it (esp as we've just booked our wedding), and just checking the train prices are already a bit daft (If i arrive saturday morning and return on sunday afternoon its £50, if I arrive friday afternoon and return sunday afternoon - they have no singles for sunday so I would have to pay £61 one way!!, and miss the closing ceremony etc), not to mention everything else *sigh*
  6. For some odd reason I've started getting emails from Park Inns, even though i've never booked with them... however they have winter sale and it looks like for the singletons it could be better than con rate: Just checked for con weekend and there is a single room for 48.75 GBP per night if paid in advance or 52.00 GBP payable on the weekend http://www.parkinn.com/winter-sale
  7. So do DVD's normally get released or is this thread just wishful thinking?
  8. Yeah I've seen it... are we allowed to discuss spoilers in here?
  9. Roughly how many guests would you aim to get for a multi show con like this (providing that ticket sales went well?)
  10. I think the stage height was ok, but only because the talks were very uncrowded - also because we sat at the back, it was possible to stand up for photos because we weren't blocking people behind us... I'm sure if it was a much busier con, it wouldn't have been as easy to see everything on stage - although the screens were great, there were times when the screens were zoomed right in on the guests face's whilst they were gesticulating, so if you were only watching the screens you would've missed some great comedy moments. I felt that we had plenty of time to do everything and never queued more than 10 mins for either an autograph or photo... in fact at one point I thought I had turned up too late for a photoshoot only to realise that the queue was just inside the door - although the guy with the long dark hair was very good in giving us times to come back and join the queues for the other guests :~) my step daughter was a little disappointed that on Sunday afternoon one of the dealers (the ones with the comics & tshirts) seemed to have packed up as she had money left over... I suppose the only 'complaints' I have are with the hilton/birmingham tbh, they didn't tell us when we checked in that breakfast was included or the times or where it was! I cleared my credit card to pay for the room & meals, only to find that it wouldn't work in the wetherspoons or hilton bar because they swipe rather than chip n pin also even with 20% off, the drinks in the party bars were V. pricy esp as they didn't do pints and did coke in bottles.. (£6 for a vodka & coke after discount is still extortionate, esp when it's just generic smirnoff... now I see why people take/buy liquor for their rooms!) I totally didn't get how the bids for the guest encounters worked either... but that's my fault rather than ME. Overall it was my first con and set a really high standard, it exceeded all expectations... It was great seeing the guests take part/join in with so much stuff (quiz was hilarious, big ups to the girl who did the Sam impression against Mark!), and at the parties... we also saw them chilling in the bar area a few times, although after one particular attendee mithered them they left within 5 mins each time! Last thing, on the Sunday afternoon they played an ep of SPN between talks, one of which finished at quarter past the hour... at half past someone came over the mike so say they would play another 20 mins of an ep, then retracted because there 'wasn't time' then the guests didn't come on stage until the hour... meaning that we sat around for 45 mins doing nothing - during which time a whole ep of SPN could've been played after all!! Just wanted to say thanks to Showmasters/Massive Events for a great weekend, it's taken 5 days to get over the con blues, but it was soo worth it. I've already put my holidays in for RH2!
